Hello there! I'm Claudia King, a huge nerd of a writer who decided a few years ago that it was about time to put all those creative writing classes to good use rather than going out to get a real job. Starting out with erotica, I have since sidled over into romance and historical/paranormal fantasy territory.
I'm an avid reader and consumer of all sorts of storytelling media, and if I don't have my nose buried in a book for work then I'm probably playing around with some artsy video game, obsessively cleaning the house, or going off on a wander through the countryside to lose myself in nature.
If you read as much as I do it's very hard to find books that surprise you. Be it paranormal , sci fi or even suspense a seasoned reader will usually have some sort of idea how the story will play out. I spotted this and immediately thought it might be erotic sci fi so imagine my delight when it turned out to be a story about prehistoric werewolves! Yes that's right Stone Age , clad in furs people who can shift but dont think it's just an excuse for a sexy romp because it turns out this book is really a coming of age story. Netya is our heroine and she's a surprising mixture of innocence, curiosity and gumption. Oh she might start out as little more than property but she pretty soon establishes herself as someone who could herald the beginning of so many changes. Reading about her struggles to straddle both the world she's been brought up in and also this newer culture opened my eyes to just how settled and blinkered humans can be. Netya is fully human, a child of the Sun people and yet somehow needs to find a place for herself amongst the Moon people . Reluctant to be just a bed fellow for the Alpha Netya tries her hands at various roles amongst the distrustful clan . Yes she makes mistakes but she also grows from a virginal ingenue into a young woman unafraid to make emotional attachments . As Netya makes friends and enemies the reader starts to understand the fractured dynamics amongst the clan. Traditionally dominated by the male Alpha and yet the females too have strongly defined matriarchal roles and there's the rub because what's traditional might not always be right. Netya might have been a victim initially but without a doubt as this book ends she is respected and perhaps even feared ! So not what I expected and I'm happily recommending this book. The follow up is Daughter of the Moon but if you truly want to understand this world and these characters then the prequel Daughter of the Night will surely be the place to start. As I write this The Alphas Concubine is free on kindle
Disappointing. I was so excited to read this one and I downloaded for free with a sense of eager anticipation. I thought it'd be the typical story about an alpha male getting all dominant over a reluctant heroine in a prehistoric setting. It's not.
First of all this isn't a conventional romance featuring an alpha hero, a heroine, some conflict leading to a HEA for the protagonists and at the end when all it's said and done, a established couple. This book is menage erotica and anything goes: M/M, F/F, F/M/F, M/F/M. There's no alpha hero here. There's a male character and everyone says he's the alpha but he shares his woman, that's not what a true alpha would do. He isn't the hero of the story. I'll go as far as to say that this story lacks a hero because the main character sleeps willingly with several men and her encounters with her lovers are described in vivid detail. I thought it'd be a romance like Transcendence, and to my disappointment there's no romance here, just smut, but not the kind of smut I like to read. I do read polyamorous from time to time, but that's usually reverse harem, not this kind of polygamy erotica.
The story is about Nestya, she's kidnapped by a tribe of shifters and the "alpha" --term used loosely as he isn't your romance alpha, just the leader of his tribe.-- takes Nestya as her concubine. From the moment this union is consummated, another man enters the picture, Caspian. Then there's this mating ritual, a sort of a mating party for this tribe and Nestya sleeps with someone else, not the "alpha" not Caspian but a 3rd guy. That same night she sleeps with more people including women. I lost interest.
The setting of the story and the costumes of the people are somehow enjoyable to read. I also liked that before having sex with her, the leader confirms Nestya is willing. Only then he proceeds. That was something that I appreciated, it made me like the leader. I enjoyed certain aspects of this book, that's why I'm refraining from a rating, but if I were to settle on a rating it'd be 2 stars.
I enjoyed this book much more than expected - this book was surprisingly good and well written - the title and cover made it seem like another smutty book but it really isn't - there was so much more depth than anticipated - I really enjoyed it and it's FREE on Amazon - definitely check it out
ATTENTION SAFETY GANG Unsafe read alert!! Unsafe read alert!! Unsafe read alert!! I didn't realize I downloaded this one for free long ago. It's a Perman free, but unfortunately I don't want to keep it on my Kindle anymore because
Anyone who likes that kind of Menage thing, you can download for free in Kobo and Amazon, I book. It's not a Kindle Unlimited book. For those of you who don't know KU books shouldn't be available in other retailers.
I'm not quite sure what to make of this. Honestly, it seemed to go on forever, and I ended up skipping bits just to see how it ended.
This was listed as romance, but it didn't read that way. There's a lot of sex (which is fine, but the book relies on that a little too much to get attention - and it's fairly repetitive) and various bits of story (most of which was a bit dull), but not much romance at all. Indeed, Netya switches partners a couple of times and I was never sure who I was supposed to be rooting for. There was no real connection and I found it really difficult to care about what was going on. For someone who is supposed to be wise, Netya comes across as a bit empty-headed.
