Some of the best true crime writers have contributed stories to the 2016 True Crime Anthology and made it a book for your "keeper" shelf. True crime buffs will recognize some of the featured serial killers, but the writing and details provided make the stories feel fresh.
A few of these brutal murderers were unfamiliar, so I added them to the running list of devils I keep in my head. They are known and remembered for all the wrong reasons and serve only as cautionary tales of the type of people to avoid.
Anthologies by necessity include short stories, and all of these are interesting and informative. I think you'll enjoy reading this book.
I love these anthology books because I usually read about serial killer that I am not familiar with. That is the case with this book as I had not read about most of these killers before. This was a great group of authors that did an excellent job researching and presenting the stories. This is a very well written book and I highly recommend it to any true crime fan.
Some of the chapters were very detailed and I learned of killers I've never heard of. Tons of facts. I like that it wasn't just the "usuals": Bundy, Kemper, etc.
Good things - new angles on stories I know inside out (such as the Myra Hindley) - some killers that are rarely covered in popular true crime books - some images of the killers/crime scenes (though I would have liked more)
Bad Things - for the most part it was poorly written. I completely skipped the chapter about the Canadian killer. So muddled and poor. - chapters that had no direction in some cases or could have been organised much better - very amateurish - most of their sources are from sites they have googled (I WILL NOT TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY IF YOU USE WIKIPEDIA AS A FLIPPING SOURCE OF INFORMATION REPEATEDLY)
With authors like Peter Vronsky, Silvia Perrini, Michael Newton, RJ Parker & JJ Slate you really can't go wrong with this collection of stories about serial killers! All of the stories were well written and informative without getting bogged down with courtroom details. I'm hoping they do another for 2017!!
I hate serial killers but I've been in a true crime wanting-to-read funk so I picked this up. It wasn't as terrible as the other two. And, hey, I'm still up to date with my reading goal this year. 13 days in. LMAO.
A good look into the mind of the disturbed. Interesting to read about their motives as well as how they are able to lie to those around them and keep them from discovering the truth for so long.
It took me a long time to finish this. It's an ok book if you like serial killer books. There's some good, albeit sad, information. Every time I read something like this it amazes me anew how cruel people can be to each other. I'll never understand it...and I don't think I really want to.
I enjoyed the book and thought each story was thrilling and intriguing!!! Each story was interesting to know. Didn't have any idea these stories existed and will leave an impression on me!!!
