I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have to be honest, this book didn't grab me sadly. I like books that hook me in and I have to finish them as soon as possible, and this unfortunately wasn't one of those stories.
It is a typical YA story, Aleks and Yuri have played hockey together all through school, but then they get picked for different teams, and they suddenly find themselves about to be living a long way from one another.
Their emotions all come gushing out on their last night together, before leaving home, but neither quite knows how to deal with what happened.
It takes being away from one another for a while, and space to evaluate how they feel about one another, before they can explain their feelings to one another.

The following review may contain spoilers.

So, what can I say? This is the second book of Elaine Ashford that I have read. I did love Freshman Feint (still do), but I'll be honest and say that I loved Freshman Feint more than this. Nevertheless, this was one sweet, short story full of cliches and absolutely adorable naive, young characters.

Stretch Pass is a story of Yuri and Aleks, two best friends who got drafted by different Hockey teams. Before their complete separation from each other though, things happened and left them sort of hanging and longing and hoping. The incident was never spoken of again in fear of the other risking their friendship. They video chat every time they can get. However, Aleks' frequent accounts and anecdotes of his new team buddy, Brett, dwindles Yuri's hope and kindles jealousy. Misunderstandings and mixed signals hinder these two's hopeful relationship but eventually, we all know it's leading to a HEA. <3

Let me get this straight, too. I love cliches with slight twists and a hint of the author's own trademark ideas and plot twists and this book is a mix of all of them. Friends-to-lovers? Check. Jealousy? Check. Stubborn, prideful men who give each other misunderstandings and mixed signals? Check. The basic things I look for a sweet one are all here.

Now for the con. I love how the events mostly center and highlight the main problem of the story--their misunderstanding, and how the story gives short accounts of the other external, uncontrollable factors which give more justice to their problem. But sometimes I felt like the events are too fast-paced? Or that the story was too short to truly comprehend their bond as best friends and how they eventually fell in love with each other throughout the years of friendship.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for a sweet, short story with cute lovable characters, then this is a must-read.

The Stretch Pass is a YA contemporary M/M romance short story. It's about two best friends who are both drafted to NHL after spending years playing in the same teams. The MCs are realistic and story moves along swiftly as it has to in a 55 page short story..

Yuri is drafted to Seattle and Aleks is drafted by Quebec City, They are both ecstatic until they realize that this mean they are going to be so far from each other for the whole next year. During they last night together they end up in the same bed and something happens. They both seem to be really happy but then life happens and they don't have a chance to talk about what happens.. But they do stay friends and keep in contact until one of the thinks the other has a boyfriend.. Luckily they have a game against each others teams and misunderstandings get righted :) :)

Well This is my second book from Ms. Ashford and I can't be more happier about my decision to join her mailing list and start reviewing her books. Like her previous book Freshman Feint this book left me feeling warm and just glowing with happiness. And that's how I felt when reading the short story as well. This totally is going to be one of my fallback feelgood reads in the future. I know many of you have authoers whose books feel like coming home as you enjoy their writing style so much. Well I have to say I'm starting to feel like that with Ms. Ashford. I just love the feeling I get when immersing myself in her books :):)

Like the previous book reading Stretch Pass left me wanting to read so much more from this couple! OMG Elaine please I need to read more of these guys!!

Hockey playing best friends get drafted to different teams and they have a last night together where emotions overflow and things get a bit muddled.

Confused seems to be a theme for this book. Mainly MY confusion.

The writing is really confusing. (See? Confusing)
It seems rushed and unpolished, like it's been churned out far too quickly with no real thought, depth or development.
It reads like a first draft.
It just wasn't clear what was going on and the whole 'Rosy' thing had me reading the same few lines over and over again trying to work out what the hell was going on.
Also for some reason I had trouble separating Aleks and Yuri and often couldn't work out which one was which and who's was we were in. It didn't make for a wonderful reading experience...

What a tremendous story.

I love the story. The characters are so real so much more than words on a page. Like they come to life. Best friends who become loving partners despite what is keeping them apart. How like life.

This was short and sort of sweet but didn't have a lot of depth...but there's something there in the writing that makes me want to read the next ones to see if it gets better, more involved. Plus, I'm a sucker for all things GayJock.
