Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.

He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.

He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.

FLY GUY PRESENTS THE WHITE HOUSE by Tedd Arnold introduces young readers to the home of the President of the United States along with the basic of US government.

Designed for second grade readers, this engaging, informational book takes children on a tour of the White House. As Buzz and his pet fly explore the building and grounds, they learn about the president, presidential family, staff, and the history of the building.

The eclectic mix of typography and illustration types are likely to appeal to young readers. However, they could be distracting for very beginning readers.

Librarians will find this book appropriate for K-3 learners exploring the basics of government and the presidency. The simple story and field trip format will appeal to young readers.

Other books in the popular Fly Guy Presents series include bats, insects, sharks, space, dinosaurs, firefighters, and snakes.

Emerging readers love the Fly Guy stories, but who knew the buzzard had dipped into non-fiction? With the Fly Guy Presents series, topics such as space and insects are covered. In this installment, the White House is the focal point. The White House just happens to be one of my favorite things! This early reader gives a run-down of fun facts, including a brief history of the White House and its various residents. Love the full-color photographs throughout. It would be great for a text feature hunt, as well as a good beginning reader for K-2 grade.

Fly Guy and Buzz are in Washington, D. C. to tour the White House where the President lives.

While I have never toured the White House but have read things about it, I learned so much more in this book. It was interesting to see the blue print of it and have the rooms described. I liked that the office part was explained on how the West Wing and the Oval Office came to be. It was also interesting to see the private rooms for the use of the President and his guests. I also enjoyed the portraits of the Presidents. As I looked at them and their terms I was amazed at how often there were one-term Presidents.

Totally enjoying all this learning.

The non-fiction Fly Guy books offer great information with the humor of Fly Guy added in. The White House version is full of interesting information about the past and present in the White House, including animals that have lived there, how it was designed, and details about rooms contained in the building. Many text features offer a good way to increase understanding and keep students engaged!

I don't think this book is appropriate for the small children who would read it. We don't need to be putting "ghosts" into children's nonfiction books. As an independent, it seemed to me like there were a lot more photos of Democratics in the White House than Republicans, although to be fair there was quite a bit about TR, and Queen Elizabeth was shown with two Republican presidents. How wild is it to think she was Queen back when Eisenhower was president?!?

What a great way to talk about Presidents Day! We used this text to talk about the White House, where the presidents live! The story talks more about presidents than about the White House, which was perfect! It was a very long book for kindergarten, but the students loved it. I think it could be used in higher grades, too!

Informative and entertaining--a terrific tool for introducing readers to nonfiction text without the fear of "information overload." Surprisingly detailed and comprehensive for such a brief publication.

Good Level 2 reader for kids. Lots of concepts and words introduced, but the book takes time to explain each and every one in relate-able language for younger readers. I even learned a thing or two about the White House!

Out of date now but a decent look at what the White House looked like, with information about its history, the importance of the major rooms, distinguished guests, staff, pets, etc. Found in a local Little Free Library and putting it back for the next reader.

It goes without saying that young children may find themselves more exposed to presidential politics than in previous years and this entry in the Fly Guy Presents series may be just the thing to provide a fun, kid-friendly introduction to the White House and the presidents who have called it home. The coverage is fairly comprehensive and entirely age appropriate skirting controversy and instead focusing on the people, the features, the events, and the pets (and ghosts) who have shaped it's history. Supported by archival photographs, charts, and humorous line drawings, this is a recommended introduction to part of the US Government.
