Tom Veitch was an American writer, known for his work in the comic book industry. He was also a novelist and a poet. He was the brother of comics writer and artist Rick Veitch.
I really am loving the dark-humored Krath magicians! They're fun. I was interested to discover that engines are made from carbonate. Arca's Jedi team fascinates me, especially the eyeless Miralukan and the horse-like Nazzar. Seeing Exar Kun beating Vodo for the first time was intense!
There are numerous reasons why this is landing at 2-stars for me.
1. Trying to do too much in a single issue.
The introduction of 5+ brand new characters, in both the opening credits reel and also within the panels themselves... it is just too much. 1-3 new characters, sure. But 4 or more... I am not a fan. A slow trickle with introduced depth as they enter the scene(s), making the reader have more buy-in and level of care is a much more effective delivery.
2. This hard leans way too hard into fantasy than sci-fi, where magic has no limit or consequences.
Magic Sorcery is through the roof in this one. Which isn't a bad thing at its core... it's just not what I come to Star Wars for. We are talking Illusion Wizardry here where swords turn into snakes and Witches snap their fingers and their target spontaneously combusts. It feels like any sort of ruleset has been thrown at the window here and the Sith Sorcerers in this can literally do whatever the writer can conjure up at will.
3. The artwork and writing itself simply isn't good.
Mediocre at best.

There's one positive remark I can say about this... we get some lore/backstory of Exar Kun in this. So far, this is the one thing this comic book series thus far has going for it.
This is my third series now of this era of Star Wars, with The Golden Age of the Sith and The Fall of the Sith Empire being to the left of this. Based off the 1st issue here... this is by far the absolute worst, with the two previous series being 4's and 5 star comics across the board. True excellence. That's what makes this issue extra painful.
The story - 3, maybe more, quite interesting! Characters: promising, would like to know more about them, but alas! 2. Dialogues - 1, wooden and pompatic.
