Great book! For all fans of the tv series (season one mainly) this book is a must have. If you ever wondered if there’s more to the story and also if you wanted to known more about any background stories then this is the right book for you. Would read it again at any time
Exciting race for a group of boys, thrown together on a school trip out in the bush. The book starts like "Tomorrow when the war began" - a group of young people find their home life changes after a trip to the bush - but after that, the similarities stop. What is going on? Why can't they get home? Is it science or magic?
The plot was really fascinating. Andy, Felix, Sam & Jake when returned after spending a night lost in forest, nobody recognized them. How did they end up in the forest? How did they get back to their real world?
🌷TAKEAWAYS: When the four of them returned, they discovered that they were in an another world, where everything else was same except that they didn't exist. It was so heart breaking for them to know how their absence doesn't matter to those who they care the most about.
The boys, when didn't have anything to eat & anywhere to live, missed all those things that they used to complain about. Now being helpless, they just wanted to get back. They were missing their annoying siblings, caring friends, affectionate family. They realized how much lil things matter in life. How blessed they were.
Friendship. Unexpected friendships.. that happens sometimes.. I like those Sometimes, somebody, whom we don't like initially, when we get to know them, we learn their side of the story and end up loving them.
Teamwork. We always need other people to work something out. No matter how good we are, we need those who are best at the desired task to do it for us. Individually, we can't get what we aspire.
I watched (and was thoroughly obsessed over) the TV series before I read this book adaption. The show is excellent and incredibly original, and I love everything about it. The book was not quite as good.
A lot of details were mismatched, and there were scenes missing that were in the show as well as scenes fabricated by the author. I think that the book had less mystery than the show, as we find out quite early on the truth behind the boys' situation, and that the book's POVs were unevenly divided between the characters, making Felix seem more like the lead.
Overall the book is highly enjoyable and easy to read, but there were some grammar errors and room for more detail. It seems unlikely that there will be second book for the second season, as the ending was different in the book to the show and could complicate things, but who knows.
It was very interesting seeing a fresh perspective on the adventures of the four boys, and for fans of the show seeking more it is certainly worth a read.
I watched the series and read the book simultaneously and reading it really helped understanding their (most of all Felix's) emotions more clearly through the story. Of course the storyline was not exactly the same, since the reader can kind of guess what the "real cause" [those who either watched the complete series or those who began the book will understand] behind their situation is, but the suspense is still present.
What I found really interesting was that I (as a reader) could see the different reactions and feelings of the boys in front of this problem through the four POV's of each 'Nowhere Boy'.
I think the book is more suitable for young teenagers (Maybe also YA) but since I also enjoy reading those, I loved this book (and of course the series [+ the actors *wink*])!
I picked this up at the library, without having watched the children's TV series. I thought the details were glossed over and the book could have done with having a lot more detail to it, but as the story progressed the depth of detail seemed to improve slightly. This was a really good idea, possibly one that would have been better suited to a series rather than a stand alone novel. Because it was only one novel I didn't think there was as much character development as there could have been; I felt like I knew more about Felix and his motivations than any of the other characters.
This is definitely a book for people who have already seen the show, as there aren't many descriptions of things, but I still really enjoyed it. I did find it strange how some things were changed from the show to the book, even though it would have been easier to keep it original. The plot was fast paced and I really liked the characters and their evolutions, especially Jake’s. It has really made me want to rewatch season 2 now, which is sad since I don’t have access to it. Sad tears.
What would you do if you found yourself in a world where you are not supposed to exist? Where your own parents don't remember you? That's what happens to Felix, Sam, Andy, and Jake. And as if that weren't enough, a demon is hunting them down. This is a fun book full of adventure and endearing characters who must learn to understand their new world and, maybe more importantly, eachother.
The nostalgia from this book. I loved the tv series and the way it was done was so clever. Yet the book seemed to move too fast. It didn’t build up enough. I always loved the concept of people relating to elements and thought that did it well in this book and show. I also liked how we know that Felix is a witch - yet he is not a very good one.
Loved the start.but as it went on it became more and more odd and paranormal and totally lost me. Skipped a big chunk. The characters in the book are great. The whole premise just lost me sadly!
I liked this book but there was a lot about it that didn't make a sense. I found out at the end of the book that it was actually based on the tv show and I was very disappointed about that.
I read this last year and I have to say, I really liked it, it ties well into the show and you can get a little more in-depth with the boys emotions and all of the things that were going on around the town when they were in the other world.
It really just is a good way to see more into the motives to the boys actions (mainly Felix I feel), seeing things that would have happened off screen and in their days that weren’t shown in Bremin!
I have had an emotional connection to the boys since I watched the show air when I was just leaving primary, and being able to read more about them and the little details that went into the scripts and the thought behind their emotions and thoughts was something special for me!
I really liked this book, it goes more into the creative aspect of an author's imagination. The beginning starts off a bit boring but towards the end it made me never want to put down my book.
The book is definitely better than the tv series in my humble opinion. Ngl, once i found out they were Australian, and gave them accents in my head, it kinda made me cringe a bit..(iykwim).
good book though, will probably read again :)
Edit: just watched Season 1 + 2 again and honestly it was cringe but in a good way, like it was so dumb but pretty good, so yeah i'm deffo gonna read the book again :]
A little ambivalent about this one. It was quite readable (read it on the train over the weekend to & from the Open House, Rare Books, etc. things going on), however I'm not a huge fan of the magical. I had thought it may have been more of a 'slipped through a crack in time' or parallel universe kind of story, which would have been more to my taste. I believe this was a very popular TV series last year on the ABC (which came first, the book or the show?) and the book certainly flags that this is not the last we will hear of these boys & the demon that's after them
