A paranormal category romance from Entangled's Covet imprint...
Wanting her was one thing. Keeping her was another...
Serenity Danssaert was already in way over her head. Not even her MI6 training or her powers as one of the seven Pleiades witches is going to save her sister. Then Alexi Jovec shows up. A secret operative working for unknown forces, he's impossibly sexy and dangerous...and the guy who bailed on Serenity after a red-hot, racy night.
So bonding to him as her destined--the One--is so very wrong.
While Alexi's need to own Serenity--body, soul, and beyond--is nearly unbearable, it's also forbidden. He's the last man who could ever be her destined. Besides, Hades's right-hand man cannot bond with a chosen Pleiades witch. He may be the one man who can protect her, but she can never be his to keep.

Serenity is one bad-ass ex-M16 Pleid witch with a feisty mouth to match. We were first introduced to her in the first book (Protecting His Witch) and I loved her instantly. She's a fantastic MC and her chemistry with Alexi was smoking hot. I lurved the romance in this book.
Alexi is a death-reaper and destined for a life of solitude. But he's been watching over Serenity for years and they share an undeniable connection. Hades may have told him he can't have her but fate seems to think otherwise.
This book was fast-paced and well-written, with a good blend of action, mystery, fantasy, and romance. Where I felt the first book was too focused on the romance and not enough on the plot and world-building, I didn't have the same issues here. Zoe got it bang-on this time.
Someone is trying to kill Serenity, and they have taken her sister hostage, so a large part of the story is tied up with Alexi and Serenity trying to unravel the mystery in time to save her sister. Toward the end, I started to suspect the truth, so it wasn't completely unexpected when it was revealed, but it was still a brilliant twist.
I loved the interaction with the other witches, and the fact that we got to see Kat and Matt again. I'd still like more of the witchy-stuff, but I presume this will be developed as the series progresses.
My only complaint - and it's minor - is that she seemed more interested in getting into Alexi's pants than she was in finding her kidnapped sister. There was a definite lack of urgency that wasn't realistic, but, hey, it's a work of fiction so I can overlook it.
Overall, this was a fantastic read and I look forward to continuing this series.
Actual rating 4.5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and Inkslinger PR for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This review will be posted on my blog on 16th November. http://myyanabookobsession.com
Zoe Forward has brought a good second instalment to her Keepers of the Veil series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Protecting His Witch so was eager to see how what His Witch to Keep held in store.
This time around, our dimension-hopping witch is Serenity, utilising her skills as both one of the Pleiades witches and former MI6 agent to save her kidnapped sister. Placing herself in dangerous situations means it’s not long before her protective one-night stand Alexi decides to involve himself and whilst the pull between them may be magnetic, it can never be anything more, because he's a death-reaper.
The tension between this couple burns from start and leads to some very heated moments amongst the fight, action and suspense of the overall story. I have to be honest and say it seemed to lack the paranormal feel the first book brought, but it was still an enjoyable well-paced read and I’m looking forward to seeing which of the seven sisters is next.
Copy received courtesy of Entangled Publishing via NetGalley for an honest and unbiased opinion.
One of the things I liked best about this book was how fantastically strong of a character Serenity is. She's powerful, brave, is able to take care of herself and even in the face of difficulties continues to put family and her destiny first.
Then there's Alexi. I think every woman that reads this (heck, some men probably as well) will be hoping for Alexi to become their protector--I mean, with his abilities and alpha protective personality he's virtually irresistible. And even with this, he still knows what his duty is and is prepared to follow it no matter what--even if that means giving up Serenity.
His Witch to Keep is filled with action, suspense and passion, and will have you madly flipping pages to find out how it all turns out. This is a great addition to the Keepers of the Veil series, and gives us a twist on the witch/druid matchup we expected after reading the first book (which, by the way, I would recommend you do before reading this one so you get a good background into this world and these characters). This continues to be an intriguing series with great characters and a compelling storyline, plus you get the story from both Serenity and Alexi's points of view-something I love since it gives the story more depth.
