Jeez, how I LOVED this book! I have been waiting for what felt like forever for the sequel to Finding Our Way. Just to recap, Devon has had a thing for her older brother Nate's best friend Bryce. They once shared a passionate kiss, but Bryce felt that Devon was too young and needed to grow up a bit. So he backed off and played the field while he was away for officer training for the Navy. He and Nate have always wanted to serve and the Navy is both of their choices. But while he was there, one of his casual girls-Holli got pregnant and he was beside himself. He wanted to be a good dad, but he was in love with Devon not Holli. The scheming wench made sure Devon found out about her pregnancy and implied that the two were now engaged. Devon took off and had no real contact with Bryce for the next year and a half. Holli lost the baby, Bryce continued to take care of her out of guilt and things were a big cluster mess for a while. When Bryce finally got his head out of his butt, he had to work damn hard to get Devon to listen to him, but at the end of Finding Our Way they were finally a couple and got engaged.
Devon is studying to be a photo journalist and she and her best friend Quinn are given a great opportunity to travel to Israel with a group of her peers. No way is Bryce going to let her go there out of concern for her safety. Imagine her surprise when the venue is changed to Rio (Bryce is one determined guy!) She and Bryce will be apart for months, but this is how their life will be once Bryce is deployed.
There are a lot more opportunities coming Devon's way. She is getting national exposure for her work and major networks are showing interest. In the meantime, Bryce is going to Norfolk where he will be stationed. Devon has met a few of his friends that will be stationed with him. One of them, Liza, gives off bad vibes. (Girl, listen to those vibes!) This chick definitely wants her man and doesn't mind who knows it. Bryce doesn't take it seriously. He is so crazy about Devon, having lost her once; he won't let anything come between them. Liza is so nuts she makes Holli from Finding Our Way look sane.
"She was staring at you." He shrugs, avoiding my eyes. "Bryce, I recognize the look on her face. She's interested in you."
"Too bad for her, I'm fully taken."
Well let me tell you, there is so much crazy in this book. One particular ride on the crazy train will have you reaching for the Tums, or vodka. Dear lord, I had to put down the Kindle and walk away. I was so sick to my stomach with nerves. I had tears rolling down my face for Devon; I hated Bryce in that moment and believe me, I wanted to cut a certain bitch.
"I knew this would be a process. It's not like he could break up with her easily with Nate being his best friend. I'm a patient person, but after last night and this morning, even he can't deny anymore..."
I am an angst slut and love nothing more than to have my emotions bounce all over the place. I loved this book and it had me up one moment and then so upset and then so pissed. (Bryce needs to be more careful about who he thinks his so called friends are).
"How can someone who means nothing almost destroy my everything?"
The women in this book sure do know how to break the girl code. Thank god for Quinn. Everyone needs a friend like her!
If you are looking for a book that is chock full of flavor and conflict and passion, this is one for you. Read it, devour it, and love it!
"I think I know how much you love me."
"Yes, you know how much I love you, but do you know how much I love us?"
