I'm feeling shattered and a horrible sense of loss after finishing Stolas. Hope always just thought schizophrenia was her illness to endure . But everything comes crashing down at the last mental facility she is in. Her dark dreams become reality. Her fears are her premonitions. A balance to help both worlds. Stone is just that, a stone heart or so he tries to believe . His persona is dark and removed from everything around him. Until he meets Hope . She is a force to be reckoned with! Her sass and feisty nature is just what Stone needs. Even after warnings from his associates the warnings fall on deaf ears. So deliciously and well written ! My heart has felt every emotion for Hope and Stone. I'm left with such a sense of longing. I realize Stone thinks his decision is best but he couldn't be more wrong. The second installment to this Dark Souls Series cannot come fast enough! I need more! An intriguing and absolutely brilliant read!
”When you are marked as damned, there is no salvation.”
Last night, after I finished this book, I laid in bed and conjured up an AWESOME review, of epic proportions. Of course, I don’t remember it. Let’s hope I don’t fuck this up.
This is one of those books that you look at the cover and meh it. You read the description and you are still meh-ing it. Though, now going back and reading the description, I don’t really see how ”…figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death…” (of course that is in a dark and ominous voice). When you finally sit down and open to the first page, you are instantly drawn to the story line.
9 circles of hell. A damned divine soul. An oracle. Sexual tension. A plot that is unlike any I’ve read. All of that is a recipe for an epic read.
After reading this book, I question if people with mental illness who say that they see the devil, are really telling the truth. Hope truly believes her mind is fucked up because she sees demons, better yet, she sees their aura. Stone aka Stolas, the son of Lucifer, is only 50% evil. The other 50% is divine blood. He is torn between light and dark, taking his place beside Lucifer or uniting Heaven and Hell. Two unlikely people, whose souls have been intertwined, must decide if abandoning all hope is worth the price.
All seriousness aside, the sexual tension was beyond GREAT. I held my breath waiting, just WAITING for the moment that they realized they share one heartbeat. And let me tell you, the author did an outstanding job.
My biggest complaint was the editing, however, I blame that on her putting all of her focus on the explosion of lust that occurred.
Randi Cooley Wilson has an amazing talent to pull a reader into her books and STOLAS definitely pulled me in. The characters are easy to understand and have an amazing depth, they came to life as I read. Hope and Stone are destined to be together despite her humanity and his immortality. Stone is surrounded by darkness and Hope is his light. A sacrifice is made in the name of love that left me reeling. Jump into the Demons Den, read this book, you won't be disappointed! I can't wait for "Vasaggo"
I've always loved Randi's books and I've only found one demon based series I really liked until reading Stolas. As a survivor myself, I respect the way she handles the ugly truth of dealing with this side of such a scary truth that so many live with. As for the fantasy of the story, it's completely alluring and I didn't want to put the book down. It's so beautifully tragic and captivating that you're pulled into the story. I can't wait to read the next.
I picked this up on whim, she is a new author for me, at least I thought. Turns out I've got a few of her books on my reader, I've just not gotten to read them. I'm really glad that's changed. I gobbled up this book, it was fascinating and well written. The mythology is excellent and interesting, unique. The characters are all hiding things. Hope, one of the main characters is dealing with some heavy mental health issues, but there's a whole lot more that goes with that. Stone, our tormented male, is deeply flawed but with reason. You just gotta read it. This was really very good and I'll be picking up Vassago right after I finish writing this. I'm very much invested on where this is all going. I have such a hard time writing reviews, it's difficult to convey how much I liked this and in trying not to give anything away, but yet convince others to read if you like this genre. I feel as I never can give the book enough credit, so please forgive me and just read it.
Eh, this was just okay. There was a lot of potential with this story but definitely missed the mark for me. I felt like there was a lack of development with the characters, world building and plot. More time needed to be spent showing these aspects instead of just being “told”, making everything a bit too easy and convenient.
Unpopular opinion: I did not like this book. So first, I feel the need to point out that I really enjoyed Wilson's Revelation series, so it was a no-brainer to pick up the first installment of this new series. But sadly, there was too much I didn't really like.
1. If you've read the Revelation series, you will find that all characters are pretty much the same. There's the one girl that's always nasty to the heroine, the quirky girl that becomes an instant BFF, a funny dude and a brooding dude... I was disappointed that these characters were identical reflections to characters from Wilson's former work.
