Three men brought together by circumstance who found something none of them knew they needed...

Ren Barretti has finally come home after a year of being held captive by the terrorists who slaughtered his entire Special Forces team. But he can't escape the nightmares that torment him or the guilt that he was the only one to walk away. The life his older brothers have brought him home to doesn't exist for him anymore and to keep them and their loved ones safe from the rage and pain that consume him, Ren needs to disappear.

Police Detective Declan Hale has felt an undeniable pull towards the very straight Ren Barretti since the day Ren's brother married Declan's younger sister almost a dozen years earlier. But even though the Ren who has come home isn't the one who left, all of Declan's feelings come rushing back to the surface and he steps in to help the only man he's ever truly wanted. And even though there's no future for them, keeping Ren safe is all that matters and Declan will risk anything to make that happen.

Tough as nails former soldier and mercenary Jagger Varos has returned to Seattle after years of running from his past and he's hoping that joining Barretti Security Group will help him finally call the city he left behind home. But within weeks, his new beginning is tested after multiple run-ins with the gruff, infuriating Detective Hale. When he inadvertently discovers that Declan is hiding Ren from the very brothers offering Jagger a new start, Jagger finds himself torn between his newfound loyalty to Vin and Dom Barretti and the need to protect the young man he himself helped rescue from his captors.

For Declan and Jagger, it's hate at first sight but they soon realize that they will need each other if they have any hope of saving Ren from himself. And neither of them expects their mutual distrust in one another to grow into something else entirely or that Ren himself will find in both of them what he needs to rebuild his life and come to terms with who he really is.

Can the fierce attraction between three men become something more or will the demands of the real world tear them apart?

⭐ 2.5 “And the sob story olympics CONTINUE (but hey, at least there’s gratuitous smut)” stars⭐

I really am a clown for claiming I was in the mood for some fluff and then turning around and deciding to pick up a Sloane Kennedy book of all things (aka the antithesis of anything lighthearted).

But what can I say?

description
While I’ve had very mixed experiences with her previous works, I still keep coming back!

***********************

As a starting point, let me set the scene for anyone jumping in without any prior knowledge. Most of Sloane Kennedy’s books take place in the same world (Sloane Kennedy Literary Universe or SKLU for short), and therefore that means that you’ll see plenty of familiar faces popping up in each installment. If you ask me, however, her books have enough exposition to be practically standalones.

Allow me to elaborate:

You see, something I have noticed is how you get paragraphs after paragraphs detailing most of the important plot points from previous stories and, as someone who has made sure to read all the other books leading up to here, it’s hard not to be left with the faint impression that the author might have mistaken her audience for a bunch of amnesiacs.

description
Yes, I get that the books were released months and even years apart, but when you have whole pages of recapping? At that point it’s not catching up anymore, but a whole ass reenactment.

So it’s probably a good idea for anyone venturing forward to keep that small nugget of information in mind, since your patience could very well be tested.

Moving on, let’s address…

The actual plot (or the semblance of it in any case).

This is Sloane Kennedy’s second attempt at MMM after Finding Home (the first book in the Finding series)... and can I just say right out of the gate that it did not meet expectations? It has almost fifty extra pages on its polyamorous predecessor, yet the relationship ends up feeling somewhat hollower, with the connection between the three MCs barely managing to leave an impression at all.

There's a whole lot of telling and not showing when it comes to the central romance, basically. We get told about a decade-old crush one of the protagonists harbors (because Declan apparently spent ten whole years pining for Ren after exchanging about five words at a wedding once). Then characters proclaiming they’re soulmates after barely a week of knowing each other (Despite Jagger’s supposed commitment issues). Even big declarations of love and eternal loyalty get exchanged here. The whole romantic shebang, truly.

And still…

description
My thoughts on the throuple in this one.