This was another 4-star read for me, and I can't wait for more in the series! Recommended for 18+ due to adult sexual content.
The book is an interesting angle on witches, druids and death reapers. All the rules that are usually not broken but should be. All the order of how things should be that need to be shaken up. The plot is fascinating with lots of intrigue, danger and passion. We also see two people trying not to fight the rules and losing. Even when they thought they were following order they weren’t.
Alexi holy batcave batman I love this death reaper. He is so protective of Serenity. It’s amazing because no matter what his heart says he fights it because he believes it is what is best for her and because of what he is. Alexi will grow on you as you see his sweet tender side but also his lethal side. He is dangerous but has this kind gentle side when it comes to Serenity. He tries to stay away but protect her as well. The guy is tied in knots over her and all he does for her will have you swoon. He is a lethal killer but when it comes to Serenity he is kind to her and helps those around her.
Serenity is feisty, stubborn and fun. she loves and is loyal to her friends and family. Her desire to help her sister and figure out Alexi and her feelings is admirable. She is trying hard not to fight the system as well. In the end I am glad she goes against the grain for her and Alexi are perfect together.
Serenity’s sister wow just wow. She is a spoiled brat who just deserves all that happens to her. this is a plot that you kind of had a feeling about but weren’t sure.
Eli love him. He is sweet, loving kind and wonderful. I hope we get to see a story on him. He deserves a mate and how Alexi kept saving him for Serenity and the understanding they come to at the end is great.
the story of Alexi and Serenity is dangerous, sweet and passionate. they have great banter and with all arguing there is passion and attraction. Alexi is always there for Serenity even if she doesn’t know it. When they come together there are fireworks and smoking hot intimacy. They work together when needed and respect each other as well.
this is a fun story with twists and turns about Alexi and Serenity and how they find each other. How they fight against their feelings to try to follow the rules but in the end love overpowers all. About how Alexi is always there for Serenity about betrayal of some around Serenity. A great love story with a neat take on witches, druids, death reapers and mates.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley from Entangled Publishing for an honest review. After receiving this ARC, I immediately read the first book in the series. Although you can easily read this story without it, I prefer to get the bigger picture of their world. Serenity and Alexi were introduced in Kat/Matt's book. From that book and the beginning of this, we know there's a lot of mystery around Alexi right off the bat - what is his supernatural ability, particularly why can he see Serenity when she's invisible? is he a double agent working as an assassin for the organization trying to kill the witches? why does he keep coming to Serenity's rescue? why did he leave her without a goodbye after their one night together a year ago?
I really liked the story being in Serenity and Alexi's points of view. We know his thoughts, struggles and vulnerabilities from the first page. He's complex, protective and troubled - all the right qualities for a dark alpha hero. Serenity has a good balance of strength and knowing when she needs to ask for help. They have amazing chemistry, work perfectly together as partners and have a complicated past where he's been protecting her for much longer than anyone realized. The mystery of the plot fell into place fairly quickly for me, but there were still several details that surprised me. How the author got us to the end was fast-paced and entertaining.
We get to see Kat, Matt and Bryce again. Eli has been friends with Serenity since college and he is also very protective of her. Even before we saw Alexi's brother, Nikolai, for the first time, I had in my mind he was a bad guy. Maybe that made it better, because I LOVED his character and his banter with Serenity and relationship with Alexi. Since he knows a witch who gave him a potion once and there's a witch named Jen who makes potions and was suddenly featured at the end... I'm hoping we see a book for them soon!
Zoe Forward does not disappoint with this second installment of the Keepers of the Veil series. His Witch to Keep may even prove to be better than the last. She nails that critical point within a series of where information on the background is too much and not enough and got it perfectly on the nail. So much so that this book can even be enjoyed as a stand alone read, but, enjoyed so much more after having read book 1, Protecting His Witch.