2. Hand in hand with this goes the issue that the characterization didn't fit with what the characters were supposed to represent: These guys should be demons, who knows how old. They should have dark souls, be evil, malicious and what not, but in reality, every dialog feels like a bunch of teenagers talking to each other. There was a horrible discrepancy between who they were supposed to be and how they all acted. Hope in the meantime was too Mary-Sue-ish. So basically we have a young girl who's been through some of the worst psychiatric clinics you can imagine, has suffered from hallucinations and panic attacks all her life and is diagnosed as schizophrenic and lives on heavy medication. But from one day to the next, she's completely fine, and after some really unconvincing whining and demanding to be freed, she's totally fine with being abducted by demons and being an Oracle.... Come on! That's not realistic. That's a Mary Sue, who's so stunningly beautiful, kind, funny, witty, makes the hero feel instantly protective for no reason at all and is just too perfect in the way she handles everything.
3. Insta-love alert! I feel like this has been done to death, and there's never anything new to this in any books. Hero sees heroine and instantly feels like she is so different. Centuries of darkness and torment and his entire life's purpose are turned upside down after one look at her, and he instantly needs to protect her and go against everything he knows, was raised to be, and knows is expected of him if he doesn't want to die.... Besides that, the heroine is super-duper special and one of a kind. On a side note, I was annoyed that Wilson, again, copied her own work, only this time the human who was touched by the divine is not used to serve heaven but instead, should help hell. So basically there is nothing new to Wilson's ideas, she's just changed the players.... It's an underwhelming result from someone who has managed to create a fascinating world in her Revelation series.
4. The plot was too easy and convenient to make it believable. So besides the fact that you have wannabe badass demons and a perfect Mary Sue, every thing just comes so easily. I mean how convenient that Stone's bodyguard can just infiltrate the clinic she's at. . I mean really, the list goes on and on with occurrences that are way too easy and convenient for the "romance" to happen as quickly as possible.
5. There's too much that's copied from her Revelation series. Yes I've mentioned a few already, but it's not just characters or the general world this is set in, but also so many little details. Once again we have an adopted heroine. Once again she's plagued by nightmares. Once again she ends up with a bunch of supernatural guys who just happen to be filthy rich. Once again it's ultimately about a forbidden love that was punished. Once again it's about heaven and hell, and humans are just kind of there but not really useful in any way. Once again it's all about free will.... I just felt incredibly sad at all the overlapping with her previous series. There is nothing original - the world building, the characters, the setting and even parts of the plot are exactly the same. Only this time, I wasn't intrigued. I wasn't hooked. Instead, I was frowning more times than not and could only feel frustrated at the obvious Mary-Sue/insta-love/ too convenient to be real plot....
If I could give this book 10 stars I would because it would be worth every single one! Randi Cooley Wilson has done it again...she's delivered an amazing new story that will leave you begging for more and with a shattered heart (aka what she does best)! In her first departure from her gargoyle series, Randi crafts an excellent new world, one that involves the 9 circles of Hell! I loved her spin on everything as it was unique but still held that feel of Dante's Inferno that I love. Just as you descend through the circles of Hell, Randi lets us descend into the story so that we fall in love with every single one of her new characters.
One thing Randi has always done an amazing job at is giving her readers characters that you love right from the beginning...even the bad ones. And Stolas is no exception! I honestly loved every single character that is featured in this book (well...maybe not Lucifer, but he was such a well-written evil character, I loved him for living up to his namesake devilish-ness). Hope is such a relatable character. She is such a force to be reckoned with and has great sass! I loved her character so much. Hope has been seeing demons and had dark dreams all her life, and because of that she's been told she's schizophrenic. But, obviously that's not truly the case. And when Stolas comes onto the scene, well let's just say he has his hands full with Hope. He definitely didn't expect someone like her to enter his life, but she does...and it's absolutely heart-stopping. Stolas, whose name is also Stone, has hardened his heart and believes he's just as much a devil as his father. That's not the truth though, and even though he's warned away from Hope, he can't resist her. And together they are perfect! Hope softens the stone that is Stolas' heart, and they have instant chemistry. They are plenty of sexy times between them, but I loved watching how both Stone and Hope developed into better, even stronger characters by the end of the book. Seriously though, the electricity between them as off the charts, and I loved every single second of it! All I have to say about Stone though is this:
The world-building in this novel is fantastic and I truly felt like I was right there next to these characters experiencing everything they were. Everything was so well-written and this book truly sweeps you off your feet. There are some tough subjects that are featured in the story, but Randi remained sensitive to these topics and wrote them realistically. She did an excellent job in these parts and I think it is something that deserves mention. That ending though....let's just say brutal doesn't even begin to describe it! It shattered my heart and left me a mess. I seriously don't know how I'm going to be able to make it until the second book in the series, Vassago, is released! Definitely add this to your TBR list for 2017 because you don't want to miss out!!