As can be the pattern with SK’s work, the story is much too busy focusing on all the angst(y backstories) to bother with the actual depth of the romance. Instead of witnessing character development and quality bonding time that propels the relationship forward, we get a book that was too fixated on highlighting traumatic past events. Horrifying kidnapping in the middle east? Check. Traumatic childhoods? Check. Internalized homophobia after years of repression? Check. Check. Check.

(And that’s not even half of the examples, y’all).

Although some of the anguish did manage to somewhat land, such as the struggles Ren, who is the middle child from the Barretti brothers and the last one to get his own book, faced relating to his PTSD after a year in captivity. The way Sloane Kennedy tackled the problems he had differentiating between reality and horrific memories was descriptive in a way that was realistically daunting. You felt like you were there with him in those moments, the sand from the desert sliding between your fingers and the coppery smell of blood overwhelming your senses. And that, as a result, transformed Ren into the only MC I was able to empathize and give half a damn about.

Which was quite a far cry from my reaction to the other members of the throuple, Jagger and Declan...

description
There is only so many fucks I can afford to give, and mine were all used up by feeling sorry for Ren to even bother with the other MCs.

Besides, as my title for this review implies, it really turned out to be the Sadness Olympics over here. If by Sadness Olympics it was also implied to be bizarrely superficial levels of angst, at any rate. And its impact on the narrative was not helped by the abrupt transitions from tragic themes into explicit smut. Those became so ridiculously tactless at times that I couldn’t even fully enjoy the steam. And when I, the biggest perv out there, cannot partake in the joy of some raunchiness?

Now that’s truly the biggest alert of them all.

***********************

To fully give you all an idea, below will be examples of the level of nuance we are dealing with:

Warning: slight spoilerish quotes ahead.

🚨
🚨
🚨
🚨
🚨
🚨

🚨
🚨
🚨
🚨

(Context: happened in one of the first chapters, while Declan, who is a police detective, was interrogating Jagger at the police station, where they both then proceeded to discuss Declan’s deceased sister).

Jagger had to stifle a groan at the thought of that rough stubble scraping over his skin as he imagined those wide lips wrapped around his cock.
“Sorry for your loss,” Jagger managed to get out as he tried to get his libido under control. “I never met her but Vin told stories about her…”

And all of that, I repeat, while acknowledging a FAMILY DEATH. In the middle of an official investigation, AT A POLICE STATION.

@ Jagger:

description
I know surprise erections are a very real ailment, but… this man was literally fantasizing and popping a boner while he was giving condolences in public!!! WHA-

And some other ✨subtle gems✨

(Context: Ren being conflicted after a fight between Declan and Jagger has Jagger running for the hills).

Ren bit back the combination of disappointment and desire that went through him. Disappointment because Declan’s presence meant Jagger was gone and had left without saying goodbye and desire because Declan’s jeans were drawn tight over his ass.

Ah, yes, the age-old conundrum. When you don’t know whether to lament the sudden disappearance of a potential lover or just admire some quality ass.

description
Talk about a multitasking legend.

Furthermore, as the final pièce de résistance:

(Context: takes place after Ren finally decides to open up about the horrors of his kidnapping to Declan and Jagger, confiding in them the secrets of the tragedy involving a friend he was taken captive with).

“It’s going to be okay,” Declan whispered. He felt Ren shake his head.
“I never even gave his parents or his fiancé his messages.”
“You will,” Jagger responded. “Someday when you’re ready, you will.”

****
Ren let his eyes drift shut as he felt Jagger’s cock slip all the way inside him...

description
The fact that this was supposed to be one of the biggest emotional breakthroughs, and the author decided to just ditch it and switch to smut instead? Just an example of how most of the issues were addressed between the MCs, sadly.

Yet even with my objections, critiques and numerous eye-rolls…

I’m honestly still planning on finishing the series.
So take all of what I said above with a giant grain of salt, considering I’m clearly not having that much of a bad time if I keep coming back for seconds.

If anything, I’m frankly impressed by this author’s ability to continuously reel me in despite my very real nitpicks. And for anyone willing to put up with high degrees of OTT-ness, angst for angst’s sakes, and a distinctive lack of subtletythis might still yet work for you.

