A.J. Downey is a Pacific Northwest girl living in an East Tennessee world who finds inspiration from her surroundings, through the people she meets, and likely as a byproduct of way too much caffeine. She specializes in real and relatable romance stories featuring that real-life kind of love that everyone craves.
This was a great series, I enjoyed reading it. I was sad that it ended, not so much for the romance part of it but because the club storyline was so good. I really wish Dragon had had a story of his own though. He deserved to find someone to be happy with. I did review each book separately and not all of them were five star reads for me, but as a whole this series is most definitely a five star read. I suggest reading them in order and not skipping any, all the parts are needed to make this the perfect story that it is.
This was good. A little bland at times but an okay read. I enjoyed the characters, including Dray's crabby ass. I definitely felt horrible for Ashton and what her dick of a husband put her through. No female should ever have to put up with a sadistic abusive asshole and as frustrating as it is when the female stays in that violent situation, as outsiders we need to understand that its not easy just leaving. After years of abuse, your mind gets conditioned to accept the situation and tricks your body into staying and accepting the horrid treatment, its sad really.
Besides the bland parts of the book, there was also the instalove, after less than a week both Ashton and Trig were professing their undying love for one another. I don't even think he knew her last name at that point but he was madly in love, give me a fucking break. I've said it before, there's absolutely nothing wrong with meeting someone and just liking them for a while. The book is not going to suck or fail just because the main characters don't profess their love for one another days after meeting.
Overall it was an okay book, I did enjoy many parts and especially liked Ashton's character. It was really nice seeing her come out of her shell and moving on with someone who actually cared about her well being.
2) Broken & Burned 3 Stars
Another okay read, though I did enjoy Dray and Everette's story, it was extremely repetitive. I think I read about her worst day ever like four or five times throughout the book when once is just enough and maybe a glossed over version as well. So just like the first book, while an enjoyable read, there were many bland, page skipping parts. Plus we get another dose of instalove in this book too, which just made my skin crawl. I was kind of expecting that though since authors tend to stick to the same formula.
What really had me questioning this book was Brandy's character. The girl was a first class twat, who was selfish enough to set Everette up and she totally got away with it. After the incident at the coffeehouse, Brandy wasn't mentioned again and that just pissed me off, I mean yeah they got retribution from Ronnie/Spaz for his role but what about Brandy? I didn't like that at all and it kind of ruined the last portion of this book for me.
3) Cracked & Crushed 4 Stars
So aside from the repetitiveness and instalove, which I think is this authors two go to things, this was a really sad but good book. I love Reaver, his character was always sadistic but cheerful, quite the conundrum really but one couldn't help but love his crazy ass character. He was as loyal and fierce as they come and Hayden was a very lucky girl to have scored herself such a unique man.
Hayden was also a great character, she was always so assured and just plain spunky, of course all of that changed when she got dumped at the alter. She was just a hot fucking disaster who kept falling apart. It was sad and just frustrating. I wanted her to get her spunk back and to live her life for her, fuck what everyone thought. It took some time but she slowly went back to being her old sassy self!
It was truly sad what happened to Shelly, whore or not she did not deserve what happened to her, but her anger was totally misplaced, blaming Hayden...I mean WTF! Shelly has always been a pain in the ass and just shy of being a nasty twat, still no female should be taken advantage of that way, especially by someone who the club was stupid enough to trust for the moment. That shit just came back to hurt Shelly and bite the SHMC right on their asses! Shelly did the right thing, eventually, let's just hope that degrading and horrible experience turns her into a better person.
Overall, very enjoyable read!
3.5) Masked & Miserable 4 Stars
Loved this! It was just so sweet, even though the club is in the middle of a war with those jackasses the Suicide Kings, reading Andy and Aaron's story was like breathing fresh air. They were just so damn cute together! Kudos to the club for accepting Andy and his lifestyle!
4) Tattered & Torn 2.5 Stars
Okay, so as a female it doesn't matter if your a girl next door wholesome person, a junkie looking for her next fix, a slut, whore, prostitute or just a woman who enjoys sex as much as a man...none of that shit matters if the woman says no! Sexually assaulting a female just because you have the power to do so is no fucking exception. What happened to Shelly was wrong on so many levels, her being a club slut should not have even factored into the situation because she chose to screw the SH brothers, no one forced her and she had the right to say no, club slut or not!
Now here's the thing, while I felt horrified at what happened to Shelly at the hands of not one but two of the Suicide Kings members, I honestly just did not care for her character. Like I see where AJD tried to portray Shelly as a tough as nails gal, with the shit upbringing and the club slut background, but let's just call it what it is, Shelly was a huge ass bitch. She was a bitch before the attack and a bitch after as well. Her character just wasn't likable, she was just a hot fucking disaster who treated people like shit and didn't have any care about herself, so always put herself in dangerous predicaments, its like she was blinded by peoples harmful intent towards her, so for a street smart gal...she sure was fucking stupid at times!
Ghost/Derek...damn this fucking guy was just plain boring. I can't really even put my finger on why I feel that way, its just...I don't know...he didn't have that spark that the other males in this series has. Him and Shelly both were just blah...their story too. So far I've mostly enjoyed this series but this book just put me to sleep various times, it dragged on to long...I literally skimmed through like three chapters just to get to the end because this couple just didn't do it for me..