More of an Epic Tale Of A People (Clan of Cave Bear? type of thing) and of a young stolen women than romance. Not my thing, so I'm not going to rate. But it is well written, so if this is your type of thing it won't be wasted time or money bc it's free on Amazon.
Just noticed that this intriguing shifter tale is now FREE!
If you enjoyed the prehistoric world of Clan of the Cave Bear but though the book needed some shapeshifers, then The Alpha's Concubine will be right up your alley. Our heroine is sucked out of her normal village life when she's captured by a band of werewolves in a raid. Turned into the alpha's concubine in her new life, she has to find her way within an entirely different culture than her own.
This is a very different werewolf book than the ones you may have read to date, with plenty of sizzle but with thought-provoking world-building and characterizations as well. It's more a coming-of-age tale than a romance, and thus gives the reader more to sink her teeth into than the average paranormal romance.
This complete season 1 finishes up the original storyline perfectly but leaves you itching to find out how the new twist plays out. Good thing season 2 is in the works!
Interesting premise, historic shape shifters feminist novel. But the pace.... so slow. I feels like a documentary vs a blockbuster movie. The heroine is a curious girl who grew up sheltered, but open-minded to learn all she can to be something more.
I'm not able to connect to these characters and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the time period it's set in, I'm not sure though. I'm DNF'ing this at 20%. Maybe it's someone else's cup of tea but it's just not mine.
Netya at the beginning of the book was puzzling to me and I very nearly put the book down. The Moon People were feared rivals and the first time Netya interacted with them it was to be abducted by their Alpha. But she had to hold on to the wolf carrying hey away which she did with no protest or fight to get away or back to the people she grew up with including her family and a young man she was interested in. Carried along to a new place to become the Alpha's concubine. She redeemed herself a little throughout the book though how she spent most of her time trying to assimilate instead of escape, especially in the beginning is beyond, especially when she was clearly not readily welcomed into the pack. Some of the scenes are strange to understand Netya's reasoning and she develops an enemy in the pack which colors some events negatively for her in the eyes of the pack. The Khelt and Caspian situation was not fraught with angst and bitterness as one would think and most things are tied up nicely in the end.
Watching Netya mature was interesting but while she showed flashes of backbone here and there, I was disappointed by her interactions with Vaya. I was surprised by the ending of the book, it was not what I expected at all so that was different. I'm not interested enough to learn where the next book leads but from beginning to end, the glimpse into the other side of who Adel is was intriguing.

Loved this book. It wasn't a cheesy romance (I do love my share of cheesy romances) but a coming into the self type of story where the "victim" becomes her own person. Main character Netya is a young virginal war trophy who earns both mistrust and the love of some of the Moon People's most intimidating clan members. I'm getting ahead of myself.
Moon People are a group of shifters while Netya's people are humans known as the Sun People. Of course, both clans know nothing of the other's cultures which breeds mistrust. When the Moon People's Alpha takes Netya as his concubine things get uncomfortable for the poor girl. What I adore about this book is that readers experience Netya's growth into her own woman. She makes her own choices regarding her fate, including some emotionally challenging ones for the good of "her pack."
I'm looking forward to digging into the next two books.
There are layers to every character. You want to smack the patriarch and the matriarch of the pack upside the head because their feud which is fueled by pride has dire consequences on the pack and eventually Netya.
The story is well written and you care so much about the characters that even the "villains" are not truly evil but driven by tradition. Ultimately, the story is about breaking away from "traditions" and taking that uncomfortable step toward change.
This story is a cross between Clan of the Cave Bear and Twilight: New moon. This was a lengthy and epic tale of a young girl and her coming of age in a time before the use of metal was common and some people still lived in caves and tents. The story does have a few sex scenes but nothing over the top. Euphemisms like throbbing member and slick folds were used. I myself prefer more graphic words. The story has a steady pace. The characters are well developed. Netya is kidnapped by the alpha of a werewolf clan and expected to be his concubine. She comes to enjoy being with him but feels that there should be more, that something is missing in their relationship. She learns that there is more to life than belonging to a man and having his babies. She learns she has choices. She explores those choices and in the year she is with the Moon People she learns much. I highly recommend this book to young women who still need to find themselves, who need to understand that they have many choices and should not settle for the first pretty face that pays a little attention to them. I would like to read the next book in the series; Daughter of the Moon.
The Alphas Concubine reminds me of Jean Auels Earths Children series in scope and themes. Netya is kidnapped to become the alphas concubine, but she becomes so much more.
Set in the late stone age, The Alphas concubine explores the conflict between Netya's human sun people and the wolf shifter moon people they fear and hate. It also explores the conflict between men's and women's leadership and the need to chose to serve yourself first, or to sacrifice your desires to serve the needs of the group.
