'You asked for it, angel...'

Scott Davidson was a good man once upon a time, but that man is gone. The only thing that holds him together these days is revenge.

During his hunt for the psychotic vampire that tore his world apart, Scott comes across a beautiful half-demon marked for death. He agrees to protect Des, but he'll never agree to let her into his heart. His bed, though, just might be another story...

Desdemona Baptiste is a succubus who thought she understood the in's and out's of lust. Until he dances into her life. She's pulled to Scott in ways that frighten her, ways that make her think there is more to this than lust.

Fate couldn't be so cruel... or maybe it could.

The third book in the Phoenix Inc. series, PHOENIX BROKEN is set in a world about to fracture apart. A world where monsters are real and the things that lurk in your nightmares aren't content to stay there.

This book contains explicit sensuality, violence and some language. Some disturbing scenes could contain triggers. Not suitable for those under 18.

Heather R. Blair wrote her first book in the first grade and hasn't stopped since. Back then it was all about horses, now it's pretty much the dark, sexy and shivery.

She lives in the frozen north of Minnesota, near that big gorgeous lake called Superior and enjoys hiking when the snow melts. She also does murals, rides herd on four monsters(otherwise known as children), is slightly obsessed with Martin Freeman, British television and things that go bump in the night.

She loves reading,(duh!)and interacting with other bibliophiles and authors. Feel free to bug her at will and sign up for her newsletter to get shiny new promos, free stuff and MORE!

November is a great month for me, because most of my favorite indies released new titles and that of course includes Ms Blair with Phoenix Broken, the latest installment of Phoenix, Inc. series.

This book was a total emotional roller coaster ride; heart-wrenching, at the same time exhilarating. There is no doubt, no doubt at all that Heather R. Blair is an amazing writer---her writing style, her electrifying plots, her unforgettable characters, and everything else that goes along with it.

We all know Scott Davidson from the previous books in the series, the doting husband of the alluring Jules Gentry's best friend, Fannie. We have seen how much he loved Fannie and the twins. We also know of the tragic event that occurred in Phoenix Fallen that changed him like day to night. He has now one purpose: Revenge. So, when he got the chance to find the man who murdered his wife, he jumped at it... but things didn't exactly go according to plan. He instead met a seductress that drew his interest. She is Desdemona Baptiste, and she was stirred the second she caught sight of this big, blond man. She sensed in him a darkness and as half-succubus/half-human, stole a clandestine moment with him, to relieve him of it, to comfort.

I thought I was in love with Miles and Jules, the heroes of the previous books in the series but nothing compared to what I felt for Scott reading this book. It turns out that he is more than we first assumed, and frankly I wasn't surprised. Indeed, I'm delighted with this revelation. I'm not telling more, so you'll have to read the series to find out what I mean. ;)

I definitely loved Des too. She considers herself neither demon nor human. She is her own being. She is strong, willful and confident, but at the same time she can also be vulnerable. I really enjoyed getting to know her.

All in all, it was a great book, full of twists and turns that are definitely thrilling. And for the last 15% of the book, I was breathless by the time I reached the end. What a ride this book was!

Oh, and I also forgot to mention the sex scenes? Gosh, they were hot hot hot and yummy! ;)

The best thing about this book is... this is just the beginning. I can't wait to read what's going to happen next!

Okay, I'm not even sure how to review this book. I loved it. I cried, I laughed, and I cheered. Scott broke my heart in Phoenix Fallen. His pain and rage made me want to hug him until he felt better. I loved the glimpses of who he used to be, before his world had shattered. This story is about a man who'd lost the most important person in the world to him and whether or not he'd recover from it.

There is so much that happened in this book and yet I wanted more. The demons and bits of their society; the paras and their talents; the shades and the different factions. Action, violence, hot scenes, and wheew!

This book left me breathless and worrying for what is to come. War between the races is imminent and holy crap, I can't wait to read the next book!

I was given a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are mine.

This book is my new favorite by Heather R. Blair! While I enjoyed Scott as a character in the other Phoenix books, I never really paid much attention to him. Boy did this book change my mind:)
At the end of Phoenix Fallen we see Scott go through a traumatic event, losing his wife, the mother of his children and love of his life. Now, with nothing but vengeance in his heart, Scott has changed from the loving, carefree man that he was into a hardened man with a single purpose. Revenge.
Blinded by the murder of his wife he has drawn into himself, refusing to move on. When a chance encounter with a half-demon, Des, rocks Scott to his core he starts to doubt how he's been living his life.
I applaud Ms. Blair for how she was able to write this book. It's not easy for a reader to accept the death of the hero's wife and then watch him try to move on. But it works perfectly in this story. There are such touching and heartbreaking moments that the reader goes through with Scott, you find yourself wanting him to be able to move on and find happiness again.
I would highly recommend this series to PNR fans. You do need to read Phoenix Rising and Phoenix Fallen to understand what is going on in this book.

I love the Phoenix, Inc. series. Phoenix Broken did not disappoint. All of the characters from the previous books (save the ones who have died) unite in this book to give a real, complex feel to the story. It builds. It teases. It overwhelms.

Heather Blair does not coddle her characters. Most of them are broken (pun intended) but the missing pieces are filled with the loyalty and love of those in the Phoenix, Inc. family. Now, these folks aren't related by blood. Humans. Psychics. Vampires. Werewolves. And now, a succubus named Desdemona (Des). Yes, her backstory is just as tragic as Shakespeare's character. Scott turns out to be her Othello! And, turn out he does. I love his elemental powers, his broken pieces, his eventual love for her. I didn't want to cry. Mostly because it's hard to read with tears in my eyes. But the emotions, the revenge, the crazy-evil plot twists are so engaging.

This author claims to write dark, sexy, and shivery stories. It's true. She's really quite excellent at building a world of paranormal beings that seem so real. Her words are frightening, alluring, at times, dirty and disgusting, and absolutely beautiful. Kudos, Heather! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