Serenity has all of the problems that come with being a Pleiades witch and then some. A former undercover agent with the fate of the world on her shoulders, she also has to deal with a kidnapped sister, and a lethal killer hot on her heals who she has the hots for is nothing more than another day in her life. That is until she continues getting slapped in the face by one big reveal after another, each one more shocking and more damning than the last. The one she simply can't wrap her head around is big, tall and extremely dangerous. When all signs point to him being the one, she can't possibly believe it to be true, especially after finding out that there are other God's at play, and he's descended from one of them.
Alexi has been stalking Serenity ever since their one night stand together, and not just because he wants to boink her again. His feelings run far deeper than that. Being taught all of his life that he is not the one in his family to be allowed to settle down with any woman, his soul purpose to be Hades right hand and nothing more, he has come to terms with that. Sort of. After all, he is only stalking her to insure her well-being. At least that's the lie he keeps telling himself. That's not even his biggest problem. The next victim on his list brings things far too close to home, and the ties are tightly connected to Serenity.
A love that was not made overnight and well worth the wait, a heroine that can most certainly hold her own, and two people who respect one another and neither trying to change the other. Non stop action from one page to the next with surprises and tons of fun along the way, His Witch to Keep is definitely a must read.
Serenity Danssaert is trying to save her sister on her own until Alexi Jovec shows up and while he may be sexy and dangerous, he bailed on her once before in this thrilling paranormal romance.
Alexi needs to own Serenity body and soul but it is forbidden and the reader can’t help but get drawn into this whirlwind romance as Alexi fights to keep Serenity alive while keeping a lid on their powerful desires. The chemistry between them is a sizzling pull that neither can deny but with their separate destines the relationship is doomed from the get go which leads to quite a bit of emotional turmoil amongst all the scorching passion. Strong, bewitching characters are easily related to as they capture the reader’s attentions and the fast paced, smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, action and romance.
Spine tingling tension and expectation builds throughout this story as the star crossed lovers try to discover who has Serenity’s sister before it is too late and excitement builds as the danger to Serenity escalates with assassins and betrayals keeping the characters on their toes and one step ahead of death...barely. The scenes and details are well written which brings the story to vibrant life and makes it easy for the reader to become completely ensnared as the intriguing events draw them in and refuse to let go.
Zoe Forward’s mix of myth, magic and fantasy into a fascinating paranormal world full of intrigue and captivating characters is a thrilling experience from beginning to end and Alexi and Serenity’s story has so much going on that there was no way I could put the story down once I started reading it and I can’t wait to find out whose story is next.
Two assassins going head-to-head and into bed? Yes, please! His Witch to Keep has the perfect combination of danger, intrigue, and a bit of magic. As one of the seven Pleiades witches, Serenity is being forced into risking her life to save her kidnapped sister. And who should show up but the very man assigned to kill her?
But Alexi isn’t everything he seems. He’s a death reaper, commanded by Hades himself to go after the most wicked and evil mortals on earth. From page two, I was drawn to this hero and couldn’t put the book down. The sexual tension between him and Serenity is off the charts and two characters with such stubborn tendencies and skills to kill, they absolutely explode on the page whenever they’re the same room together.
Zoe Forward’s writing pulls the reader in and refuses to let go. Very compelling, definitely sexy, and addictive. This second book in the series lives up to the first and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
A sizzling paranormal romance with an imaginative storyline!
"You don't have any weaknesses." "I have one." He glanced at her.
HIS WITCH TO KEEP by Zoe Forward is a bewitchingly hot second installment in the author's Keepers of the Veil series. I've always enjoyed stories that incorporate Greek mythology. Add in witches and I'm more than hooked! This is the story of former MI6 agent and Pleiades witch, Serenity Danssaert, and death reaper and demigod descendant, Alexi Jovec.
