Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

the motivation for the villain was weak and kind of required suspension of disbelief, also there was a missed opportunity for seeing the irony in his quest by him starting to die the same as the gods in the end, but all in all this was an entertaining arc

I was wavering between 3 and 4 stars here, because there's a lot of good stuff that I really did like - I think this is my favourite of the Godbomb collection. I'm trying not to give spoilers, but I liked the way in which Gorr's bomb manifested itself (outside of the merely destructive). I liked that it ended on a quiet note, with Thor keeping a promise to a small believer. I liked that the gods found something to pray for, though of course their own prayers were entirely self-centred. I didn't like that the idea of the god-who-doubts seemed to be dropped, though I'm not surprised given the lack of focus on mirror images after Gorr lost an eye in the last issue. And I don't care at all about the shrinking of the bomb into a stupidly named sword that I hope (but don't believe) will never appear again, because the constant focus on weaponry does seem to get in the way of the types of story that I prefer.

The conclusion to this first year-long arc on Thor: God of Thunder is a satisfying ending to a most epic story.

This first arc shaped the rest of Aaron's run on the character. It's impact was certainly influential. The last Thor movie took most of its story threads from this arc alone.

I don't know what it is, but this arc doesn't feel as strong as the first one.

Very excellent conclusion. Each thor's characters and personalities really shine here. The narration really makes this story feel like an ancient story and is very well placed through out they story. the over arching theme of this story is is there a place for thor (and thusly other gods) in this universe and what is their point. was pleasantly surprised how the conclusion leaves this question open and yet concludes it by having thor finally answer a prayer which set this story in motion. My favorite part was when all the god prayed for thor.

⚡ Issue #11 – “The First Strike”

Thor attempts to intercept Gorr mid-murder, but Gorr’s cunning and omnipresence make this task nearly impossible. The tension is relentless, and the issue plays with fear, helplessness, and moral responsibility. We see Thor’s frustration at being unable to save everyone, which humanizes him despite his godly status. Ribic’s art shows massive scale while keeping emotional beats intimate — the young, present, and future Thors all feel distinct yet connected.

With the first few issues (slow start) I was worried this would not be a good classic Thor epic; after reading this conclusion however, I was pleasantly surprised! Actually, reflecting on the entire story arc, I'm kind of blown away at how Jason Aaron deftly brought all the subplots to a climatic close! Esad Ribic paints a perfect mood and setting. Over all it was worth the investment. Thumbs up!