Especially if you’re just in for some hot MMM steaminess. Because if you ignore the pathway required to get there, the end result is still pretty scorching.

***********************

Now, following tradition...

Keywords to find out if this might be the book for you:

Gay throuple. Angst(y backstories). With bucket loads of exposition to boot. Surprisingly believable portrayal of PTSD. MCs needing several hugs each. Liked insta-love? How about insta-obsession then. Everyone acting as if they were on viagra 24/7. Versatile lovers. Forced proximity (they all stay in a cabin for most of the story). Fishing as a bonding experience. Family drama that gets stretched until the very last second. And, to conclude, a HEA that was rushed and a bit far-fetched, but still kinda cute.

4 stars for this HOT MMM story

While reading Protecting Elliot I got super curious about Declan, one of the secondary characters. He played a big part at the end of that novella. We get his back story: police detective in a very homophobic environment. He had to hide he was gay. Until he met his soul mates: Jagger and Ren.
I had to search for this book A LOT because this author has written many series and there are SO many books! I just couldn't find Declan's story soon enough.

In Saving Ren we get 3 tormented men.
Declan was mourning his sister who died of cancer and he was still hiding he was gay, because his captain was homophobic too.

Jagger is a former soldier and mercenary with a perfect bad boy attitude and body: has tattoos, he's huge and full of muscles.

Ren is broken and full of self-hatred. He's been brought home, but the year he was kept captive left deep scars: physically and mostly psychically. He wanted to disappear for a while because his nightmares made him dangerous to all his loved ones. Declan has been in love with him for over 10 years and now helps him run away from his brothers and hide in his cabin.

There's A LOT of angst, but also a lot of HOT HOT HOT scenes between these 3 broken men. I absolutely adored Jagger. He was so introverted and didn't think he'll ever find love.

It must be really hard to get 3 men to fit so well, 3 very different men, each having a rough past. But this author did it SO well. I'll be reading more from Sloane Kennedy.

~3.5~

Sloane Kennedy knows how to write MMM. The give and take between all three men feels genuine, and their sexual chemistry is intense.

Ren is the broken one, suffering from severe PTSD after being held captive by the enemy for a year. Ren has never been with a man, but he's drawn to the two men who vow to protect him.

Jagger is the street thug whose dyslexia made him the brunt of jokes for as long as he can remember.

Declan is the conflicted cop who's hid his sexual identity his entire life.

Jagger and Declan blow hot and cold. They fight when they really want to fuck. It takes Ren to bring them together.

There is some serious angst, but the drama doesn't overwhelm the romance. The threeway sex is scorching!

I do love hard-earned HEAs.

This book overlaps with book 2 and won't work well as a standalone.

I think I falling into a rabbit hole with this series...LOL

even though, I liked the main characters who are fighting their past, guilt trips, unanswered deal and doubts and then they eventually find themselves complete within each other's reach...

Declan, Jagger and Ren will captivate you BUT my sight is set on Zane , a secondary character and he also has his own story, so you can guess where I'll be heading next *wink*

Reread 4/9/19.. still loved it. Sloane really got me into MMM

I'm normally not a big fan of mmm books. I have fewer problems with it if it's just one scene where there is a threesome instead of a whole book.

For some reason, I always feel some sort of jealousy for one of the characters....if that makes sense.

I didn't have those feelings while reading this book. I really believed in the connection these men shared and I also believed in the love they felt for each other.

It was really sweet and beautiful and very very hot :))

They really belonged together..the three of them. I felt so happy for them ;)

Awesome book...5 stars, because this was definitely the best mmm I've read so far :))

This story had me with the first chapter, Jagger sitting and glaring at Declan across the interrogation table.
I loved Declan's strength, Jagger's protectiveness, and Ren ' s strong will to survive. All three come together to form a bond so strong, not even haunted memories and broken hearts can tear it apart. I am in love with the Barretti family, and want so bad to attend one of the infamous Sunday night dinners.