Its nice to read a story with structure, and clear characters. I love how intriguing it is and it makes you want to keep reading to find out what will happen. Can't wait to read the next one.
Stolas by Randi Cooley Wilson was an amazing read! There were so much stuff in this book that will make you want more. I didn't want this book to end. The love that was brewing over between Hope and Stone had me going all over the place. I wanted them to date, to be together even though I know they couldn't. Well in Stolas's eyes they couldn't, but there is always a way around it. He just hasn't found it yet.
Stolas is about a girl named Hope and a guy named Stolas. All her life she thought she was mentally ill. She could see things no one else could see. She was put in a place called Shadowbrook, a home for the mentally ill. While there she met a girl named Avi who claimed she was the daughter of Lilith and her roomie Lore. Then she went on to meet Lev and Vassago. She thought they were just as crazy as she was. One night she was out after curfew and was walking outside when she saw this guy sitting there in the cold and snow. He disappeared and reappeared to her in the piano room. There on her whole entire world turned upside down. Stolas is the prince of the Nine Circles, the son of Lucifer. His mission was to bring Hope, who is an oracle to join the dark souls. Well he does just that. But she still doesn't believe him. She still thinks she is mentally ill and that she was kidnapped. It took a while for her to believe. But once she actually did her feelings for Stolas grew and the feelings for Hope grew. But Stolas knew better, she was a human, and he was a demon. There was no being together. But she wants to save him, so she will do everything in her power to be with him.
The book was amazing. The characters were amazing. Stolas was a huge huge ass, but he is a prince of hell and a demon so I can completely understand. There were parts of the book where I was scared for Hope. But she is a strong women and she stuck it out and didn't back down. The bad thing about this book was the ending. I am definitely not going to spoiled that for anyone who wants to read the book. But the ending had me throwing a fit. Still an amazing book and I cannot wait for the second one.
Crazy beautiful! This was such a cool unique story. It grabs you and takes you on this amazing journey and I promise you, you won’t be disappointed! We meet Hope and right away she’s talking to a shrink and settling down on a new Psychiatry place. She sees visions, demons and hear voices. Here comes Stolas the son of non-other than Lucifer. *chills* and is assigned to kidnap Hope and bring her to his father. She is the key to gain the upper hand and power on his father’s plans against going to war with The Almighty one and Angels. She can read good souls and bad souls and is known as a Seeker. Hope thinks shes crazy and nothing is real to her. Then things get even more complicated because Stolas and Hope share a very real connection and are drawn to each other. Such a good read! The chemistry is there. Stolas has a great squad of friends: Adi, Valasso, Lev, Lore, and Adi. Don’t get it twisted, they are not kind, they are demons after all and they are deadly. But they do have their moments where they make you LOL a lot. They don’t play nice and they will protect Stolas at all cost. IT leaves on a cliffhanger! My heart dropped at the end and left me crying but book 2 is now available! Give it a try, so worth it.
If you are like me and don't like books with cliffhangers, please give this one a chance! This is my first book by Randi Cooley Wilson and I just finished reading Stolas for a second time - yes, it is that good. Hope is a young woman who firmly believes that she has schizophrenia. That the voices and visions of demons are just that - voices and hallucinations. Suddenly, she must grasp that all those things she thought weren't real, actually exist. Stolas is the heir to the 9 circles of hell. At the bidding of his father, Lucifer, he is tasked with bringing Hope into the 9 circles. This book is heart wrenching. I loved both characters. Even though Hope experiences great fear, she is such a strong and likable heroine. With Stolas, my heart aches for him. He struggles to straddle two worlds - the divine and Hell and you really see him evolve as a character. There is chemistry between them even though being together would be all sorts of wrong - I was rooting for them the entire time and unable to put the book down just to see what happens. I cannot wait until the next book in the series is released (Vassago on 5/15/18).