Both the hero and heroine were introduced in the previous book and I've been looking forward to reading their story ever since I read this series' thrilling debut novel, PROTECTING HIS WITCH. I am happy to report that I was not disappointed in the least. This book could be enjoyed as a standalone, but your enjoyment of HIS WITCH TO KEEP will be exponentially increased if you read this series in order.
I loved both of these characters! Both were strong-willed and excellent espionage agents. Trust was not something that either rendered easily. Their relationship was a fireworks show many times over. They have a long history.
From the moment Alexi had laid his eyes upon Serenity, he'd been mesmerized. As a death reaper, he was not privileged to have a mate. His existence was grim beyond words delivering souls to Hades at the god's whim; Serenity was the only bright spot in his world. He knew he could never have her, but he still vowed to protect her. However, now Serenity is not being herself. She's taking dangerous risks and Alexi needs to know why.
Serenity never wanted the responsibility of being a Pleiades witch nor has she ever been close to her sister. But her sister is the only family Serenity has left and now she's been kidnapped. Her sister's captors are calling the show. They are making insane demands of Serenity that are putting Serenity's life on the line. If it wasn't for Alexi stepping in, she'd already be dead. Her sister's captors have forbidden Serenity enlisting anyone's help, but even Serenity admits that she's in over her head. If she dies, her sister will take her place as one of the seven Pleiades. If both sisters die without giving birth to a female heir, their line will cease to exist which guarantees dire consequences for civilization.
This was a fast-paced, sexy tale teeming with humor, sizzling romance, mystery and suspense. The action sequences will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending blew me away as did many of the twists and turns through-out.
I was provided with a digital copy of His Witch To Keep and therefore I had to read all the books in the series, in order, to get the full bookish experience.
In my opinion, this second book in the Keeper of The Veil series is just as fascinating, romantic and fun as the first one. If you have read the first book before reading this one, you have met the main character before. She was presented as a badass girl and in this second book we get to meet her even more. I was glad to see that underneath that badass exterior she was a passionate, honest and loyal woman and that made me like her even more.
Moreover, we get to meet the mysterious Alexi, who has been protecting Serenity from the beginning. He's a death reaper and he's not allowed to have a family, but neither he or Serenity can't deny the chemistry and attraction between them.
The plot was not repetitive nor boring and the story is well-written with developed characters and unique moments between them. I was glad to see that other characters were involved in the series and that it was not awkward or strange having them interact with the main characters.
As a couple, I was just dying for these two to realize that they were meant for each other and when they did I just started fangirling a lot. That's one of the reasons I rated so high this book because it's not easy to make me fangirl over a couple.
Comparing the two books, I would say that the first book was more focused in explaining the world and interacting with the magic that the author wanted to have in this series. However, in this second book we barely see any magic.
I received this copy in exchange of an honest review and I just can't wait to read more books in this series!

His Witch to Keep is the second release in the Zoe Forward-penned Keepers of the Veil series and shifts the spotlight to Serenity Danssaert and Alexi Jovec, both of whom were introduced in the previous book, Protecting His Witch. The events here take place a few months after those in book one and while Serenity may no longer with MI6, she's taking on missions that are far too dangerous for Alexi's liking, forcing him to become involved in her affairs. They're both keeping certain secrets from one another, left with no other option. But the pull that's always been there appears to have grown even stronger after their one and only time together. Unfortunately, Pleiades witches are only bound to druid sentries, something that Alexi is not, so the odds appear to be against them. Add to that Alexi's actual job preventing him from ever being in any sort of relationship and their love affair appears to be doomed from the beginning. What follows next is both Serenity and Alexi trying--and failing--to keep their relationship purely professional.