These themes are explored through an exciting plot that follows Netya as she tries to adjust to life among the moon people making friends and enemies along the way. She tries out several different jobs trying to find her place. She also explores her emotional attachment to two of the tribes leaders, trying to choose between them.
The Alpha's Concubine was so much more than I expected from the title. It was a very satisfying book and a good start to a series.
I chose this book from the Frazetta like cover, and the title, because I was in the mood for a bit of sexy fluff. However, the title doesn't begin to do this book justice. It is deep, thoughtful, and follows the awakening and evolving of the main character as she finds her own considerable power and status. There are some sex scenes in the book, and they are touching, filled with feeling, and done with grace. I wanted to urge the author to retitle this book something that truly respects the depth and feeling of this story, which is NOT a bit of sexy fluff! Don't pass this one up because the title makes it seem lightweight.
I usually am bored by paranormal shifter books because they all see the same, but this book was really so much more than I expected. The characters have such depth and the story is a brilliantly balanced mix of conflict, suspense, sexiness and angst. The heroine is a young girl abducted by a group of shifters, who is actually saved by the Alpha of the group by taking her as his concubine. As the story progresses she becomes more aware and mature, and eventually her being there changes the fate of the whole clan. First book of a series and can't wait to read the next!
Ew.. just ew. It sounded so promising. This book, however, does not have the alpha male the synopsis promised. Instead, we get a horny young woman exploring her sexuality. Which is fine. I totally dig that. But don’t promise a sexy alpha male- virgin romance and then give us the MC fucking everything that moves. I wouldn’t have mind at all if the summery made it clear that this was going to be a polygamous book because I would’ve chosen there and then if I wanted to read this book or not.
This is the book version of clickbait! Even the title and cover are misleading!
Ugh. It just irks me, been lured in with a promising synopsis and then been punch in the face with that instead.
This is an absolutely great read about a young girl's transformation into a strong woman, trying to overcome prejudice, challenge tradition, and find her place and her purpose in a culture different form her own. Interesting characters and just enough romance without taking away from the substance of the story. I could not put it down!
A long, but pleasant read. Though there was more telling than showing in this book, it still pulled at my emotions and drew me in. Definitely interested in the next book.
I am very pleasantly surprised by this book. It wasn’t at all the mediocre porn w/o (a good) plot that I was expecting.
I’ve actually never read a shifter romance before, and to be honest, I’ve been judgmental of them. I didn’t think they could deal with hard themes well or have well-developed characters, relationships, and plot beats…. but I admit that I was wrong.
Netya has to be among my favorite FMCs to date. Seeing her journey from naive, overly presumptuous girl to a deliberate, brave, wise woman in her year (and a half?) with the pack was… so satisfying.
Other characters had amazing arcs too, in every direction you can think of. There were genuinely so many characters in this book and somehow the author managed to give all of them the perfect amount of screentime to make me like them and get invested in their growth. I was particularly fond of one character’s fall from grace and another character’s rise from being the “villain.”
There wasn’t a single moment I think where I was skeptical of the plot, sensed any major plotholes, or felt like the smut was overly gratuitous in comparison with the interesting coming-of-age story the author had set up. I loved the world building, the clear attention to detail, and the themes presented.
If you like characters coming into their own skin, finding their voice, a bunch of badass women fighting the patriarchy (and literally repeatedly shitting on one guy, it’s so funny), along with some smut, romance, female friendship, great world building and prose…. you’ll probably enjoy this book.
Only took 1 star because I feel like it dragged in a few places because of extra scenes/drawn out prose.
-spoilers Not Some aspects of the plot were well formed while others were not. You do not get a true taste of who the main character is before she is kidnapped and left and left you feeling like you did not form a true connection to the main protagonists. The main character is basically kidnapped mostly willingly and did not put up an once of resistance. Sleeps with her kidnappers next day willingly . The story plot did not sit right with me the plot continually contradicted itself. There is a chapter talking about how wolves fight to settle their differences but when they potentially are being run out of their home they choose to run from shelter because of one woman’s fear and not fight. They supposedly prize the hunters but when it’s time to defend themselves they run. There is Also a part where two supposedly strong fast wolves are killed by a little hunting party and are only able to take out two men who do not have claws and fangs. They get pushed to runaway during winter and the pact ends up splintering because of a woman from another pack said she can’t deal with the Alpha. Not to mention somehow the sun people are pale and moon people are tan I mean I know this is fantasy but make it make sense. There are too many contradictions to mention since I like to make short reviews but I would not suggest this read if you like a more thought out plot line. The writer put to much effort to nonessential aspects of the story which left some of the story to feel empty.