I am loving my Sloane Kennedy reading binge, Saving Ren was my seventh book since the beginning of May and I will be continuing with it, so much so I think I will be increasing my 2018 reading challenge on here thanks to Sloane.

Saving Ren is the third book in the Barretti Security series and I have been curious to find out more about Ren and the Hell he went through.

Ren cannot face being around his older brothers Vin and Dom in case he hurts them or the ones they love so Declan gives him a safe place to go.

Declan wants to help Ren recover from his ordeal, Jagger wants to keep an eye on Ren as well as he was on the team that rescued him so when Declan goes to the cabin to check on Ren, Jagger follows him, when they both arrive they here a gun shot and they realise they cannot leave Ren there on his own.

Two men Declan and Jagger it was hate at first sight for these two can they come together to help Ren begin to rebuild his life and survive his guilt and nightmares.

I loved everything about this story and these three men together are wonderful, the way they are there for each other not just sexually which by the way H O T but emotionally as well, they complete each other as I said WONDERFUL.

When Ren met Rafe OMG I was crying.

I am off now to get to know Connor and Zane.

3.75 stars! 💕 Loved it! Ren, Jagger and Declan had all been through hell and it was amazing to see them battle their personal demons to finally come together. 😍. The story had a little bit of a slow burn going since Ren was very damaged and distraught when they all met. Declan and Jagger had to overcome their prejudices against one another to help Ren get some stability. Declan had loved Ren forever and Jagger fell for him quite immediately, but what was this heat between Jagger and Declan? Would it survive the stress of taking care of Ren and keeping some secrets from him? 😳
I have always preferred MMMs with all 3 MCs get into a relationship at the same time; rather than when a third joins in later. In this one too, Declan may have known and loved Ren from a decade ago, it was all still very new for all of them since Ren had always considered himself straight, but it worked...💘🔥. The three generated enough heat to melt all barriers of hurt, pain and past traumas away. 😍.
The story was more emotional than the ones before but it was amazing to see Ren finally find some peace, love and also reconcile with his large family. 😁🤗

I love Sloane Kennedy's MMMs. Full of inner angst, and lots of hurt/comfort.

It was nice to read a MMM story where not all three guys had to present to have sex. I would imagine it doesn’t work that way when you’re in a relationship with three instead of two. These guys had sex when they wanted, with two or three. No jealousy was ever involved. I really liked that.

Ren Barretti has just been rescued from a year in hell. He was captured with his team on a mission and he spent a year in captivity, being tortured. He suffers from severe PTSD and he needs some space from his brothers, so he disappears even though they just got him back.

What no one knows is that Declan, the police officer who questioned Ren when he was in trouble, offered his remote cabin to Ren.

Declan finds out the security system has been turned off so he knows Ren has to be in the cabin. He wants to go there to see how Ren is doing. He knows he is being followed to the cabin by Jagger, who works security for the Barretti brothers and he lets him tag along. Jagger suspected Declan of knowing something about Ren when he felt like Declan was hiding something.

When Ren tries to shoot them, they know he needs help. Jagger and Declan offer to stay with Ren, so Ren can heal some, but Ren only agrees if Jagger and Declan don’t tell his brothers where he is.

Being at the cabin with the three of them is a challenge at times. Because all three are attracted to each other, but won’t admit it, the tension is thick.

When Ren sees Declan and Jagger kissing one night, he takes a risk and follows his heart by joining them. After this the three grow very close and start developing feelings. But Ren is still not healed enough to reconnect with his brothers and Declan and Jagger are trying to keep Ren from finding out his younger brother Rafe is back as well...

I really liked these guys, big strong Declan and Jagger and smaller Ren. I loved how their relationship developed without too many hiccups. There was some relationship angst near the end, but it wasn't too bad. And it didn't feel fabricated either, so I could handle it just fine.