Zoe Forward keeps the momentum going with this follow-up and I loved how this was a completely different story from the first one. There was a lot of intrigue and mystery involved here, and it could have a lot to do with the fact that Serenity is a former agent and Alexi is a known operative. Trying to figure out who's behind the plot to get rid of Serenity by any means possible was harder than I thought it would be and when the mastermind was revealed, I was floored. Aside from the mystery suspense aspect, we've also got two beings who, for all intents and purposes, shouldn't be together but are so perfectly suited to one another that you can't help but cheer them on to a happily-ever-after, even if it may end up not being sanctioned by the powers that be. Alexi's protectiveness was sweet and endearing, especially since Serenity was someone who could hold her own. I really liked these two together, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that book three will hopefully and finally be about Eli Morgan. His Witch to Keep gets five stars! ♥
His Witch To Keep is a twisting journey of special powers, magic, intrigue, mystery, and a romance between two people that goes against every rule either one has ever known.
Fro reasons known only to Alexi, he has been keeping tabs on Serenity. There is the obvious attraction, hell they spent one scorching night together that he’ll never forget. But they are forbidden to be together, he gets that but it doesn’t mean he has to like it or to stop watching over her – even from a distance if necessary.
Serenity is determined to rescue her kidnapped sister. She knows that this attempt is more than she has ever faced before. But she won’t back down not when her sister’s life is on the line. With Alexi’s help she can get answers and action – and perhaps the love of her life, if he ever explains why he left her so abruptly.
I enjoyed His Witch To Keep very much. Because of the plot twists and turns I don’t want to give much away. This is a couple that is destined to be together, even if they have to fight the fates to make it happen. The sparks between them fly off the page. The mystery and intrigue of this novel captures your imagination. You’ll want answers and maybe you’ll get some while even more questions are revealed.
This was one of those stories that I resented the time lost when I had to put it aside for real life. While this is the second novel in the Keepers of the Veil series, in my opinion you do not have to have read the first one before diving into His Witch To Keep. Of course, reading a series n order is always the best way to immerse yourself in their universe… but you could read this one and then backtrack to the first if it catches your interest.
If you love mystery, intrigue and a bit of magic mixed into your romantic reads, then His Witch To Keep should be on your reading list.
*I received an e-ARC of His Witch To Keep from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
His Witch to Keep by Zoe Forward is the 2nd book in her Keeper of the Veil series. I enjoyed the first book in this series, and couldn’t wait to read this one. I am happy to say that Zoe Forward gives us another fun, sexy and exciting book in His Witch to Keep. Though the theme resolves around the seven Pleiades witches, it reads very well as a standalone, but I do suggest you read the first book in this series.
Serenity Danssaert is our heroine in this book, and she is the toughest of the seven witches. Serenity has M16 training, and works undercover on some missions, not to mention has her own witch powers. Alexi Jovec seems to always be there to protect Serenity when she is in a bad spot, and the chemistry between them is hot as hell. Funny, since he works for Hades. :) Alexi also has his own powers, as he works for a god. Alexi and Serenity cannot resist each other, but both know any kind of long term relationship is forbidden.
Serenity’s sister is kidnapped, and she is forced to help those who have her sister with certain jobs. It is during these jobs, that Alexi comes to her rescue, and at the same time they must find out who is trying to kill Serenity.
Rather than give too much away, I will just say that this was an exciting story that was a fun read. I really enjoyed this book, and loved Serenity and Alexi together; their sex scenes were sizzling. I also enjoyed seeing the other witches together, as they try to help Serenity. So many more stories we can look forward to. Zoe Forward does an excellent job in keeping us on the edge of our seat with many twists, not to mention worrying about our couple, and if they would find a way to stay together. His Witch to Keep was a fast and fun read, which I suggest you don’t miss.
If you are reading this review I am going to assume that you have read the first book and I will write about things that happened in book one (though not much since this story can be read as stand alone).
We met Alexi and Serenity in the previous book called Protecting His Witch. Alexi is the man who saved the Pleiades close to the end of book #1 and is known that he has some kind of super power and a past with Serenity. Now we know that he works for Hades and that's the reason they can't be together. The thing is that the chemistry is very strong and Serenity needs protection in her mission of saving her sister.
