*Cold Deception is a tragic love story that should be read after books 1,2, and 3 in the His Agenda Series.*
They say he’s a monster, a very dangerous man. But they don’t know him. They don’t know the depth of the darkness lurking inside his soul. They don’t see the burn of the wounds on his heart. If they did, maybe they would understand why he became Jude Macknight.
Cold Deception offers a peek into the past life of Jude Macknight…when he used to be someone else, when he was married to the woman that introduced him to his dark side.
**WARNING: Due to sexual situations and adult content, Cold Deception is not intended for readers under the age of 18, and anyone who is unable to read books containing the following issues: kidnapping, murder, rape, and extreme abuse. **
Dori Lavelle is a mother, wife, and sucker for happy ever afters and mint chocolate. Hand her a great romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate and she'd be one happy woman.
This story serves as awesome insight into the psyche of Jude. The pain Jude suffered as a child is unimaginable. We are given the rare opportunity to witness how the pain and suffering affect Jude throughout his adult life. Although I don’t excuse his kind of crazy in the Agenda series but I do understand and appreciate his actions. I totally love Jude and this insight into his psyche makes me love him more!
Cold Deception spans across Jude (Terence) as a child through his life as an adult. Jude's parents, Marion/Nolan, Lacey, and Haley all pay for crossing Jude! Cold Deception is a must read!
Holy hell Batman!!!! Cold Deception...the prequel to His Agenda series or what I call it Jude's book is fkn great!!! In this book we find out how Jude Macknight becomes Jude Macknight. He had a horrific childhood..physically abused by his father, sexually abused in an orphanage, goes to prison for a murder he didn't commit ..ughhh !!! He's gets out of prison and meets Lacy and falls instantly in love with her. God he tries so hard to be good and love her and spoil her..he just wants to give her the life she deserves a life they both deserve but his demons and crazy possessiveness gets in the way and everything goes downhill straight into hell from there. I had my issues with Jude in the other 3 books but in this one I'm not excusing his action but I get it I get where it comes from and I can't help but feel bad for him because he couldn't catch a break...he had it rough since childhood. So yes I wanted to save and love a psychopath lol!!!
this book was a great closure to the other 3 books in the series. we now understand jude. life had turned him into a evil monster who slowly started not caring about anyone. he wanted love and could never accept that he had it. fear made him try to control life around him. anger made him take it. if you've read books 1 through 3 read cold deception it will help tie loose ends together. if you haven't already read his agenda series then take a chance you'll love it.
FOUR Stars- I received an ARC for an honest review of Cold Deception (His Agenda 0.5) by Dori Lavelle
I had already read all three books in His Agenda Series by Dori Lavelle, but this prequel helped me comprehend why Jude is the way he is. Except for how do you define "insane?" This is certainly a page turner and the ending may me start back over with Veiled Obsession.
EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED !! All the dirty secrets that drove him! I think the way that this was written is genius!!! Giving us all the WHY’s AND HOW’s after we read the story in its entirety! We understand his motivation & desperate need for love & faithfulness
OMG!! I have already read all 3 books in His Agenda Series and I wasn't disappointed with the Prequel of Jude McKnight. In order to get the true picture of who Jude is, you need to read His Agenda series in order.
Dori writes her books that it makes me feel I watching a movie. The events are vivid and the descriptions will blow your mind. I feel the love between Lacey and Terrence (Jude) and wanted it to last, alas it was not meant to be. To witness the changes within Terrence was like watching Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as the changes within him was so extreme.
I understood why he was a tormented person and distrusted women after reading this book. No spoilers here as I believe this is too good of a book to give away the story.
Be warned this book is not for the faint of heart as it contains graphic descriptions of murder, abuse and rape. If you can handle any of these, it's worth a read, trust me you don't won't to miss this one.
I highly recommend this book as it is a 100+ read.
Why did Terence become so obsessive with having a wife devoted to him 24/7? Well, here is his early story and the incidents that shaped what he was to become.
Having read the rest of the series, it does not surprise me that he was abused as a child. What really floored me was the degree of abuse he took and survived. It is a gripping story of a man in search for love... but a love so obsessive, full of dominance and exclusivity, that you can see why he eventually became the monster that held us at the edge of our seats.