I love how Sloane Kennedy always balances all the hurt/comfort. All these guys are traumatized in some way, but it never felt overwhelming to me. It all felt so natural the way they comforted each other when one of them needed it.

I really enjoyed this and see myself rereading this a lot in my future. No DP though. ;)

I really liked this one! There is so much angst, heartbreaking memories and passion! Woohoo! The lengths that Jagger and Declan went to help Ren get better were astounding considering that Jagger at that point didn't have any emotional investment in the relationship. The world is a small place, and these three men are linked through friends, work and personal connections that all come to light.

Declan has made a mistake that led to a horrible tragedy, which made him finding happiness with another man impossible. So he hides his needs and cravings until they bubble up to the surface, and he has to find release. He is troubled, scared and suffers every day. Jagger always felt less. Nobody ever cared enough to stand up for him when he felt he could not. When Declan and Ren come into his life, all his insecurities rear their ugly heads and try to interfere. But these two men will not let him down. Ren, after being rescued from year long captivity, has a long way to recover. But first he needs to see that it's alright to need and ask for help. Three men meeting at a crossroads of their lives find true love and happiness in each other arms. It was painful, full of anguish and need. To make a life together, they first have to forgive themselves.

There was a bit of tension, but all the men found peace and were able to move on with their lives together and fall deeply in love. I loved every page and highly recommend it!

Oof, I'm not sure how but I think I forgot how angsty SK's books could get. Of course, there's also a heaping helping of scorching hot, too...so it balances out.

(I'm glad I went back to the beginning - as Inigo say Vizzini told him to do - of the MM stories for the Barrettis since the characters seem to factor heavily in The Protector series...starting right about where I left off.)

***** Sloane Kennedy hits us with a magnificent story of intrigue, investigating, action, and sizzling hot sexy times. * The cast of characters can be intimidating, but Sloane keeps it simple as she tells her story. This episode tells us the circumstances that have Jagger, Declan and Ren in close quarters.
Detective Declan is 34, with rugged, muscled looks,

blue eyes and dirty blonde hair.
Jagger works for the Barrettis, is 6'2," big, built,

with a shaved head, tattoos, scars and silver gray eyes.

Jagger has been brought in for questioning and his side of the story, because he roughed up Jason Sutter, who attacked Connor, Jagger's friend from the service. Declan and Jagger are attracted, and each of them is attracted to Ren.
Ren, slim, troubled and unsettled,

is having PTSD issues from being held in a "hole" overseas.
Declan is helping Ren, and Jagger joins the men at Declan's cabin. It may sound confusing, but as you read it all slides into place and you are riveted.
The men are patient with Ren, and help him get through his rough patch of being freed from his "Hell," where Jagger was on the rescue detail. In their close proximity, our three men get to see each other away from their jobs, and the trio become close. * As the story swirls around them, in their isolation, we get to watch the deep emotions and cravings come together. First time male sex for Ren. Our men's M/M/M sexiness is scorching hot, passionate, raw and powerful. Breathtaking.

Once again we see Vin and Dom Barretti, who have a Security Company, and their younger brothers are Rafe and Ren. Rafe's sad tale was in the last episode.

Things are not easy, and we see the homophobic Captain of Police, Jason Sutter's sliminess, Ren's recovery, and the secret Ren hasn't heard about, yet.

Wonderful writing, a superb, non-stop tale of relationships, family, friends, and truly, deep love, have us looking forward to the next episode in the Barretti's Security book.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

