Cali thought the handsome stranger who kissed her was nothing but a mistake. But it turns out he could be the biggest payday of her life.
Cali has spent the last year of her life bending over backwards for the Devereaux brothers and she's had enough. But when she threatens to quit, she's given an offer she can't refuse: If she brings the third, estranged, Devereaux brother, Rourke, back to the family, she'll get a two million dollar reward.
Rourke Devereaux vowed he'd never have anything to do with his family again, but it's hard to remember that vow when the sexy blonde he never thought he'd see again comes knocking on his doorstep. Even after he hauls her over his shoulder to carry her back to the car, she's not ready to give up.
But as the two draw battle lines in his small, Maine coastal town, her old enemies pay them a visit. Now the one woman Rourke wanted to leave is under his protection and the longer he's with her, the more he realizes he doesn't want her going anywhere.
Mallory Crowe has lived in Michigan her whole life and has been in love with romance ever since she'd skip to the end of every novel, just to make sure the hero and heroine survived and ended up together. She lives with her husband and three dogs. When she's not writing, she's spending too much time in front of the TV, hiking, or working with various animal rescues.
I didn't care for Cali all that much. Luke, Michael, and Rourke were great but Colin, Easson, and Farrell just didn't make sense to me. Cali sleeping with Easson and after breaking up with him because he was a bad guy one week later professing love to Rourke. When Cali got weird about wanting a gun I started skimming. Not going to bother with any further in the series. Life is too short for three star books
The fourth book in the Devereaux Billionaires series by Mallory Crowe. Cali Carson leaves a party after finding out her boyfriend, Easson Harper, was just using her to get to the Devereaux brothers. But she meets a handsome stranger on her way out that leaves quite an impression. Rourke Devereaux came to New York City to see his brothers but decides to leave when he finds his brothers appear to be up to no good. But when Cali appears on his doorstep in Maine a few days later, he is determined that he is finished with his brothers for good now. But Cali has been tasked to bring Rourke back to NYC.
Rourke, the mysterious brother, finally makes an appearance and I think he was my favorite of all the brothers. We also learn why he left but I felt the issue was rushed. It was a good addition but the Thirteen Stars situation didn't seem like it was finished to me. But maybe I missed something.

REVIEW: TAMING ROURKE (originally titled TAMING THE BOSS) is the seventh installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY and the fourth installment in the Devereaux Billionaires romantic, suspense series. This is billionaire Rourke Devereaux, and PA Cali Carson’s story line. Taming the Boss can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and backstory I recommend reading the series in order as the story lines are interconnected and a number of the characters cross over between installments.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Cali and Rourke) TAMING ROURKE focuses on Cali-Luke Devereaux’s former personal assistant (whom we have met throughout the series)- and a woman wanted for questioning as to her involvement with a man named Easson Harper –a man hoping to destroy the Devereaux family. Cali was tired of playing the corporate monkey and decided it was time to walk away but found herself in the arms of the Devereaux prodigal son. Enter Rourke Devereaux, a man estranged from his family, and the man Cali will be tasked with bringing back into the Devereaux fold when they make her an offer she cannot refuse.
Rourke Devereaux has been estranged from his family for close to ten years and with it comes heartbreak and betrayal, and the loss of the family he once loved. Now a man who restores older homes, Rourke finds himself immediately attracted to his brother’s PA-the woman sent to bring Rourke home. The relationship is one of insta-lust to love although there is plenty of push and pull between our leading couple especially as it pertains to Cali’s safety-someone is hunting Cali, and the FBI is having a difficult time tracking him down. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top graphic language or text.
Most of the Devereaux siblings play secondary and supporting roles including Luke and his significant other Evelyn Price; Michael and his fiancé Lori Briggs; Emma Devereaux and Jace (by way of mention). We are introduced to billionaire Walter Farrell, and his right hand man Colin Carter. Colin’s story line will be told in RUTHLESS-the first installment in Mallory’s new spin off series Fractured Farrells-A Damaged Billionaire Series-as Colin goes in search of something he believes he is owed.