I wanted to see a little more of Kat and Matt in this book. I ended Protecting his witch with the hope that I would see them appear frequently considering that Kat is a plaid like Serenity and Matt is the new chief for the lack of a better word. Maybe if a future book is Eli's I will see them, but who knows. I want Eli to get a book, but I am guessing that Nikolai is next. You have to keep the best for last, right? The poor guy is alone and he went through a lot in this book and I am rooting for his happy ending.
I liked the identity of the person who is threatening Liz (Serenity's sister). It was very unexpected and it gave a lot of points to the book.
The pace is good and fast without being abrupt, there is some angst and a lot of the I-want-you-but-I-can't-have-you thing. It was a good book to read when you are trying to relax or want something a little angst without the over the top drama. There is a kiss in the end, which normally would have made me go crazy, but I understood it and I don't think that it reflected negatively on my view of this book.
This is not a straightforward paranormal romance, it is so much more! It is a terrorist tale involving Pleiad witches, their protectors, MI6 and, of course, those terrorists they're endeavouring to counteract and capture, a riveting romance and action packed page turner.
There is a glossary at the start of the novel, explaining many of the terms used throughout the story. Serenity is one of the seven Pleiad witches, she's feisty, independent, an ex MI6 operative and she's currently trying to save her sister, Liz, from the terrorists who have kidnapped her. She's been told to tell no one but is repeatedly saved by Alexi Jovec, a death reaper who releases the souls of evil humans for his boss, the god Hades, to collect. He and Serenity have history but both know despite their mutual attraction that the gods from whom they are both descendants have never had a couple like them as destined mates, indeed reapers don't marry or have children whilst it is essential for Pleiad witches to have a least two daughters. Fighting their attraction, however needs to take a back seat as the two strive to save Liz - and keep themselves alive.
The story is full of mythological interactions, dramatic twists and turns, double dealing, difficulties knowing just who to trust and a potentially fatal betrayal. The characters are well portrayed and the story fast paced with many revelations along the way. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys their romance tempered by the hands of mythological gods and goddesses, terrorists and true love.
Thanks to the Author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Serenity Danssaert tries to save her sister by herself but is outgunned and over her head-what is she to do? Well sinfully handsome Alexi Jovec suddenly shows up to give her aid and to let her know just how she needs HIS help. Thing is, Alexi needs, craves desires beautiful Serenity BUT cannot tell her any of his wants or needs just yet if not ever. With Serenity being a witch and Alexi being on Hades's team , the odds are against them ever being together but Alexi is trying to find a way to keep his mate alive, keep them both alive . The electricity between them is so hot, that my kindle literally got hot reading this story. I felt for both of the MC because you could tell that they truly wanted to be with each other but didn’t know how to overlook the past, the forbidden rules . There is a past there between them that is awesome. I will say that Alexi has been watching over Serenity for way too longer, longer than he has let on to many. He is one ALPHA male loving his mate from afar and doing what he could to protect her. Serenity is the light, the strength and the beauty in this story-trying to save the darkness in Alexi. There are villains in this suspenseful paranormal romance and I definitely recommend—there are twists and turns that you wouldn’t expect. The MC here are wonderful and I cannot wait for book 3.
My Rating: 4.5 stars ****
***A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for my honest review****
This is book 2 in the Keepers of the Veil series and, although I haven't read Book 1, this in no way diminished my enjoyment of this book!
Serenity is doing jobs which she wouldn't usually do, on duff information, as she tries to cooperate with her sister's kidnappers and get her sister returned safely to her. Alexi is there but Serenity doesn't know if it is to help or hinder her, but the sparks are flying from the outset.
I loved how this was written from both perspectives. Serenity isn't just a "woe-is-me damsel in distress". She is a kick-ass alpha female who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to fight for it. Alexi I loved - he has a darkness within him that is not surprising considering his 'job' but his love for Serenity shone through, even if he wouldn't admit to it out loud.