5) Fractured & Formidable 4 Stars
Well this was one hell of a tear jerker! The horrible shit that happens in this book, the lives lost due to this stupid MC war with the Suicide Kings is just fucking atrocious!!! What I don't understand is why these Suicide Kings are hell bent on avenging a man who brutally raped women? I guess the fact that most of their members are rapists says a whole lot, which is why I just like the Sacred Hearts so much, because they never hurt women or children, never!
With that being said, Zander and Mandy's story was pretty typical. Nothing phenomenal, nothing magical, it just was. I think the cutest thing with this couple was the height difference, like with Shelly and Ghost, both women were so much taller than their men and while its a bit strange I thought that change in dynamic was pretty cool. Zander and Mandy were cute together, she really needs to grow a back bone, she's to sensitive and fragile which is just plain at odds with her almost six foot height, other than that their story was cute.
So who is betraying the club? Who could have hurt these people the way they did? Who? I, for one, can't wait to find out!!!
6) Damaged & Dangerous 4 Stars
Well talk about the dead coming back alive! This was a shock to my system after the small meltdown I had with book five. Though I was pleasantly happy at the shock of seeing a dead man well...so very alive!
I really enjoyed Dani and Thirteen's story. Dani was just a sweet girl who got dealt a very sad hand in life, but she tried really hard to make the best of a truly fucked up situation. She didn't always succeed but she didn't give up and that's what matters. Thirteen was your typical biker, loyal to his club, totally in love with his woman. I think what I liked best about him was his humility. His club name Red-XIII...wasn't only because he was a red head, well you can guess why he'd been dubbed with the number thirteen...lol. Thing is he wasn't arrogant or cocky...no pun intended...he was just honest in a very frank and cute way.
I know the story continues with Cutter and his boys but this sixth book was a really nice pseudo-ending for this first batch of SH brothers...I look forward to reading Cutter's story and also the other newer batch of the SHMC!
I wish I would’ve read book one prior to putting out the money on the box set. I love MC’s but this just wasn’t my cup of tea. I hate when they try to make them all sugary sweet, it ruins the whole dynamic. Plus this whole group or whatever it was was just weird. Nothing about them screamed brotherhood, which goes against the very best part of Mc books. The ability to latch on to the group as a whole and watch the development on top of them each finding their mate. Disappointed but alas a lesson learned the hard way.......wasting valuable book money.
I have all of these books purchased individually but I had to buy the box set just for binge reading. This is a series I have read more than once and know I will read again and again.
5 STARS Why Reaver he was my favorite I'm heartbroken. But you fooled me in the last book of the series. I absolutely loved everyone of these books well done.
So here we have all the Sacred Hearts MC series in one go. With lots of sexy times, violence and drama, this series is one of the best MC series I have read yet! I was super sad when I finished the last book. I give this entire series 5 stars!!
Shattered & Scarred Trigger meets his match in Ashton, who has been beaten down by her husband and left for dead. Both are a bit damaged and trying to come to terms with being thrown together in this whirlwind relationship. Trig takes it slow and knows that Ashton needs time, and he will give her that, and Ashton needs to learn that all men are not like her husband. Some sexy time and a bit of drama, this is a fantastic read.
Broken & Burned Dray & Evy's story is my absolute fav, I have no clue why but I loved every second of this. Dray helps Evy out in a tough situation. After the situation is dealt with, he decides to not fight what he is feeling for her... but can they make this work?, will Evy understand the ways of the club? The events in this story set the pace for the rest of the series.
Cracked & Crushed Reaver has loved Hayden from afar, loved her to the point where he is willing to watch her get married to someone else if it means her happiness. But what happens when the wedding doesn't happen? Will he decide he is done watching from the sidelines? Will Hayden realize what has been in front of her all along?
Masked & Miserable OMG I love Squick and Aaron. We all got the clue in book one that he was not like the other guys. Most MC's aren't down with the man on man loving, so Squick is scared to come out, scared of losing the family he has come to have. Will he take this risk for Aaron? or continue to hide his true self?
Tattered & Torn Shelly is trying to move on from what happened at the lake run. Ghost is sure he is the man that can help her. Can Shelly trust someone other than her cousin Reaver to help her? Will Ghost get past her guard?
Fractured & Formidable The story of Mandy and Zander is just amazing.. Mandy coming from a very strict upbringing and Zander taking care of himself for the most part. The two make the most amazing couple. With several bumps along the way to make it interesting.
Damaged & Dangerous This was the conclusion to this amazing series. Dani is in one of the worst situations that could possibly happen to someone and Red Thirteen is the one that's going to help get her out. This ending was fantastic.
By far, one of my favourite MC series and now they are all in one nice bundle. Trigger, Dray, Disney, Ghost, Revelator, Thirteen and my man Reaver (yes my man before anyone has other ideas, lol). I really am a sucker for these biker boys.
I loved every book in the set. I think I cried more in Disney's book than any of them. I can't wait to read more of the series. I wanna know about Blue & The other guys. I'm heart hurts for Cutter. Can't wait to read his book.