This was book 3 in the "Barretti Security" series. Ren Barretti has finally come home after a year of being held captive by the terrorists who slaughtered his entire Special Forces team. But he can't escape the nightmares that torment him or the guilt that he was the only one to walk away. Ren is suffering from PTSD and he left because he didn't want to hurt anyone in his family like he almost hurt Mia his big brother Vin's girlfriend. Police Detective Declan Hale has felt an undeniable pull towards the very straight Ren Barretti since the day Ren's brother Dom married Declan's younger sister Sylvie almost a dozen years earlier. When he inadvertently discovers that Declan is hiding Ren from the very brothers offering Ren a place to recover at his cabin Jagger finds himself torn between his newfound loyalty to Vin and Dom Barretti and the need to protect the young man he himself helped rescue from his captors. This was a really good read Declan and Jagger took care of Ren showing him that he was safe with them. Each man has been through a lot Jagger with his mother and her boyfriend who is Declan's boss who has had it out for him Jagger who also suffered from dyslexia and he was a shame of it and thought that they wouldn't want him when they found out. Declan also went through things like he is in the closet no one knows he is gay and when he told his grandfather he was almost disowned. Ren was straight and he was even more confused when he started having feelings for both men. The sex scenes in this book were hot as hell the three of them had some hot chemistry. This book also brought home the dangers of war and the PTSD seemed so real for me someone who has worked with men and women who have been to war and some of the things that they struggle with when they come home. Each of these men have been through somethings in their past that with the three of them it made them whole. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading and listening to the next book in this series.

[Jagger] closed his eyes and smiled when he felt a pair of lips brush over his. He had no idea whose they were and the fact that it didn’t matter scared the shit out of him. But he did the only thing he could do and returned the kiss with everything he had left in him.

This is the emotion I want to feel coming from characters in a M/M/M book when all three of the characters are working towards a committed relationship. With those lines Sloan Kennedy succeeded in making me believe in the growing love between Jagger, Declan, and Ren; something I am not always able to believe in when reading a love story like this.
What was supposed to be a night of simple fucking was turning into something entirely different and even though he knew it was too fast and it wasn’t something any of them could sustain, he wanted it more than he’d ever wanted anything else in his entire life. He finally had a chance to be part of something amazing and even if it was for only one night, he sure as hell was going to take full advantage.

Don't be deceived by the title; Ren is not the only one in this book who needs saving. Jagger and Declan both have their own ghosts tormenting them. This could have easily been an annoying, roll-your-eyes book full of angst and drama considering all three needed saving. Thankfully, since I really dislike angst, these guys were able to work things out with enough drama to keep things interesting without driving me nuts.

Not that this is so mega noteworthy or anything, but I did really like the fact that there was about a three month time span during which time the relationship grew. Sure, the sexin' times came early on (Thank you, Sloan Kennedy!), but there was growth during that time as all three men learned about each other (and themselves). No insta-love. Oh, oh, and I forgot! It has one of my favorite little tropes: enemies to lovers. Maybe not enemies, but there was some definite dislike going on between Jagger and Declan when they first met. Of course, now that I think of it, maybe not "enemies to lovers." Maybe more like, "Shit, he's an ass but he sure is hot." Whatever you want to call it, it worked for me.

Highly recommend. Not too happy to have to wait for Zane and Connor, though. I'm not too fond of delayed gratification in any form but especially not when I've just discovered a new-to-me author and realize I have to wait for the next book. And boy do I want to know what drives Zane and I can't wait to find out more about Connor's injury. I think I might just have to sign up for the author's newsletter so I don't miss out. (It took me five whole days to realize Saving Ren had come out. The horror!)

This is my first MMM. For a long time I resisted to read a book with this theme because I'm a selfish person, I don't share. so I just don't get polyamorous relationships.
But it waa time to open my mind.

This was good. It wasn't awesome but it was good. I felt the connection and I liked the 3 characters.
The only thing is, I felt more connection between Declan and Jagger. I'm not sure if it was just me but I felt like there were more moments between these two than with Ren. I'm not saying he was unimportant but it didn't felt as big.

I did liked that Ren wasn't magically cured. It was very realistic.
I liked their relationship and the story. How the three of them had different backgrounds and struggles but they helped each other. It was a little short to fully developed three characters but it was good.
Kuddos to the author too because I didn't read the first book in this series and some serious important shit happened to Ren there but I still understood everything.

I'm honestly open to read more MMM stories in the future.

