Back of the Book A man was sitting with his friends in a local inn. After a couple of drinks, he asked his friends, `Do. You love me?" "Of course, we do," they replied. "So do you know what I need?" No one answered. If you don't know what I need then how can you say you love me?" To love and to be loved is the most basic human need. No wonder we are attracted to people who give us attention, care about us, and love us. Yet, love also remains the greatest challenge in most relationships. Why? A Fistful of Love is a collection of insightful, thought-provoking nuggets of wisdom appreciated by millions around the world. This book is full of humour and narratives most beautifully woven into 'earnings of life that will make you stop and think. About the Author Om Swami is a mystic living in the Himalayan foothills. He has a bachelors degree in business and an MBA from Sydney, Australia. Prior to his renunciation of this world, he founded and ran a multimillion dollar software company successfully. He is the bestselling author of The Ancient Science of Mantras, An Untold Story, A Million Thoughts and if truth be told A monks Memoir. Foreword Once upon a time, Buddha was walking along a riverside with nine of his disciples. In his quiet and graceful manner, the sage was talking to Ananda about mindfulness when suddenly almost all the monks stopped in their tracks and looked the other way, across the river, in great awe. A yogi was crossing the waters and coming towards them. Ordinarily, this would not have been a distracting sight. Especially, considering that Buddha was delivering a sermon on mindfulness. This yogi, however, was not crossing the river in a boat; he wasn't even swimming across; he was simply walking on water.

Great book that talks about the philosophy of love. It really helps you understand the author’s ideas of the foundation of love, why people do certain actions and how to view questions that maybe we’ve wondered or asked ourselves. Filled with many short stories to help the reader understand certain concepts. Each chapter has its own topic, idea or question it tackles. Definitely a book worth checking out.
The author focuses on relationships throughout the book. Each chapter has a thesis, explanation, story, and action. Each story has a beginning (what is), a middle (what could be), and an end (possible situation interpretations). The action summary proposed behavioral changes. Swami does an excellent job illustrating how behavior and choices have consequences for the individual and others within their relationship circle. There are no epiphany moments but a string of common sense ideas from an eastern philosophical perspective. This is not a read cover-to-cover book. Although there is a common theme, transitions between chapters are nonexistent. Like a book of fairy tales, each chapter is an independent fable.
I received this book from Virtual Author Book Tours. As part of their August to October promotional tour, I was asked to provide an honest and balanced review for the book. The opinions expressed here are my own.
Starting with an interesting tale of Gautam Buddha and his disciples, Om Swami illustrates just how easy it is for us humans to overlook years of love, care, and attention from loved ones for just a few fleeting moments of validation from others.
He compels you to ponder over the meaning of life, the direction you are headed in, and the true worth of your goals.
A Fistful of Love, all of 214 pages, comprises of around 50 small essays whose topics range from love, attachment, marital relationships, problems and inconveniences, kindness, love language, human desires, cheating in relationships, marriage and its truths, desires, and its DNA, personal fulfillment, destiny and free will, tolerance, eternal truth, faith, realization, etc.
Told with anecdotes, doses of humor and quotes from renowned experts, this is a nice collection of thoughts on becoming a better person and having a more enjoyable life experience.
Each chapter is not a long read, but one builds upon another to give the reader a solid foundation.
I am no one to write a review to the enlighted one, I just take opportunity to collect drop of wisdom from the ocean swami ji has... I bow to him and his knowledge...
Not sure why but I really love books like this. I love looking at life through another's eyes. I love learning about other people's philosophy and view on life and everything in it. This was a no-brainer for me to pick up and read.
I am so glad I read this. This was awesome and I loved it! Lots of wisdom, but it had humor too which made me really like the author. The author seems so wise but also so down-to-earth that the words on the page really struck a chord with me.
I soaked this book up and all of the pages. The author was honest and made amazing points. Sure there were a couple of points where I had my own opinion and might not change my viewpoint, but it gave me a chance to see something different.
I think the quote that really struck me was:
"Life does not know what you want. It only sees what you do. And even if it could understand what you want from it, it is too unattached, too wise, to take you seriously. Have you ever noticed how a split second flies? This is the life we dearly hold, protect, cherish, and cling to for decades."
Life waits for no one.
The little anecdotes made the points really shine. Also, I really think the format and organization of the book made it better.
In the end, this was a wonderful book. I really connected with this book on a lot of levels and just reading it gave me a sense of calm. The sprinkles of humor made this even better. In a way it symbolized how you should live your life....yes, take it seriously but you need to have some laughs and good stories too. Highly recommended. This gets the shiny 5 star stamp.
This book has been a very interesting book. I have enjoyed all the tidbits of wisdom that the author had to share. I like how it was a collection of short stories all woven into one book to have you learn how to be a better person in your own way as you read. I also liked how the author threw in some bits of humor. This book is also thought provoking without being too heavy. I will being going back and reading this book again and again. This was the first book I have read by this author and I am glad I did.
A must read if you wish to improve your relationships
If you are someone who is planning to visit a marriage counselor, I would firstly suggest you to go thru this book. The way Swami jee has explained the concepts of relationships is something which even the best counselor on the planet can't. The only reason why Swami jee's concept sticks into your brain is because he always has a story to support the core idea of any topic. Thank you Swami jee for making such a wonderful compilation 🙏🏼
This is a book to help us pause and reset ourselves into a search for compassionate and non-judgmental relationships, enjoying every step of the way instead of looking for salvation in our ultimate destination, whatever it may be. It is one of those books you can pick up and open at a random chapter for a daily dose of knowledge and inspiration.
Om Swami through this book has shown me the truth that it took years for me to experience in relationships.
I just feel that maybe if I had read this book before, I would have been able to handle my relationship issues in a better manner. He is insightful and yet writes in the simple language which anyone can understand.
If I ever get to meet him, it'll be the biggest blessing in my life!
The book is a collection of short chapters, each containing a profound idea about love, life and living. Om Swami uses wonderful anecdotes and a friendly style to effortlessly convey even the harshest truths of life. This is a book one should keep at hand, to refer to whenever one feels lost or dejected in life.
If you want to sail through life as a grown-up with so many thoughts and feelings blocking your mind and heart. You need this book. Every word, every sentence brings peace.
In fact, all his books bring you peace, unlike other preachers - Osho, Sadhguru, and many more, he doesn't go off-track and doesn't make you feel lost.
It's a good read for realizing lot of things in life and following them for a better approach towards life. Would definitely recommend. Sometimes you need to stop and soak in what you read and sometimes you can keep reading and relate quickly.
This one took me a long time to read for many of the same reasons I enjoyed it-- I kept it on my bedside, and would read small chapters before I went to sleep. It was easily accessible, and the lessons were a "feel good" for putting into my mind just before bed.
The book grows on you and with every chapter clarity dawns. Couldn't put it down. Something to be listened to multiple times and I am sure, every listen would have something more and something new for realization
Om swami has written again in his no-nonsense manner. His simple language is almost deceptive because the messages in the book are so profound that even a few of them, if applied in life, can become game changers.
Om Swami is an exceptional teacher. His youtube videos on meditation and other books are simply the best. With short stories and pure wisdom, this book is a rare gem i would like to re-read. A must buy if you are a seeker.
