Rebel medic Ciara Fanning has called the badlands home for more than a decade. Raised in the Alliance, she spent the first half of her life defined by what she wasn’t—fertile, valued, deserving of her family’s love. Now, she lives beyond the Alliance’s reach and defines her worth by the lives she’s saved and the people she’s healed.
Alliance Elites Dr. Vance Sterling and Dane Foster live for the joys of raising their daughter, Annie. It’s been more than two years since they buried Annie’s mother, but neither man has been ready to move on… until they meet a redheaded rebel with no place to stay and a heart as battered as their own.
Dane and Vance have dedicated their lives to defending the Alliance way of life while Ciara has dedicated hers to helping those who live outside Alliance lands. Can they heal old wounds and forge a new life together, or will the dark ghosts of the past steal their future before it’s even begun?
Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

This has been one of my very favorite series. I've had the pleasure of reading Ms Hayes books before and this one, once again reaffirms why I've loved this series and her books.
I'm a believer in fate, one can take the long way around but eventually fate will pull you back around. Ciara should have a a cushy life, but it just didn't happen that way. The life she had she made the best of it, out in the badlands as a medic doing what she wanted; taking care of people.
Vance and Dane lost their chosen tragically but are lucky in life to have a adorable daughter. They to have had fate touch them, both are Elite and enhanced. Besides the alliance their total focus has been on their little girl they share.
A bit of this, some of that added to fate touched. Bringing it all in meeting new people, making a new life. Seeing old friends. A chance at a fresh start, at love and having a place that you belong. Loved the characters and the storyline some really aw moments I even think I had to wipe my eyes a time or two. Pretty delicious scenes and an a bit of a life lesson.
As always appearance from other characters we've met previously. Great story! loved it and recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book in the 3013 series. As always, author Susan Hayes wrote a great story with enjoyable characters. The two male characters were widowers, both Alliance officers. The heroine is a rebel medic from the badlands. When a natural disaster brings an injured Ciara into their lives, things definitely change for them all. Ciara learns to be a bonded and a mother, even though she isn't a scroll. Loved this sweet story!
been a rebel medic is hard work especially when you don't have supplies but when an earthquake strikes and she and two children are all that is left she has to save them and so she takes a battered truck to get them to safety but she is injured herself and is close to death when she is found by Dr vance can he and his second convince her that she is for them and become the mother she always wanted to be with there daughter who obviously adores her as much as they do
Incredibly sensitive and heartwarming story by Susan Hayes
The 3013 Series is such a wonderful combination of talented Authors that have jointly immersed their own levels of creative and thought-provoking storylines making this series a joy to read. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE SERIES IN YOUR OWN PERSONAL LIBRARY FOR YOU TO ENJOY IT!!
The next great bein the 3013 series! I didn't think the books could get any better but I was so wrong! The books keep getting better and better! Keep up the great work ladies, can't wait for the next one! Linda Bonanno
Action from the 1st chapter. Great story and characters. Nice change of series about an infertile. Reading this book felt like embracing an old friend.
This was one of the best storylines in the series. Although the heroine took her time getting over what she thought were deficiencies she was very strong and determined to make a difference in the world. The two elite Alliance males, Vance and Dane , had great personalities and their witty banter made this story even more enjoyable. In the end the story was one of optimism, healing and love.
Ciara is heading to the Alliance medical facilities with the two boys she pulled out of the earthquake wreckage all while nursing broken ribs, a punctured king and lots of other damage. Dr. Sterling was headed her way in a mobile medical shuttle and saved Ciara and the boys.
I am enjoying this series and I'm glad not all the female main characters are restored to fertility. we are more than our wombs and motherhood is more than biology. otherwise a uterine replicator plus sex bot would put all of us off the table.
It brings back characters from another story which I loved. The plot is eloquent and it has closure. I enjoyed the whole reading. It was funny and fluid. In all, I enjoyed for the kind of story it is.
I love the entire series, know it by heart. This is a nice, warm story, well written and pleasant. But who on earth was paid for editing?! Susan, demand a refund. Sentences are split between paragraphs, terrible blunder.