TAMING ROURKE is an entertaining and spirited story line with a little bit of mystery, suspense, romance and love. The premise is intriguing; the characters are energetic; the romance is a quick build to a happily ever after.
I was given a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is by far my favorite “Boss” book about the Devereaux family. Rourke is definitely my new #1 book boyfriend, and I would be highly jealous of Cali if I didn't like her so much! Luke and Michael want be bring their estranged brother Rourke back into the fold. It's not that they want him to help with running the business, they just want to be family again. Cali has reached the end of the line working as their top assistant. It's been ten years, and she wants to be appreciated more for her her education and skills, and she feels it's time to move on to a new employer. But when she goes to give her notice, they have one last job they want her to do for them: reunite them with their alienated brother, and they offer her a large sum of money to do it. Really big money – like, Cali will never have to work again if she doesn't want to. Rourke has been living an independent life in a small town in Maine, restoring old houses. The people there don't know he comes from money, and that's the way he likes it and wants to keep it. When Rourke and Cali meet, (at first by chance),the chemistry is so strong it's infectious. But while they are drawn to each other like magnets, Rourke has no interest in getting together with his brothers. Meanwhile, Cali's ex boyfriend, Easson, is wanted by the FBI, and there's evidence that he might be after Cali. This book is brimming with romance and hot sex and suspense. It's really pulls you in to the story, and doesn't let go. This is a minor thing but there's a character in Maine named Mary. She's in her sixties, and described as “...a natural beauty who probably didn't need much (makeup). Her long brown hair had silver strands mixed in, giving the hair an ethereal sheen, and even the emerging wrinkles around the corner of her eyes couldn't detract from her looks.” She's also a joyful person. On a personal note, as an older woman myself, it's so refreshing to hear Mary spoken of in this way. Most of the time, it seems to me, older people are written as fuddy-duddies or cranky, or waiting out their final years in a nursing home. It was so refreshing to hear about this older woman, beautiful and vibrant, and I commend the author on it. As far as the “T...ing the Boss” series go, I don't think this book would do well as a stand alone. It's at the tail end of a series of the last three or four books centered around the Devereax family and there's s lot of backstory that you miss without those. But it is still and excellent book and great conclusion to this section of the series. There's even an Epilogue at the end, tying up various loose ends in this family. One definitely worth reading!
Cali goes to a grand party with the elite of the city including her bosses, the Devereaux brothers. She is dressed to the nines in the dress bought by her boyfriend, Easson, who also bought the tickets to the fundraiser. She is trying to get out of the crowded room before she starts to cry. She has just found out that he is a criminal and has been using her to get close to her bosses, Michael and Luke. Easson has injured the FBI agent, Evelyn, who is Luke's love interest and so now he's on the run. While Cali is trying to get out of the place, she is approached by a very handsome man. They exchange words and he kisses her. She is overwhelmed and gives into his ardor. They almost get caught by two men leaving. The handsome man invites her to his room. She thanks him for talking with her, comes to her senses and leaves. Rourke is the Devereaux's youngest brother whom they have been trying to get back into the foal for about 10 years. Rourke knew who Cali was and had followed her out of the ballroom to get info on his brothers, but he had been derailed by her beauty. Colin Carter the security for Walter Farrell, the billionaire giving this soiree, knew who Rourke was and also knew he didn't have an invitation. So he asked him to leave.Rourke doesn't want a scene so he get's his coat and leaves. He felt he had found what he came for, to see if his brothers were worth saving. All his worst fears had been confirmed. Cali is angry with her bosses because she thinks they knew that Easson was a criminal the whole time he was dating her. She goes in to quit her job. This is when Evelyn explains that Luke had no knowledge of Easson's activities and that she didn't think that Cali was in any immediate danger. They show her the video of her kissing their brother, They promise her 2 million dollars if she can get him to come and talk to them. She asks for his address and promises to do her best. She goes to Rourke's hometown in Maine and knocks on his door. Rourke