This is the first book that I have read by Randi Cooley Wilson, and I am hooked. I can't believe I have to wait till next year to get more of Stone and Hope!
For the past two years, Hope Annandale has fought to hold onto her sanity. Plagued by voices and visions, she struggles to understand what’s real, and what’s an illusion. As the lines between reality and hallucination blur, Hope discovers things that shouldn’t be real, suddenly exist. And the only one who can save her is the dangerously attractive demon prince, who is bound by an ancient legacy to betray her. The fate Stone has fought to escape is here. With destiny on one side, and desire on the other, Stone must protect Hope from the one thing he can’t hide from, his birthright.
What if the one person you were meant to be with could never be yours?
I started this not expecting much, and was rewarded with an irresistible story
Son of the devil and a divine oracle meet and while it isn't love at first sight, the attraction they have is palpable. The push and pull between what is right and wrong, what they should and shouldn't do, how the should and shouldn't feel for one another is a roller coaster ride. Hope grapples with the notion of whether she is crazy or really being thrown into this world of demons and circles of hell, while Stone is a dark prince who needs her to do his fathers bidding, while fighting the rising urge to protect and care for her. This was so much fun to read because as fantastic as Hope and Stone are, the many other characters are the perfect balance. I can't wait to read Vassago's book, but I think I am most excited for Lev's. But, thrush be told, I just want to find out what happens next in this dark underworld.
Beautifully heart-wrenching. Not only does this novel give an accurate portrayal into the mind of someone with real psychiatric issues, but it delves deeper. What if it really WAS all real? How would you know? Hope and Stone are truly a pair of star-crossed lovers from parallel worlds. Randi Cooley Wilson has once again drawn us in with her words and ability to weave a story that causes gut-wrenching emotion. The darkness permeates so completely through-out this novel, yet there is a bit of light helps to guide the way for the characters. The end is truly what got me, though, I think. A sacrifice made of complete unselfishness and in the name of love. (I am trying SO hard not to give away spoilers!!) Read this book, I promise you will NOT be disappointed!! I cannot wait for the next one!!
Holy Smokes, I cant say enough how amazing Randi is as an author. She all her books so far are most original. There are so many Paranormal books out there that have the same type of people. Angels, vampires, wolves, ect. Randi writes so differently the other authors and what you think the characters are going to do or how one would respond to certain situations, they do not. Which makes you feel more and more like you wrapped up into the books world and not even realize that you are at the end of the book. Hope accepts that she has mental issues and just wants to be normal and do what is expected of her. But fate brings her Stone. He is stuck in his way of life and stubborn to the core about how life is expected to be. But Hope shows him that just because of who he is doesnt mean that its a path he has to take.
Randi has always been a favorite of mine, a go to author that never disappoints. Just like Hope I was sucked into the realm of Stolas/Stone. He is both dark and light. Who wouldn't want a man with both qualities? The tension between them is both hot and heavenly. I was on the edge of my lounge chair throughout this book and certainly didn't want it to end. Hope is left believing that she has issues and not special powers. Was this all made up in her mind or was it real? Only time and maybe the next book it will be revealed to us. Just like Hope, I'm left wondering. Despite all of that Hope is a very strong women and I loved her quick wit and snarky comments. I pray the next book comes quickly but the devilish side of me snickers as I'm sure Randi is doing right now killing us with anticipation. LOL
~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~
This is only the second book that I have read by Randi, I can tell you that I am going to remedy that starting today. Stolas has a different feel to it all together. This was unlike any paranormal book that I have ever read. Stolas is the son of Lucifer. He will take over when Lucifer sees fit to 'retire', but there is one problem... Hope... she doesn't have any clue as to who or what she is. The only thing she knows is she see demons.
I couldn't put this book down. Not for one single second... I'm even guilty of reading this while brushing my teeth. I can't give you any more than holy hell you need to get this book. You definitely will love reading this book and then you will go out and get the other books that Randi has written. Cuz, that is what I am going to do!
Stolas is my first book by author Randi Cooley Wilson. I was fortunate for it to be the book I received in my November Bookworm Box. Having no clue who the writer was, I didn’t know whether it would be good or not. I first thought it was called Dark Soul Sexies series (look at corner of cover and see what you think at a glance) and honestly think it should have been called just that.
