Seventeen-year-old Ellicia knows this. Witnessing a girl being drained from the neck and seeing other things that she can't explain away lead her to believe so. Ellicia used to think that her life ended the very moment her dad died in front of her. However, a year after his death, she begins to consider the fact that she might have gotten it wrong the first time. Her life didn't end.
In fact, it's only just beginning.
In a world where things like vampires, ghosts, and werewolves are nothing but mere creatures of fiction, Alleyhill definitely stands out.
If you like vampires, werewolves and witches, you'll probably like this book. The story is well-written and easy to follow. The characters are very well-developed with plenty of conversation and interaction. Some episodes of violence sneak up on you. This unpredictability adds to the suspense and mystery. The ending sets up the sequel quite well.
The becoming of ELLICIA Wayfield by Kemdi ik. ANGELS & DEMONS = FICTIONAL. RIGHT? Ellicia Wayfield doesn't believe in the supernatural world, despite what she witnessed a year ago, especially now that she's dealing with a lot: the loss of a family member, her upcoming seventeenth birthday, settling down in a new town and being the new kid at her school. Besides, not everything has to be a supernatural mystery. Right? Often, odd occurrences can easily be explained away. For example, that weird student in one of Ellicia's classes drinks blood, not because he's a vampire, but because he's part of some sort of satanic cult (or because Ellicia was drugged up on hallucinogens and ended up seeing things that weren't real). There's definitely no other explanation for that…. While some things can be explained away, others just can't. They are what they are, just like this new reality Ellicia finds herself in. Then there's also that word, destiny, which can sometimes be a burden. Just ask Ellicia. A very good read. 4*.
