Many thanks to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
First off, I have to say that I love the cover of this book! The colours, graphics and feel of the cover drew me to it instantly.
I really enjoyed this book with its gripping plot that takes the reader on a gruesome but thrilling journey through the world of drugs, gangs, and human trafficking. Even though this is Book 7 in the Detective Alec Ramsay series, it could easily be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone.
Justice, revenge and betrayal are just but a few of the themes you can find embedded in this story. The characters are well written and really draw you in. Annie and Stirling were two characters that particularly piqued my interest. Detective Alec Ramsay did not make an appearance until later in the story so the focus was on the other key players of the Major Investigation Team. Andris and Ivor Markevica were creepy, manipulative, and Andris in particular really made my skin crawl. Letva was also quite scary and extremely stealthy in his ways. Not a man you want to p*ss off! And Antonia (Toni) was a great character. She was taken through the mill in this story and at times her experience was so real I felt like I was right there with her!
A mix of PCP and Ketamine made the drug #Zombie in this story and it was aptly named. That concoction alone would leave the user messed up beyond belief! The notorious and seedy drug underworld, filled with corruption and destruction was well thought out and completely believable.
There were some cracking and shocking twists in this book and for fans of the Alec Ramsay series, I think you will be really surprised!! It was a real page turner and once I started, I struggled to put it down. Would I recommend this book? Hell yeah I would! In fact, I have added the series to my TBR as I would like to find out where it all started!
This gruesome, thrilling and absolutely action packed book is definitely worth checking out!
This is yet another amazing, gripping book in the Alec Ramsey series. As with the other books in the series, the action is non-stop, the baddies are evil and the violence is off the scale gruesome! There are a few twists along the way, and I have to admit to a few tears being shed!
If you like dark and gritty crime thrillers then this is the book for you. It seems as though this is the last book in the series though
I listened to the book on Audible and Hugh Trethowan’s narration was superb.
A dark and violent, no holds barred, thriller. A story that has the reader hooked, from the first to the last page. As the bodies pile up, Liverpool is transformed into a war zone. We have violent East European gangsters engaged in drug and people smuggling, alongside amoral journalists, risking life and limb for a story. While all this is happening the elite MIT branch of the police is forced to play catchup. This is a powerful tale of intrigue, double cross, murder and, in the end, karma. Highly recommended!
I have now read all your books. Each one is different. All the key caricatures are the same. This is amazing . You can read each book on its own or in sequence. That's clever. The Ramsey books are all fast paced, exciting, intriguing and very enjoyable. I wait for book 8 and hope it won't be to long .
Conrad Jones write like a reporter documenting real life accounts we have all seen in the news. What makes him stand apart is the empathy he infuses his characters with. As the story unfolds, we begin to grow attached to them and hopes for the best. Also, the impeccable writing and attention to detail make this book and series a must read!
Absolutely brilliant! This is fantastic writing, cant believe I havent discovered this author before but I will be reading more of him. So much detail and action, its like a breath of fresh air on a roller coaster ride of full on action and intrigue.
This book was really exciting and I looked forward to going to bed so I could find out the next thrilling episode. Well worth a read if you enjoy thrillers.
Absolutely stomach churning. Really, truly gruesome in places. Conrad Jones has such a way with words that I am sure he’s had first hand experience of the situations he describes. There were times I actually had to take a breath before I could read on.
It is an Alec Ramsey book but he features little here. The focus is instead on Annie Jones who leads the team through this challenging series of events. Toni Barrat the dogged journalist is back into play and we learn more about her and what makes her tick. Although I still don’t like her, I now might have a little sympathy for her.
If you are a Conrad Jones fan (I seriously suggest you become one if you’re not) then this is a must read.
Journalist Antonia (Toni) Barrat gets a tip-off that changes her life and the lives of those around her when she finds herself in the middle of a drug and people trafficking war being run by a little-known Latvian crime syndicate. DI Annie Jones and sidekick Jim Stirling find themselves out of their depth as the body count rapidly rises, as people – innocent and guilty alike – fall at the hands of the ultra-violent gangsters.
For the most part the story focuses on the chaos that is caused as the criminal gang breaks down, as individuals go maverick, while others try to cover up their tracks at any cost. There is little detecting work that is done by the police—it’s more about damage limitation, though with little success.
I found this to be very readable, though would have preferred more of a focus on DI Annie Jones and some sort of investigation; as it felt to me as though she was more of a helpless witness to events rather than a key player. I’m also not sure it fits with the trilogy, although I would recommend reading it in series, as there are elements of Annie’s back-story that could be a spoiler to the first story.