Spectacularly written! I was lost in the wonderful world the author created, mixing a historical fiction setting with paranormal shifter elements. The plot was well developed as well as the main and supporting characters. I normally do not like love triangles because I always root for the underdog- and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the underdog wins! Unlike most of my paranormal reads, I took my time combing through this book because the plot and twists were way more elaborate. This was not simply about wolf shifters and some sexy romance; it was about a young girl who is torn from the life she has always known and thrown into an existence where she must use all her wits to survive. There were several underlying themes that allowed for the reader to become engrossed in the storyline and follow the evolution that several of the main characters made. While survival was the most resounding topic, there was also love and various incarnations of love, along with hate, and how the various ways it can lead to a person's undoing. The author does a great job in allowing the reader to enter the mind of each character and get an inside look at what motivates them to exist. The main heroine is Netya, the Alpha's concubine, and while she starts off as a simple maleable young girl, she has a magnificent transformation, invoking her inner strength and developing her latent talents to not only survive among shifter wolves but to come out on top.
This book was incredibly different and more out of the box than most books have been for me. I believe this to be my first time reading one of Claudia King's books and I can tell you it won't be my last. I am soooooo impressed with all the characters and thoughts that went into this book to make it worth reading all the way through, I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next which is rare because once the build up of a story passes through the middle of a book it will only go on to boring me the rest of the read through and then I wonder why I picked up the book in the first place. In this book it continues to surprise you over and over, the ending was a beautiful bitter sweet ending with so much more to be continued and I can't wait to turn my attention to the second book. With Claudia you dont miss the powerful emotions built into each and every character, even with the emotions of love and passionate embraces to be read. Truly amazing book and I highly recommend it's been yrs since I gave a 5 star to a book.... I judge my books very harshly usually because of a dumb girl, sex is awful, or the author has no real imagination. GREAT JOB Claudia, very impressive.
I haven't ever read a shifter book like this. Honestly, I want more like it. I have only ever read about urban shifters.
The story was very interesting and unique to itself. My only complaint was that it was extremely long. I could skim through and still know exactly what was going on.
Netya is a wonderful FMC. She's not perfect, but she learns quickly. I really enjoyed her honesty and vulnerability.
I know it might be weird, but I'm actually kind of sad that Adel and Khelt didn't end up together. They've been through so many hardships together. Yes, their hatred for one another burns with a passion of a thousand suns, but I could easily see it turning into strictly passion. Hopefully, their time a part will allow them to heal and try again.
I really hope that Khelt grows as a character. It was sad that it didn't happen until it was almost too late.
I also wish that Vaya hadn't gotten off so easily. I feel like banishment wasn't enough for her. I'm pretty sure she will rejoin the pack now that Netya is gone.
I hope Erech's leg heals completely and that he is given his own little story.

Don't let the awful cover hold you back- this book is really freaking good!
This isn't my usual genre, but after just a few pages- I was completely immersed in this evocative sweeping epic. The characters are well portrayed, and clearly fleshed out. The women are strong, fiercely intelligent, and driven. The men were given just as much attention in their development and...I honestly can't rave about this book enough. It's so well written and beautifully captured, the entire time it honestly felt like I was there. Yeah, it's that good. This book encompasses a lot, and I promise you, whatever you're into- this story covers it. It's well paced, suspenseful, romantic, heartbreaking, action packed, and told so well the pages just flew by. If you like compelling, complex, conflicted, relatable characters and are on the prowl for your next literary addiction- look no further. It's right here. Get started already! You won't be disappointed.
DNF 29% Not what I expected at all, and definitely disappointed. This book was in a list of romance books, and I thought it might be interesting since it’s not modern shifters.
But it’s not a romance. And there needs to be a tag or warning that it features polyamory. It just isn’t my preferred thing. Had I known I would have skipped this one completely Instead at 25% I found myself thinking this book was quite boring and didn’t have an alpha to root for, I mean he seems to care but then doesn’t. He must be completely fine with Netya having sex with any males, even though he brought her there to bear him an heir. So I was confused. And I just don’t think I care to go on.
Reading some reviews this sounds like a book I’ll hate having spent so much time on it already, let alone however much it would take to get to the end.
NOT a romance. NOT an alpha shifter meeting his mate book. Two thumbs down!
I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the uniqueness of this story. The characters felt real, in that they each have their own strengths and flaws. I enjoyed the portrayal of Netya, our MC, and how she evolved from a young and curious naive girl into a strong and wise young woman.
I will say that while the character flaws, especially that of the alpha were obvious. The paths each character chose were interesting to read. The character growth is exceptional in this story.
I wish more people would read this simply because it's a great reflection of universal challenges that everyone faces. Whether that is first love/relationship, friendship, loss and grief, anger, resentment, even hate, and forgiveness.
The ending was five stars ✨
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and Claudia King, as a fellow writer, I would literally love to be your friend haha.