opened the door and said he had a feeling Cali would be knocking on his door. He felt she had changed from the warm woman he had kissed in the hallway into a corporate drone, Beautiful , but a drone none the less. He refused to go back to NY and speak with his brothers and asked Cali to leave his property. She refused saying she wasn't leaving until she had an adult conversation about what happened concerning their family. He tossed her over his shoulder and carried her to her car which was parked some distance away. He threatened to have her arrested if she came back. She jumps in her car and drives away heading for the nearest city to regroup because she was not giving up. While thinking of ways to humiliate him like he had done her, she heard a loud bang and the rental car careened off the road into a tree with car's rear end. She didn't move, then came another bang making her duck down. She was quiet for a while waiting for another bang to discern whether it was gunshots. She looked around for any kind of weapon. She had no bars on her phone, so she started walking.Rourke came driving down the road, picks her up and takes her to a bed and breakfast. There Cali told the owner that Rourke had made love to her invited her here, then put her out. The news spread around town, Everyone of the ladies was angry with him. He had his friend to go get her car and check it out to be repaired. He told Rourke that someone had shot the car tires. He went back to get her and took her back to his home. He had to protect her as long as she was in his vicinity. He liked Cali but he didn't want to. He couldn't stop thinking about her. They made love, but he said something dumb making her angry and humiliated even more. So she packed her things and went back to NY sending a text to the brothers that she had failed. When she finally gets home, she finds Rourke on her steps. He agrees to see his brothers so she can get her money and because he wants to protect her from the person that is shooting at her. He and Colin go looking for Easson leaving Cali alone. Walter Farrell calls her and invites her to his home to talk to her. When she gets there he doesn't answer her as she goes into the house. She has bad feeling and starts to leave but she's caught by Easson who has killed Walter Farrell. Rourke keeps calling Cali's phone to no answer, He has Colin to call Walter's phone. There's no answer; they know something is wrong. They go to the mansion and Colin kills Easson. This is a great read. I've left out many scenes. Cali is a real firecracker, get to know her.
This is my second time reading a book by Mallory Crowe and I really enjoyed the hot billionaires in her novels. I loved Rourke's character because he was your typical alpha male billionaire who wants to protect the girl that he is in love with, but at the same time he can be sweet and caring. Cali's character was kind of annoying because she was back and forth all the time and she seemed whiny at times. I did not really get Easson's, Colin's and Walter's characters because Mallory did not explain their roles and give us a better back story on them in this book, hence I would not suggest reading this novel as a stand alone because it can be very confusing. Mallory's writing was good , but I felt there was a lot of loop holes in the book for example we would like to know more about Cali's character and her past as well as more about the feud between Luke and Rourke. The chemistry between Rourke and Cali was explosive and really well written. Overall this was a good book if you love alpha male billionaires and love stories filled with a bit of danger.
Taming Rourke is not what you would think it’s full of love, sex and danger and Cali is just full of sass. When Cali meets Rourke on her way out of the party they make out in the corner after he notices her upset because her scum bag boyfriend was just using her to get to the Devereaux’s. Thankfully she found out before he had gone too far but now he is on the run. When her bosses contact her and offer her two million dollars to bring Rourke Home to them but Rourke tells her to get lost. When he finds her walking on the side of the road she neglects to tell him someone shot out her tires. Mallory is a new author for me and if the rest of the books are as good as this one you can count me in as a reader. I requested this book for free from the author and I have chosen to review it.
Cali works for the Devereaux family, but her boyfriend Easson turns out to be a murderer, so she feels betrayed because the brothers knew he was a bad guy, just not how bad. They do value her, and ask her to bring back their estranged brother, Rourke.
He lives in Maine, and has a grudge about an old flame who manipulated him and his brother Luke. Cali doesn’t give up when he wants her to leave, but her dangerous ex is actually what draws him back to New York to protect her.