As with the second trilogy, there were some formatting and editing blips that crop up here and there, but as a rule it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story. Overall an enjoyable read.
I do not spoil books, not going to do it! But why do I feel like I just lost my best friend? Why do I see pictures, in my mind, of New York and Las Vegas back in the 40's and 50's?! The twist and turns, the violence and gore, and the absolutely fantastic writing of this novel has to be read to be believed! I feel totally sad after reading the ending of this book! But I also felt hope for some of the characters I've read about from the beginning! To get the full depth of emotion, love, fear, sadness and horror you really need to read the whole serious!
This is an amazing audio book. I was transfixed from the beginning. So much so that I had to keep listening. I refused to sit down with my family for supper, kept my earphones on and continued to listen! This is a violent book about ruthless sociopaths and the police who try to stop them. A tale of good versus evil for the modern age. Utterly compelling, unbelievably shocking and totally brilliant. Beautifully narrated by Hugh Trethowan. Conrad Jones never fails to impress.
Conrad Jones is truly a master at his craft! I was once again unable to put this book down! I'm obsessed with Alec Ramsay and his department! It is amazing to me that I can become so vested in a fictional group of people, that when one dies it truly invokes sadness. And that right there is the reason you should buy this book, but even better start from the beginning of the series! You can thank me later ; )
Wow, I absolutely loved and enjoyed listening to this novel on audible . It had me totally gripped from the beginning to the end. It was so addictive I couldn't stop listening, that all housework was abandoned. I loved the storyline and the excellent narration by Hugh Trethovan totally added to my enjoyment of this novel. This was my first time listening to one of Conrad's novels and it will certainly not be my last.
Wow I have read this fabulous series in just over a week (retired not lazy) and have been enthralled from start to finish. Each story has been so engaging with some very likeable characters and some pure evil to their core. Three was up there as my particular favourite filled with suspense and drama throughout. Explosive series which I highly recommend but not for the faint hearted. Thank you Conrad you're a very talented author. BP Sheffield x
I have thoroughly enjoyed all seven of the Detective Ramsey books, but you need a really strong stomach to read them. These books keep you on edge from the very first page to the end of the book. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. However, I do have one really big complaint, was it really necessary to kill off Sgt Sterling. That really upset and pi---d me off. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys really hardcore, detective mysteries.
I hadn't read any of the previous books but wold not have guessed it was centred on Alec Ramsey as he seemed to play a minimal roll. I like police procedurals where we follow one particular person so this was a bit diffuse for me. Also the kill count was ridiculously high and the violence quotient also seemed unnecessarily high.
Wow what a lot happening very tense throughout and kept you on edge yet well engrossed to the end what a sad end for some and points out how people risk there lives everyday to protect us !!was bit upset as i feel a connection to these people as it was soo well written will def be reading more from this author sooo glad i found you Mr Jones .
One of the best series I have read in a long time. Looking forward to reading the next book. Each and every book is this series is 5 stars. Difficult to put down had to read n one sitting
I have read all of the Alec Ramsay series one after the other, I feel he has become part of my life. Every book had been exiting and difficult to put down. Highly recommend these books if you like a strong and fast paced plot.
Just finished reading Three. Completely unputdownable. Brilliantly written. Very descriptive. Great story very believeable. You can picture each and every character and each and every scene like it were a film
Absolutely brilliant. thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't put it d own.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written fast paced thriller. I.have missed meals and bedtime s it was so Engrossing.Looking forward to book 8!
I have read the whole series. never disappointed me once looking forward to the next one. If you havnt read them and you need a series that will.keep u up reading all night read this
Fantastic read. Fantastic end to the series. I enjoy Conrad’s books as I live very close to the areas he writes about. But I loved Alec’s life and some of the other key characters too. Sad ending for some brought a tear. Throughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
How viscous will a ruthless organization become to maintain control and tie up loose ends?
Three has some good twists. As Three tries to control their situation the bodies start piling up and the brutality keeps ratcheting up. This is a runaway train from start to finish.
Seems there is no where a person can go to get away from the enemy. In this case I would not want to be a fly on the wall. Someone would surely have a fly swatter and there I'd be! Excellent reading and keeping me on the edge of my chair. Jackfire
if murder and violence is your thing then read this
I don’t think I’ve read a book with more violence than this one, if any part of this book is true it’s a scary world out there very riveting could not put it down.
Oh wow, this has got to be the best thriller I've read to date. It's fast paced with brilliant character development, excellent storyline. A must read, but not for the faint hearted.
