Nuclear War Club: Seven high school students are in detention when Nuclear War explodes.Game on, they are on their own

Rate this book
Seven California High School Seniors were in detention when the lights went out, the ceiling collapsed, and they were trapped in overturned desks and the debris. They struggled in the cave like darkness of the basement classroom, choking on the dust. This was not an earthquake, but a Nuclear Attack. David Phelps swallowed his panic. He knew they would have to work together to escape from the rubble. Then they would have to shelter for fourteen days to survive the fallout. He struggled to remember what his Dad, an Air Force Officer, had taught him about Nuclear War. If, as he feared, their parents were dead, then they should trek east. Hopefully they would stay together. David was disappointed with this dysfunctional group. But you go to Nuclear War with the survivors you have, he realized. They would have to adapt, improvise, and overcome.Or die. They did not know, or like, each other. The teenagers were together only because they had been sentenced to detention.Everything suddenly changed when they rescued a four year old orphan and his dog. Now they were the parents. Seven teenagers, on seven different paths, are thrown together despite their cultural and religious differences that they thought never mattered. They must make not only survival decisions, but spiritual choices as they struggle against an enemy who demands either religious conversion, or beheading. This is an incredible journey of survival, and personal choice. They became the Nuclear War Club.

Great story but had issues

Great book but need to do some editing before hand. There were dialogs where it kept saying the same persons name when u could tell they were talking with another person and not with themselves. Also after zeke left and before he came back zeke said he'd go get something in recon but wasn't there. Tires were blown out but not mentioned that they were changed or found a new truck. Just kinda frustrating. But great story line.

Fantastic

This was a different book for me to read. It was well put together and it showed how these teenagers had to grow up . The teens did a great job of doing the things they needed to do to stay alive. I will not spoil this book for you to read. I recommend any age could read this book and those who are in to this style of stories.

Was an entertaining , fast paced read but had some editing issues. For example, author used the word husband instead of wife; called one character by another characters name, etc. Other than that it was fun to read.

A pleasant surprise!

Like many of the books I obtain, this one was free so I did not have high expectations but this was a wonderful story. A plausible plot, great character development and a bittersweet ending. Very well done!

The saga of 7 high school students fleeing a radio-active California to Alabama, through a number of firefights with ISIS-like green men or just thugs. This book does contain some useful advice about surviving thermonuclear war if you fancy this.

It is also an occasion for the author to distill some quiet fundamentalist christian, survivalist and alt-right views. We are given a global "us against them"description of the world, where quite a few nations seem to be itching at launching nuclear rockets at the US. A President "disgraced his office by asking for UN negotiations"... NRA must have approved the presence of guns at all pages, and the teenagers in the story naturally won't have sex before marriage. There is even an angel-like soldier miraculously appearing at a life or death moment. The book ends with a description of a new America rebuilt around off-city areas centered on pioneer values, pick-up trucks, horses, guns and more guns.

Wow!

I cannot truly put into words just how much I enjoyed reading this book. I was not sure at first since it was about teenagers. I was so wrong! It is an intricate story about survival . The characters are so real, and for those of us who work with teens, yes, they really are very smart. They have grown up with the entire world of knowledge at their fingertips. I hope to read many more stories by this author and thank you for reminding all of us that without God there is no survival.

I really tried to like this book.

The idea was good, the set-up was good. However, one-third into the book character development stopped by the halfway mark the author lost all concepts of realistic reactions from his characters and ***********************spoiler alerts***************************

Turned these kids into a military team with no corresponding character development. Came off as slapdash, prepper instructions and I was seriously disappointed. The 2 stars are for the idea, and initial success in the first 25% of the book.

Love This Book!!!

I have read many many books, too many to even begin to put a number to, but this is up amongst the best. It speaks so strongly of the power we have to overcome all obstacles before us. There is strength when it seems like all is lost. There is forgiveness when one may not deserve it and there is love when one knows it's not deserved. Such a great read. I surely hope there are more books to come because this story is far from over for the Nuclear War Club. This is a must read. I cannot wait to share it with my grandchildren.

This is a great read! Totally engaging! A group of teens in a school basement for detention survive a nuclear attack. Following David's advice, they load up what supplies they can gather and seek shelter in the sewers until the fist 2 dangerous weeks have passed. They pool their knowledge and skills when they leave their shelter to begin their search for a safe place to be. Great characters who face their situations realistically. This book is a tight ride and a totally satisfying read!

Not too graphic

This was entertaining, useful fiction. I recommend this for those interested in a post nuclear war setting without the Gore. It may be appropriate for those 12 years old or older if a parent read it first. There may be a sequel but the story has an acceptable conclusion.

I really enjoyed this Book.

These Characters are very well developed for being teenagers. Made me think about what we are not teaching our kids. Like basic survival skills. And what to do in case of an emergency. Great story!

First class survival story

I guess none of us give enough credit to younger folk or maybe even to some friends. What would we do in the same situation? This story gave me hope for a better future should TSHTF . I loved the characters and how life adapted.