This is a book definitely for those over 18 and not innocent at heart. This is a brutal man who evolves into a serial murderer, getting his highs as he brutalizes women who he thinks have not been faithful. It is a dark and amazing story that blow your mind. Written in the third person, it provides a sense of separation from the characters that makes it less gruesome, yet masterfully developed.
Have you ever wanted to get inside the head of a monster? Wonder what creates the devil with in? I live getting inside the heads of characters. Terence Pirone never had it easy growing up. Finding Lacey seemed to fill a hole in his heart, a love that he had never experienced. When things don't go according to his plans we get to see another side of him. One that's filled with hate and rage. I love the fact Dori gave us this glimpse into his earlier life, it explains so much about his life before He became Jude. Is he just a wounded soul? Or will you love to hate him? And although it should be read after the his agenda trilogy I almost feel you could read it in either order although this one will sort of give you insight to what is going to happen in the others. I feel that reading it after gives his character more depth.
Please make sure that you read the Agenda series (3 books) prior to reading this book. You will need to read those to "get" Jude prior to his story.
Well the best part about this is when you pick up a story by Dori you will not be disappointed. In this story we get an understanding of Jude. It covers his story from the time he was a child. I was biased going in, I hated Jude from reading the Agenda series. But Dori writes a story that left me feeling all kinds of emotions. In the end I my feelings for Jude were so confused.
If you like dark reads this is a must read series. It will draw you in and make you feel a roller coaster of emotions.
I received a gift copy in exchange for an honest review.
Just when I thought Ms Lavelle couldn't blow me away she did with this book.
Want to know what Jude MacKnight was like before he married Haley, well this is the book. Find out what made him the man he became and we meet Lacey the woman who brought out his dark side.
I actually felt for Terence aka Jude at the start of this book and how he was treated and what he went through. But with Lacey he had this softer side but it seems his dark side was waiting to just come out.
******Not for faint hearted some scenes are dark and if they are not for you don't read
It was interesting to see the events leading up to the His Agenda series. Watching Jude McKnight's descent into madness left me reeling.
This book is a standalone, however you should read book 1-3 of His Agenda first. A warning though. The story is definitely not for the faint of heart. It deals with certain themes and issues that will make some uncomfortable and possibly horrified. That being said, the author was able to keep my interest the entire book and there were parts that left me on the edge of my seat. If you can handle a dark book then I would say read this one.
If you read His Agenda series--- this is prequel is a most.... If you haven't you must read the whole series .... it is dark and dangerous. In Cold Deception you learn the things in life that made Jude Macknight the man he has become. I suggest reading the the series before reading Cold Deception. I couldn't put this book down.... Another great book from Dori Lavelle. Can't wait to see what she has in the works next ...
I can't believe how psychotic Terrence became. How he reset and became normal again and started the vicious cycle over again. He experienced a brutal upbringing, never feeling live and always feeling pain and bereft. I can say wholeheartedly that he was indeed insane and should have been institutionalized. How could Lacey not have ran and sought help? Marion is a puppet and he gets what's coming!
Team jude here so be warned. But thank you Dori for showing his past life as Terrance. Others needed to know what created the demons inside of him to understand him like I do. I love him even more. So sadden this wonderful story has come to a end and this was the perfect ending. My heart broke for him. Loved this series so much will always be one of my favorites.
I received an ARC for an honest review of Cold Deception (His Agenda 0.5) by Dori Lavelle
I had already read all three books in His Agenda Series by Dori Lavelle, but this prequel helped me comprehend why Jude is the way he is. Except for how do you define "insane?" This is certainly a page turner and the ending may me start back over with Veiled Obsession.
I was very impressed how it started and the ending. I was able to understand who Jude really was and how he met Lacey. Towards the end was sad but it was expected to end that way and for it to lead into how Haley fits in. Awesome read!
Although I started this book knowing Jude's fate because of the other three books, I still rooted for the love of Lacey and Jude. Poor Jude (yes, I said it) had a tragic childhood, and with a beginning so twisted, how could he be normal? Five excellent stars!
I really think this should be read after the first 3 books as it could spoil some of the plotlines if read first. This series is a complete mind-f"ck. There really is no other way to describe it. I thoroughly enjoyed the series, and loved how this book told how it all began and why.
