The Second Great Depression is upon Pat and Martin Bloomfield; they have worked hard to put food on the table and help their neighbors. It isn’t just the financial problems but also the rules and regulations against medical help or medicines for the common man. Slowly they have lost all communication with the outside world. No way to email, call or even write their children or anyone else. They both wake one morning having had strange dreams and hearing a quiet voice telling them they are to prepare to be a refuge. The veil between the seen and unseen world is ever thinner. Get ready.
Pat and Martin live in northern Idaho on a small plot of land. They have raised six children who have all moved away and Martin is set to retire in several years. The Second Great Depression is looming and Pat and Martin see the decline in the economy and the problems arising that have been reported by the news. Not only that, but Pat and Martin have had vivid dreams of destruction and the need to prepare their home and land to welcome refugees. Good thing they have been storing and packing things away for years already.
Pat and Martin are the main characters but several families join them and are lead to them by inspiration and the guiding of elderly relatives. A wonderful story of people banding together to survive and live without modern conveniences. I love the recipes scattered throughout the book.