3.5 stars from me. I felt all of the sex, and believe me, there was an awful lot of it, detracted from the main storylines, which concerned missing Barretti brother Ren coming out of his funk after combat, capture and torture in Afghanistan, police detective Declan fighting to come out of the closet and be his own man, showing his homophobic police captain how to be an honest cop and Jagger trying to feel worthy of the other two. A catch up with Rafe and Cade, and setting the scene for Zane and Connor in the next story in the series.

This was great and emotional and heart wrenching. Did I mention it was also HOT? whew *fans self vigorously*

My only other experience with MMM from Sloane Kennedy was less than stellar so I was a bit apprehensive about this book. However, my curiosity over how Ren would rediscover & heal himself pushed me to give it a try. I'm a glad I did.

I believed in the emotional bond these 3 men had with one another. The beginning was as rocky as one would expect, with Ren's mental instability, Declan's negative issues with his sexuality as well as Jagger's inability to trust and be vulnerable to anyone. The way these men worked through these weighty issues was perfect for the kind of individuals they were. It also didn't hurt that the chemistry between them was scorching I tell you. I literally had to pause and resume because... Gah!! Lol!!

One thing I would've liked to have happened however was for more insight into how Ren internally dealt with his newfound attraction to men, rather than it being glossed over. Also, I expected a bit more reaction from Dom and Vin towards the whole Ren situation but it wasn't so.

I know the new characters introduced in this story, Zane and Connor, are next in line with the next book. Sufficient to say, after the way this book and the book before this went, I'll definitely be grabbing it.

I had written a wonderfully sarcastic review, and my iPad ate it. I think it was trying to tell me not to post it. So, you get this instead.🤷🏽‍♀️

Reread 7/2/2021 I feel cheated. Lied to, damn it! Where are all the magical d*cks that heal emotional trauma? 🙄😒

Reread 2/7/2022 I don’t know why I’m reading these again. I’m beginning to think sleep deprivation.

Saving Ren follows along with the Barretti brothers and also follows the rest of the Baretti Security series and would not work well as a standalone. It especially follows the events that took place in book two, Redeeming Rafe. Ren is tormented with PTSD and can’t function well and Declan wants to protect him and give him a safe space. Jagger has been in and out of trouble and having dyslexia and being gay made him a target from which he hasn’t quite recovered.

The men are all drawn to each other. And even when Declan and Jagger want to hate each other first, the chemistry between all the men sparks brightly. Kennedy excels in writing three men together and the pull between all the men is well done and we get to know each man separately and then how they will work as a trio. This series is not as intense for me as The Protectors series and while Kennedy’s writing and characters are addictive and keep me coming back, this series doesn’t pack quite the emotional punch as some of the others.

Nobody does menage like Sloane Kennedy. I loved this story! Over and above the heat level, the relationship dynamic was fantastic and the story, which was primarily a hurt-comfort story of saving Ren's sanity after he spent a year as a hostage in isolation in Afghanistan was very well done.

Add in the parallel storyline of what was happening to Rafe from the last book and of all the other Barretti characters we met in the last few books, and this one was just exactly what I needed to make my day.

I love me a good M/M/M menage read, and this one didn't disappoint. The hurt/comfort aspect appealed to me, as did the two alphas butting heads until they figured out what they both needed was each other and their third. I also appreciated Ren yearning to stand on his own, to heal so he could give as much as to Declan and Jagger as they were giving to him.

Favorite of the series so far. I think the chemistry and relationship between these three was done very well!

Now I hope the last book with Zane goes well like this one!

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

So as if this author didn’t put us through enough with Rafe’s story she now batters our hearts a little bit more with Ren’s story. Ren is brother number three and has been missing for over a year on a mission that went wrong.

Cleverly this story runs along the same time as Rafe’s and is just has painful on the old heart! Ren has been found and brought home and the Barretti’s should be celebrating but he is so broken that as yet there hasn’t been much joy. Realising he is a danger to himself, his family and his friends Ren takes off to hide out in a friends cabin but he is still a danger which is when Jagger and Declan step in to help and keep his whereabouts a secret whilst he starts to heal.