Full of action and a twist that you may or may not see coming, this is a hot and fiery story that will definitely leave you wanting more. I am off to look for book 1 and also see when book 3 is due out. I do hope that Nikolai gets his story told as the banter between him and Serenity allowed you to see more of his character than what he usually allowed his brother to see. Definitely recommended.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *
Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Nov 9, 2015
I did not get to read the first book in this series before I read this one, but I can say that I was not lost in this one. Zoe Forward does a great job of making this a stand alone. I thought that this one was very good. Lots of suspense and pretty fast paced. Kept you engrossed in the story and wanting to know what was going to happen.
When we first meet Serenity, she is in the middle of trying to save her sister. We soon find out that she is in a bit over her head and needs help. Although Serenity's character is very strong and independent, she just needs a little extra help to get out of the situation she has gotten herself into. When Alexi comes along, one of her old one night stands, Serenity does not want anything to do with him at first. The banter between these two was pretty funny through the story. I like that Serenity sort of played hard to get with Alexi this time.
With Serenity being a witch and Alexi being on Hades's team, will these two be able to overcome the odds that they are not supposed to be together and find true love? This one had some steamy romance in it as well. The mixture of romance, suspense, supernatural aspects and action all came together to make this a great read. I can't wait for more in this series.
So far my absolute favorite of the series! I have read this book three times since I got it.
I ADORE the relationship and the byplay between Serenity and Alex. The cuteness, the teasing, the trust, the absolute certainty that when one is in need the other is there. Neither of them ever had that with anyone else; not growing up or as they worked in their respective spy careers. And definitely never as descendants of Greek deities in a modern world that no longer believes and simply cannot comprehend the abilities they have been blessed (or cursed) with. Even their family can never understand what they, as the eldest in their respective lines, are tasked with and the responsibilities they bear.
No one else is capable of seeing them in the same light as they see the other and that is the basis of everything between them. They both have come to realize that with the other, and only them out of all the people in this or that reality, can they truly be themselves. Truly be free to let down their guard and just be. Eventually they realize how truly blessed they are to have found that someone and that fighting for what you want and the love you actually do deserve is worth taking all the chances you have!
A little Greek mythology, Magick, and a whole lot of action this book captivated my imagination.
Sometimes the things in life you think are bad for you are the most fun to achieve. Serenity has a destiny and Alexi is not part of it. They both have predestined mates but what neither knows is that sometimes it's not who you think it will be.
With Alexi being an assassin and one who must from Hades clutches, all he can do is protect Serenity without revealing to much of who he is and what he must do. She is destined to follow her Pleiades goddess and marry a Druid sentry or such. Alexi and Serenity had worked together and had even been ordered to kill each other yet he protects her and has for a very long time. Longer than she knew. Now, he must help protect her while multiple hits are put on her life.
Can they keep their attraction separated from the attraction that keeps calling to them? Read and find out. Fast moving, action filled romance that will keep you on your toes.
Read the first one in this series and loved it so just had to open this one. This author knows how to weave you in with the magic of her writing. Serenity is the one here who has alot to face even with her abilities. Then there is Alexi whom you will eat right up. Plus they have met before. He works for a different area and he has been watching her quite awhile now. They both have things that are special about them and together they will explode. Your heart will race for them especially when he thinks he can not have forever. Threats must be stopped and that too will keep you on the edge of your seat or where ever you read from. I do so love when a author though can take and put love in charge because it can go against all odds and overcome mountains, foes or rules. High level of action for those that crave it with your romance. But through it all she will give you what you crave and want with this one especially since love sees the inside and she will give you a ending for them that will etch a satisfied smile.
5 stars ****WARNING THIS BOOK CONTAINS ADULT SITUATIONS*****
Alexi is the best assassin anyone has ever known. Serenity is a witch whose blood line is rare. All the rule’s say Serenity is supposed to bond with a druid, the protectors. The problem with this is she wants Alexi with everything she has. Now the price on Serenity’s head is so great everyone is out to kill her. The only one that can keep her alive is Alexi. Alexi has rules of his own. One of them being to live a long life alone. Serenity’s going to mess this all up, because they can’t seem to stay away from her. Will Alexi be able to keep her alive, then walk away? Will Serenity walk away from it all with a broken heart and no bond to continue her line?