The last book I read in the series was 3013 Chaos and it was soo fun and exciting, there was tension and drama and romance and possessive alpha males you you wanted to hug and kiss on minute and smack upside the head the next, but it was a fun and interesting story.... This.... This was not.... This was almost the exact opposite of that in every way!!! Boring,no chemistry and very little story,no sex than anything.... Woman ,self trained medic fighting to save lives in barren waste land rushes civilization to help save herself and to young boys after an earthquake almost kills them... Sounds exciting right ? Well sorta but if it is that's the highlight... Med meets them on route and takes them in no on is seriously injured, Dr. likes her and soon after his partner and their daughter meet her the like her too... Thus starts the fairly quick ( just felt slow) courtship of Dr. Vance and Dane to woo Ciara ... Most all their drama is pass tense, they all had really sucky families and childhoods for the most part,Ciara gets attacked by a jerk from her past ( but it barely starts before it's over ) and of course the loss of their 1st chosen for n what was basically a car accident... The characters lacked depth to me,no real chemistry, felt very 1 dimensional, flat and boring... Like it was just a story to keep the series moving along, ironically one of the few stories I haven't read is the one with Ciara's friend Alyana in it Coz I've dreaded a story where the h is "claimed" without her permission but honestly I didn't feel like I'd missed anything bu not reading it.... I look forward to more books in the series and I'm only keeping this one soo I can have a complete set.. Though at the moment I'm not sure why :(
I have always really liked Susan Hays' additions to the 3013 series (Laurie Roma is a freaking nightmare - I truly feel bad for the people that started with her book and never read anymore of the series because Susan Hays is on a totally different level) but this book fell a little short for me. Some things irritated me more than they should have. For example there is a 2 year old in this book that says the most unrealistic things to make the book 'funny'. If you actually have spent time with 2 year olds you will see what I am talking about - I'm sorry 2 year olds can be absolutely hilarious but not like this author tried to do it. I liked the heros' - they were pretty standard. The heroine was at times annoying but not too bad. Things she would say would sometimes conflict with the personality that the author has already shown you. For example, she is very strong, independent, capable, secure woman who will suddenly say something that is super super insecure. There also wasn't much of a plot I felt. I'm used to there being some secret or villain of some sort and there wasn't anything like that.
I wouldn't recommend this book but I will probably try the next one she writes.
The series "3013" is a variety of stories that are written by several different author's, with the primary author being Susan Hayes. This story is about a young, relatively untrained woman, Ciara, . serving a medic in the bad lands of a planet. An earthquake takes down a small town in the bad lands. While most of the citizens are on a trip to sell their farm products to other small towns, Ciara is alone at the time of the quake. She manages to save two boys and herself and makes it to safety. And then the fun begins with true love and danger for Ciara and those who love her. Try it, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Ciara is a non-fertile woman who was thrown away by her family. She is a medic in the Badlands until an earthquake destroys her clinic and the town. She ends up in Fort Forsaken being taken care of by an elite doctor Vance. Ciara is a friend of Alyana from a previous book. Dane and Vance an elite pair with a young daughter lost their chosen. The romance is poignant and well written. Love this series.
I enjoyed this book and was happy to finally get Vance and Dane's story. My only complaint is that there were multiple editing problems. Many times I found either missing words or extra words that did not make sense. If not for this problem, this was a five star book.
I do love all the characters in these books, and it's nice to see them all come about. There has been a few continuity problems in the last couple of books, but they're still good. They're full of story and no extra filler. I could easily enjoy some extra story in each, but they still give us enough to fill out the worlds and just be 'point, point, point, done'.
This is book 10 in one of my favorite series. Ciara is a medic that is trying to save two boys after an huge earthquake takes out the town she was living in. She then meets a doctor and his friend and things just took off from there. I loved the addition to the series. I just wish Ciara, Dane and Vance could have adopted another kid. That would have been sweet.
So far, I think this romance is my favorite in the series! Ciara was feisty and nurturing, Dane was laid back and humorous, and Vance was the reasonable one. The emotional connection between Ciara, Dane, and Vance was established early on-sweet, steamy and patient-also creating a solid foundation for their physical relationship..which was very hot! Very enjoyable read and would recommend.
Ciara Vance and Danes story was nicely written but I will have to say there wasn't much action. The plot was kind of bland. It was more of a beach read love story
Excellent continuation of the 3013 series. I absolutely love this series and look forward to the next instalment. If you enjoy reading sci-fi romance with a twist then you will love this series.
A slower feel to this book with Vance, Dane and Ciara. Set in the same backdrop as Alayna's story, the action was peripheral really, which just left a pleasantly hot love story between the three. Good read, though perhaps not as good as some of the others.