I like Cali and Rourke, but the writing relies too much on the rest of the series, and some things are random. Colin is a major player in the end, but it’s never clear who he is or why Cali and Rourke trust him. Their insta love also seems too forced, and the pacing is off.
This is the 4th book in the series and a stand alone without a cliff hanger. They fall in love quickly then have to figure out if they can be together. Rourke's brothers send her to Maine to see if she can convince him to rejoin the family. There's $2 million in it for her, which is enough for her to never have to work again. She's honest with him about the money so he doesn't feel lied to. She's also in danger from her ex and he's trying to protect her.
I liked this sweet story which was about more than just a pay-off.
This was a suspenseful book. Cali and Rourke have a hot first meeting. Cali has had some bad luck with her last boyfriend and is leery of guys. Cali's last boyfriend, Easson, is in trouble and he keeps making sure that Cali knows he is watching her. Cali's bosses want her to go talk to Rourke, their long lost brother. Things get interesting when Cali and Rourke get together.
She was beyond upset when he found her. She didn't know who he was until his family came to her asking her to bring him back them. Great storyline. Rourke and Cali have great chemistry. There seems to be some back story that could be from book three but I'm not sure. Really enjoyable read.
This series is really growing on me. I have been looking forward to Rourke's book. It did not disappoint. Rourke and Casi were a great couple. Loved the bantering and chemistry these two have for one another. The action at the end felt a little rushed. I would have like to know more about what happened after. But a new character was introduce and I hope he gets a book.
I enjoyed the last book about the Devereaux family. I was a bit surprised at what caused the break between Roarke and the rest of the family. It didn’t seem like something that should take 10 years to discuss and get over. I am glad Cali and Roarke got their HEA, they seemed like a good fit.
Way to round out the series.Cali has decided that she needs to leave and start a new life, but when she finds out her boyfriend has been using her to get info about her bosses, that was enough. She gets kissed by a stranger and finds out it their long list brother Rourke. He thought the changed but now his kissed Cali and she's come to find him.
Loved the feistiness of Cali and the uber protectiveness of Rourke. I loved her spitfire attitude with Rourke and his brothers. But his way of shutting her up or seeing his way, very sexy!
Man this book was sexy. Some crazy ex and some hot brother's. Loved the attitude on her and the wits on him. Loved them together. Such a great read. Didn't want to give anything away in my review.
This is the first book of the series I read and I definitely feel like I missed something not reading the first three. I liked the romance itself, but everything else...not so much. Not sure I want to read the previous books because the brothers seemed like jerks based on how Cali was treated.
This series was awesome, I love the way Mallory brought this story line full circle starting with Tempting the Boss introducing us to Jace and Rosalyn and all of the Deveraux Brother's each with there on love interest. I so happy I bought the complete set and read them all.
Enjoyable read. Characters were interesting and engaging. Good storyline that flowed well. Romance between the main characters was built up nicely and the ending sets up for other characters to have their own stories.
I realise this is book 4 and i hadn’t read the others. Some sort of quick explanation of the back story would have been helpful. Was lost for most of it and the ending didn’t help with anything.
I enjoyed Taming Rourke enough that I'm going to pick up the rest of the series. Looking forward to reading more form this author. Highly recommend if you love billionaire romances with danger and suspense.
This was a good read! I thought it was entertaining and flowed well! The reason Rourke was estranged from his family was a little anticlimactic. The end felt rushed. But overall an enjoyable
Absolutely loved this book , think Mallory are one of my new must have Author books :) , busy reading the Farrells that followed up on this book. Do yourself a favor and read the Devereaux Billionaire series and follow it up Mallory your books are tops
I enjoyed reading about Cali. She is a strong resourceful funny character. Cali is having a bad time and trying to get through the event but runs into a strong handsome guy and decided to chat with and then ...kiss.. she thought she wouldn't see him again, What would she do when she runs into Rourke again?
Cali's and Rourke's relationship is entertaining to be a part of. The author keeps in hooked and racing to finish to see what happens next.
