A BEAVER CREEK HOLIDAY SPECIAL. (This book is NOT part of The Oregon Series, but many of the characters from the series are also in this book.) It's an 1850 Christmas in Beaver Creek, Oregon! It’s going to be a great Christmas! But not so for some… There’s going to be a wedding in a few weeks on Christmas Eve. Patrick Rayley wants none of it. His mama doesn’t need a husband. She has a job teaching school, and she has him. Parson Jacob is much too old for his mama, and besides, he doesn’t need or want a pa. His pa died, and he will never let another take his place! . The worst part is that Parson and Mama don't want him anymore. He heard 'em say so with his own ears. Meanwhile, down the road a piece, Jimmy’s pet goose Alfred has sorely tried his mama, and she has had enough. Unless Jimmy can change her mind, she plans to make poor Alfred part of Christmas dinner. Jimmy will do anything to save his beloved goose. Anything…. It takes a cold night in the woods by the creek for two run aways to learn some hard lessons in life.
Jacqueline Kimball (Jackie)is a Christian fiction author, and a member of American Christian Fiction Authors. She has three adult children, is a proud Nana, and a lifetime certified elementary teacher. She shares a home in northern Louisiana with her daughter and two spoiled dogs.
Jacqueline usually writes in her favorite genre, historical fiction. She loves to write both Christian historical and children's historical.
She has loved to read since first grade. Jacqueline says that she got in trouble countless times in grade school for reading books from the library shelf instead of her assigned work.In her freshman year of high school ,she was given a topic sentence and told to write an interesting paragraph. That night ,she went home and started to write the paragraph. To her surprise, she imagined a complete short story. She wrote a four page story in about fifteen minutes. From that day forward, she was hooked on writing.
A wholesome, heartwarming Christmas story about the love of family, community, and a boy for his goose. It transported me back to my childhood when books like Little House on the Prairie were all I ever wanted to read. A definite must-read for old and young alike.
Several times I about gave up on finishing this book. I kept reading, because one, I kept hoping that it would get better. Two, I wanted to complete the series. I felt that this book was more about the children, and learning some of life's lessons, than the historical romance, that I enjoy reading about.