The thing I should say is that it can be considered a taboo book since it speaks of mental disorders and different levels of hell. What I think is if you enjoy books of demons, heaven/hell and strong characters then this book will offer you suspense, twists, chemistry, shockers and love. Once I started reading I didn’t stop until I finished. Just heads up though the ending will come out of left field and ready for next book.
Definitely an author I look forward to reading more from.
Everything seems to happen so quickly and then it's over. We're introduced to various characters and potential plot twists along with intrigue, sacrifice, and frenemies but nothing really major happens. The chemistry between Stolas and Hope is off the charts, it's a wonder they only act on their attraction a couple of times. Given that Stolas kidnapped Hope, it was a little curious how quickly she transitioned to a position of trust for him and his guards. Lucifer and Gabriel both make an appearance and there's genuine conflict in this book which is refreshing since authors sometimes manufacture it as a way to keep the characters apart until the inevitable conclusion. I was dissatisfied with how this book ended and won't continue with the next book.
This was a random book find. Easy read, an easy enough story to get through in one sitting. Nothing remarkable.
“Then it would seem as though I’ve chosen you. Of my own free will.”- Hope Of course she was drawn to him almost immediately (shocker 🙄)
“If I call your name, you’ll come to me.” “I’ll come to you.” “If I reach for you in my endless dreams, you’ll find me.” “I’ll find you.”
Of course she turns out to be his birthright. Again, not shocking. The ending? Of course he chooses to leave her to protect her (as if that ever works 🙄). Overall, a cute enough romance. Not sure if I’ll read the next book in the series.
“When others are around, we are nothing.” -Stone “Privately …you are quickly becoming everything.”- Stone

How amazing was this one... Pretty Great! After finishing this book, I can't wait until he utters that decision. I love how the characters are written, I love the strength they portray. The book deals with mental illness in such a beautiful way. I love the message about not judging ❤ Randi does it again. A story that makes you laugh, swoon, root for characters, hate others but yet still have complicity amongst characters who regularly would not. Getting to experience how everything works together to make this amazing story is completely worth it. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I will definitely re-read a few times. Oh, Chapter 15! 😈
Hope has been hearing and seeing demons and is literally driving her crazy. She has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is on constant suicide watch. But what if the things she is hearing and seeing are real? When she meets a guy and picks him her world is shattered and she must face the depths of hell. This was a great book which draws you in from the first page, highly enjoyable enjoyable read. It does have a very abrupt cliffhanger, I'll can't wait to read the next part once it comes out.
Loved it! Randi delivered what she always does, I was luckily enough to have chosen a name of a character in the book, she's a fallen devine and has been forced to live as human, Tazia has only just come into play at the end and I know the next book will bring out her personality a lot more and we should get to know her and hopefully love her. My only negative comment is I wanted it longer maybe a bigger build up to the epic romance, I think Hope needed more time to figure out who and what she was. Saying that I didn't put it down it was brilliant xx I
Stolas is a brooding beast who becomes an unlikely savior. Hope is his lifeline between two worlds. I loved the interaction between the lead and supporting characters. The world building was phenomenal. I felt like I was in the scenes. I was drawn in from the first word to the last and by the end I was left wondering if it was all just a dream. I really hope the next book in the series is not far behind. The author has managed to leave me stumped once again, but it's such sweet torture. If you haven't read this book yet, you really should! You won't be disappointed.
Although I may not be emotionally ready to review this book I will give it a shot. What an amazing read this was!!! Randi has a way of bringing so much emotion to her writing. I had no choice to take on the emotional stuggles that Stolas had as my own. There was so much tension and anxiety mixed in with the love and laughter. And the ending.......all I can say is....WHY??? I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I can't wait to dive into Vassago's story next. Well Done!!
I.LOVED.THIS.BOOK! I devoured it in one sitting and am impatiently waiting the next!
Stolas is the ultimate bad boy who has spent his whole life knowing that he will follow in his evil father's footsteps. What he didn't count on was a girl that jeopardizes that plan. His destiny will get in the way of his desires but sometimes doing bad things are for good reasons.
With every book Randi solidifies her status on my automatic-read-based-on-author-name-alone list!
