Dead Team Alpha #2

Dead Team Alpha 2: The Stronghold

Rate this book
The Stronghold.
A fortified survivor pocket tucked into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the former Boulder, Colorado. A culture based on military training and strength, the Stronghold is now the last bastion for the living. For nearly a century the Stronghold has thrived, rebuilding a small slice of civilization in the midst of a zombie infested wasteland.
But that is all about to change.
The pride of the Stronghold, Dead Team Alpha, the elite strike force that helps keep not just the Zs, but crazies, cannibals, and cults from overrunning the walled sanctuary, is being put to the ultimate test- banding together with one of the community’s most deadly enemies in order for all of humanity to survive.
Why would DTA need to put its trust in a crazy cult that almost killed them all? Because the Z herds are not lessening, they are getting bigger and stronger!
It is a race against time, as DTA struggles to defend the Stronghold from the millions of undead that march towards them, hungry for the last bits of living flesh left in a land that is nothing but death for as far as the eyes can see!

Another good Dead Team Alpha zombie thriller. I will for sure need to check out the "Sister" character from his other zombie related titles. Lots of zombies, crazies, cannibals, and code-monkeys involved in the story. It would be a plus to have read Dead Team Alpha #1 prior to this one to get to know the world and characters of Dead Team Alpha.

Great continuation of the series. Very engaging, highly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. The story pulls you in immediately and never lets go. It was one of those books I couldn't wait to get back to. I listened every chance I could. The series is definitely worth your time and credit.

Just like all his other books this one is full of non-stop action, suspense and liberal doses of sarcastic humor. When I say non-stop action, I mean non-stop. The story is fast paced and something is constantly happening. All you can do is hang on and enjoy the ride. It doesn't shy away from using "foul/crude" language so if you have a problem with it this may not be the book for you.

The light bulb just went off! The dots connected and I'll admit it, I'm blonde. Cue the jokes. I had listened to the first book in Z-Burbia series and really liked it. I haven't had time to read the rest of the series (it's on my TBR list) or I may have made the connection much sooner. It took me a while to realize this was a continuation of sorts from that series. I even listened to Dead Team Alpha 1 and never made the connection. This series stands completely on it's own from Z-Burbia so there is no "need" to read that series before reading this series. But definitely listen to Dead Team Alpha 1 before this book.

The remaining survivors of the stronghold find themselves working with the Code Monkeys this time around. Even though they have a common goal can they trust them? Definitely didn't see the final twist coming.

Even though this is the "end" of this series. I'm looking forward to the continuation of the story in a sense in The Apex Trilogy. If Jake Bible writes it, I will read it.

Once again F.C. McAllister does a great job with the narration. He has one of those voices that just pulls you right into the story and is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Really good character voices. Perfect delivery and tone of the humor. While each character may not have a distinct voice, he gave each character their own personality so it was always easy to tell who was speaking. He was able to bring the story and the characters to life. Very enjoyable.

Other than a couple of repeated lines I don't remember any other issues.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.

Dead Team Alpha retreats to the stronghold, to make one last stand against the hordes of zombies heading their way. A warrior from the distant past makes her appearance and has DTA scratching their heads wondering who she is and what the heck she’s talking about. Eventually it is made known that she has an important role in the coming battle. Speaking of the coming battle, DTA finds that it is in their best interest to align themselves with the Code Monkeys as it is apparent that their goals for humanity are the same. More twists and turns as the final plan, at least for North America, are made known. One more move to the real stronghold and the plan will be put in motion. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion.

Hallelujah, another 5 star rating for Jake Bible! This 2nd book was absolutely amazeballs! Not only do we have a zombie evolution problem, which means some much faster Z’s, we also have crazy-ass blind ninja cultists, and a return of one of THE best characters in the Z-Burbia series. And I just gotta say, I was 100% prepared to cry over her death, which I thought for sure would happen in this book....and I’m celebrating instead, because she’s still alive at the end. HUZZAH!

Wow!!

Loved this book! From the beginning, I knew who Sister was, and it was awesome how Jake Bible related the characters to ones we knew from Z-Burbia. Can't wait to see what's next!

Second installment of Dead Team Alpha and the teams are again in danger from the growing zombie swarm and Monkey Coders. As a drastic solution takes shape, a mysterious stranger holds the key to survival. Good story, that has connections into other series by Jake Bible.

Five Stars for the Ending

Much like the first book in this series, the story doesn't really come together into something cohesive until well after halfway through the book. It takes about the same time to become familiar with the main characters.
Choppy organization.... characters are just sprung on the reader, with zero character development. Those characters are killed off as quickly as they appear. Disposable characters = disposable chapters.
For the main characters, there is much more character development than in the first book. Four stars for the effort, which still could have been better.
Also, descriptive phrases from the first book are used verbatim here. Not cool to be reading carbon copy material. It's not creative, and pulls the reader right out of the story.
The last few chapters of this story are fantastic! Fast paced, interesting characters (mainly Sister), and a unique storyline that kept me glued to the pages!
The editing of this book was great, unlike the first book.
I so wanted the two books to be five star material. Jake Bible is such an affable guy. He promotes (the heck out of himself) incredibly well. With all the hype, I expected insanely good work. I'm sorry to have to give low stars, but it's an honest review.

A must read for fans of the Z-burbia series!!!!!

Awesome book! Anyone who has read Jake Bible's Z_burbia , or Apex Trilogy will want to dive into this one! The non-stop action will have you at the edge of your seat and begging for more! Had I known what treasures awaited me inside I would have dove into it sooner...
Jake Bible has delivered once again! I hate spoilers in reviews so all I will say is long-time fans will be pleasantly surprised, and to those new to his work, welcome to your new addiction!

Even better than the 1st

This book was so amazing. Action packed all the way to the very end. As a fan of the Z-burbia series I love that this book is connected and that there is another series after this that's connected. It's like the story in full circle. Genius!

DTA are off into action again.
Brilliant second book in this series, I couldn't wait to read it and wasn't disappointed in any way. The teams are easy to root for and the story is non stop action.

I really like this series. Vey different from average zombie book. I know this is the last. But I love how the author lets you know where else to look to find this world in other stories.

""T.R.O.U.B.L.E. Trouble.""
Simply superb. Unlike book one which could be confusing with the quick introduction of large numbers of characters, many of whom live only briefly in the unrelenting fighting, our protagonists are more familiar, fewer in number (though just as likely to die) and there is one new main personality, Sister: irracible, demanding, older than those in the patrol, and killer extraordinary. Where most had sought the relative safety of the Stronghold or other secure communities, Sister had survived alone in the Wasteland for decades. But now, with the coming of the blind Code Monkey sect, the Cannies, crazies and the vast herds of Zs, numbering in their thousands, nowhere is safe. And as Denver falls, Sister needs to reach the Stronghold.

This is a book of very fast, almost constant action and the narration mirrors this. Mr.McCallister reads clearly but at a brisk pace, with a dry tone, never over emotional, thank goodness, allowing the text itself to tell the story. The inter-character dialogue, too, is quick and snappy, often black humour in the comments, and these are delivered well, not a vast array of voices, but appropriate and always clear as to speaker. A nice performance.

Well written, very visual, great characterisation, plenty of action, often funny, sometimes sad and always exciting: the tension grows as the vast hords of Zs converge and those weird and sinister Code Monkeys once again exert their influence. I was gifted this book be the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. And I loved it. Thank you. Great fun for all action fans, even those who, like me, don't usually like zombies. There is a fair amount of bad language, as should be expected in horrendous, life threatening situations, but even this is often funny. A standalone, though it helps to have read book one.
