E.H. Demeter was born in Oregon City, Oregon, though she now makes her home in South Carolina, with her husband and two children, where she can be found to hate the heat and love the rain.

The written word has been a draw since her early years, and she is seldom found without a notebook in hand. Writing is her passion, and her goal is to share her words, thoughts, and opinions with the world. She is a lover of books, hot tea, and sweets – much to the dismay of her waistline.

She grew up reading fantasy and romance novels, and finds that is where most of her inspiration lies, though her love of the young adult genre has also sparked creative fires.

She currently has four publications available. She can be found on social media ( Links provided on the stay connected page), and encourages readers to reach out to her.

Nightmares in Writers Retreat contained such a variety of stories that you never knew what you were going to get from story to story. Each story kept you on your toes and craving just a little bit more. Whether it kept you wanting more from that story, or just another amazing story in general. And each story in this anthology definitely left you with chills in one way or another. Stories ranged from vampire cats to haunted houses and to specters that turned children into murders. Whatever thrill you're looking for you can find it within this collection.

I'd say my two favorite stories in this collection are The Counting Game by Alizabeth Lynn and Private Property by James Salsido. The Counting Game just left me with a lot of unanswered questions as I read it and had the right amount of, "What the heck is going on here?" Not to mention it didn't end at all like I expected it to, which floored me completely, and played with my emotions way to much. Going from spooked to sad to confused all in one story, it was one awesome journey. As for Private Property, this story was a paranormal investigation, and I want give too much away on the story, but it was done with so much knowledge on paranormal investigations that I felt like I was actually watching a paranormal show, rather than reading a story.

All of the authors featured in this anthology are brilliant writers and I look forward to more collections from Writers Retreat as well as standalone pieces from the authors within this novel, including the children that had stories featured in the end (which was the greatest and I thought it was really cool to see works written by children at the end of this collection.)

Speaking as one of the authors included in this book (disclaimer!), I wanted to love the stories in here. And I come away from it feeling like I did love a couple of them, but maybe not as many as I would have hoped. Maybe I'm just becoming more acclimated to creepy and scary things (that might be a good thing?) but I didn't find that one that made me sleep with the light on for fear of the monster that might come after me in the darkness. Granted, that's not a terrible thing either.
But I will say that those stories I loved (or even just liked a lot) have lingered with me and given me new authors to check out other works of - that's always a strong plus in my mind!

This book was just the right mix of creepy and enjoyable. I admit, I picked it up solely because of one author, but when I was finished, I had a lot more added to my list to read further work from, and I'm very excited to get started on that!
I especially loved seeing the pieces by the younger authors - they all have such talent, and I hope they all continue to write and share their work with the world. Even from a young age, many of them have made me a fan of them!