This story was truly amazing. I love the back and forth between the characters. This was a fast paced story, with everything that makes a great paranormal story. With Witches the Mafia, and some Greek gods. This story is a uniquely amazing mix.
Serenity is desperate for save her sister, but a sexy dangerous secret agent doesn't make things any easier. When we first encounter these two we discover they shared passion (and a bed) in the past but he walked out on her and left her alone. Now he is the only one who can help her to find her sister and save her life.
The book is a mix of action, passion, and intrigue. The chemistry between the two main characters is off the charts. It's clear they are attracted to each other but given that she is a witch and he is Hades's right-hand, things for them are not easy. The tension is always present, the fire is palpable and of course when they finally get down to business is HOT.
I liked that the book is part of a bigger universe so we get to see characters we already know from the previous book. The mythology is well used and the plot is solid. I really enjoy some twist and revelations, they were quite shocking.
As all Zoe's books this one is well written, the passing is fast and the scenes have a natural transition. I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

When the going gets tough, use whatever is at your disposal to get what you want.
So bonding to him as her destined—the One—is so very wrong. While Alexi’s need to own Serenity—body, soul, and beyond—is nearly unbearable, it's also forbidden. He's the last man who could ever be her destined. Besides, Hades's right-hand man cannot bond with a chosen Pleiades witch. He may be the one man who can protect her, but she can never be his to keep. (Amazon Blurb) Although she can be considered as one of the strongest with her military and her magical training, Serenity still doesn’t have what it takes to save her sister, but the one man who hurt her long ago when he disappeared, Alexi is the one man capable of helping her getting in and out safely out of dangerous situations. Before having had the chance to read this novel, I regretfully never heard about the library written by Zoe Forward, and it saddens me – why? Because honestly, she has interesting storylines and writes in such a way that you feel as though you can’t look away from the page from fear of missing a part, almost like a movie – blink and you’ll miss a key part in the movie. I applaud this author for adding something new to a witch/assassin based paranormal genre that absolutely attracts interest and especially entrances you to a point where at the last page the only thing you wonder is ‘already?’, never knowing where the time went. I recommend this book for any fan of the paranormal genre and those looking for something new to add to their libraries and to read lists.

His Witch to Keepis the second book in Zoe Forward's Keepers of the Veil series, however it works well as a standalone. The author does a great job of giving important details of events that occurred previously in her supernatural world and they are interspersed in the narrative instead of being one giant recap.
Serenity and Alexi are a hot couple with a bond that neither can deny...literally. They have an accidental paranormal bonding that keeps them connected with each other even though they should not be mates. Alexi's attraction to Serenity began long before their one night stand and he has been following and protecting her ever since, making this a heart-wrenching tale of unrequited love. There are some very sexy love scenes when these two do get together again.
The pacing of this book is nice. The story develops at points that make you want to read more and more, action-packed start to strong satisfying finish.
Cons: This was my first book from the series and it is a bit of a whirlwind genre mash-up for me. Paranormal, rooted in Greek mythology, with a suspense storyline and a major amount of espionage. Serenity is a Pleiadian witch who is supposed to bond with a Druid Sentry to give birth to a Death Reaper, but she used to work for MI-6 and is taking on freelance jobs to save her sister who was kidnapped so that the bad guys could get to Serenity. Alexi is an assassin that works for Hades and takes a vow to protect her when he realizes what she is. Yet they are both technically human. Despite the heavy supernatural details, there are more gunfights and torture scenes than displays of actual power. For me, the effort to keep up distracted from the main plot.
I would recommend this book to those who really like to follow a complicated storyline. While I liked it, it is not a quick, leisurely read.