As well as the obvious pain and struggle that Ren lives with there are some other tense points to this story. Declan is a closeted cop who has his needs not met exactly but at least scratched by Zane every now and again. He has been in love with Ren for years from afar and now finds it more difficult than ever to be around the man all the time. Jagger works for the Barretti brothers and he has a whole host of problems he is trying to deal with the biggest of which is connected to Declan’s work. Jagger can’t help finding Declan attractive even if he ends up at odds with him most of the time. The fact that he also finds Ren attractive, that Declan can’t stop looking at Jagger and as broken as Ren is he can’t stop looking at either of his saviours – well yes, the sparks are flying!

I love MMM but it has to be done well and Saving Ren is. There is no instant love although there is pretty instant sex but after the initial sexting is out of the way the three men really do settle down to try and make things work well. All three men need to heal and move forward, not just Ren, and they are all pretty adept at helping each other. There are misunderstandings that are for the most part are easily cleared up but there is one secret that shakes them and leaves Ren wondering whether he can really trust them.

Whilst Ren steps back in order to recover and try to understand what to him seems like a betrayal it gives him with a chance to reconnect with his brothers. This is the first time all four brothers have had this chance in over two decades and it’s emotional – something that Sloane Kennedy seems to have a knack for!

"Saving Ren" by Sloane Kennedy (MMM, Romance)

A copy of this book was provided to me by Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.

****4 STARS****

Not gonna lie, I haven't even read Book 1 or 2 yet. I skipped to 3 'cause it sounded too interesting. I've never read a book by this author before, but that didn't bother me. I like to read. :)

So, this is a threesome with a cop (Declan), a former mercenary turned bodyguard (Jagger) and a former soldier (Ren). This had all my favorite themes so of course I just had to read it when it was offered. I liked this threesome. Ren was all kinds of messed up when he returned from being held prisoner for a year. Jagger was part of the team that got him back. Declan is the brother-in-law of one of Ren's older brother. He let Ren go and handed the code to his cabin because he's been in love with Ren for 10 yrs. Ren wanted to hide from the world, afraid of what his PTSD/blackouts would make him do.

The author did a great job making them a THREESOME, not 2 guys plus 1 extra guy. I really hate reading threesomes like that. And I liked how they each showed passion for one another equally. Sometimes authors fail to do that and Sloane Kennedy did a pretty awesome job. They fell for each other pretty fast, but their passion was HOT HOT HOT. actually, I kinda thought that there was too many sex scenes and not enough plot. That's why it's 4 stars instead of 5. I will admit, however, that I was dying for them to finally get together. When they did, I was like "Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay."

I wish there was some action scenes. I mean, a cop, a mercenary and a soldier...can I get an action scene please? lol. I was disappointed that there wasn't one. Ah well, can't have'em all. I'm glad I found this author though.

I'm going to read Book 2. Book 3 made me too curious. Book 2 was happening in the same timeline as Book 3 so the readers gets bits and pieces of book 2's plot.

Can I get more Declan, Jagger and Ren time? ;P

This is the third of the “Barretti security” series, a saga about 4 brothers, from Sloane Kennedy, one of my favorite author. This one is a m/m/m romance, not my usual genre, but I’m so addicted to this series and to Sloane Kennedy’s writing that I overlooked that.

This book is about Ren, a former soldier who is back in his brothers ‘life after being held prisoner for a year. He is seriously damaged and suffers from PTSD, which makes him afraid of staying with his family. A struggle he won’t have to fight alone as Declan, a cop who has had a big crush on him for a long time, and Jagger, a bodyguard from Barretti Security, the firm owned by Ren’s brothers, step in.

As usual with Sloane Kennedy, it’s hot and intense. As mentioned, it’s a m/m/m romance, so if you’re into this genre : go for it and enjoy the ride.
