WHAT THEY HAVE LOST, WE MUST FIND...
The resistance has nearly been wiped out, its numbers reduced to a scant fraction of what they once were. Meyer has fallen. With hope nearly a memory, something must turn the tide of war.
A deadly weapon, known only as Thor’s Hammer, brings promise of salvation. Now, the scattered remnants of the human race must find the device and recover it before the aliens can discover its location. Because if the rampaging Astral forces beat them to the weapon, the fate of Earth will be sealed.
Fight for hope. Search for survival.

This relentless, page-turning tale of colonization and alien empire is the fourth in the completed Alien Invasion series.
Avery Blake is obsessed with all things sci-fi. She writes stories about the things that fascinate and occasionally terrify her and the potential futures humanity might have.
She expresses her hopes and fears through gripping tales where everyday people face extraordinary enemies, opportunities, and decisions. Her stories suck the reader into worlds where strange alien races have taken over, tech designed to make our world better gets out of hand, and robots make us question what it means to be human.
You’ll be hard pressed to find Avery, as she’s always on the move, staying one step ahead of the tracking bots (that are coming soon, if not already here).
Good book, it's not surprising, and I would rather give it 4 stars IF it was an standalone book somehow, but being part of the Invasion series, it is a corner stone book, a lot of what is coming in the following books will be based on what the heck happened in Annihilation, very few corner stone books are good at the same time as they lay the grounds for future histories.
Annihilation is interesting nevertheless, we understood a lot of the Astrals in this book, rather than uncovering more ground on the human characters, we understood how emotions affect Astrals and some other things that would be too much of big spoilers.
The main group that the history follows got a lot of help,A LOT OF HELP, in order to survive, or they even survived because the Astrals let them. It will be very very interesting to see how the events unfold in the next books, since the aliens will have no need for such humans anymore.
I received an advanced reader's copy of Annihilation, book 4 of Sean Platt and Johnny Truant's Invasion series, for review.
Annihilation is tough to review without spoilers; in many ways book 4 draws most of the story lines to a conclusion and sets them up to start over in a different place and new situation.
The first three books of the series were plot driven, setting the scene at Heaven's Veil and the race between the aliens and the rebels to find Thor's Hammer under The Apex. Annihilation is more character driven- as situations get more and more charged and both sides get more and more desperate most of the main characters have a big reveal at some point of the story. The Aliens are more slave to emotion than it seemed, Piper finds a hard center she didn't know she had, Cameron had a different relationship with his father than what he understood at the time. All of the characters still around by book's-end (several don't make it to the end) have this sort of a self-revelation that makes them 'more' of themselves, and drives the story through the first three-quarters of the book.
No character makes more of a transition that the hated Raj, who's self-pity and narcissism are fed by events to the point where he no longer seems sane. Many authors would write that sort of transition with a heavy hand and both make it unrealistic and turn Raj into a caricature. Platt and Truant handle it with deftness- he endures a horrible beating, the derision of his wife, and over the course of the book realizes that every single character he used to like is working against him. Except for his daughter, who doesn't particularly like the guy. Seeing this through Raj's eyes doesn't cause you to like him, but it does cause you to pity him as he careens towards self-destruction.
The final quarter of the book is an extended action sequence that jumps back-and-forth from the point of view of about a dozen different characters. Here again the authors show their chops- at no point did I get turned around and confused about what character I was reading or where they were in the story. This sequence is probably the best writing I have read by Platt and Truant so far.
The final few scenes set up the next volume in a way that makes you look forward to it, and it's back to playing the waiting game again
A ton of excellent character work is developed in this entry to the Alien Invasion saga by Sean Platt & Johnny Truant. Where previous books kind of faltered a little in bringing the characters to light, this one does so in spades. In particular, the characters of Raj, Nathan, and Cameron get to be in the spotlight in a lot of ways. For good or bad, depending on the character and where their allegiances lie, a lot occurs in the book. And although a lot of it is indeed setup for the next book in the series, this book actually had a number of plot developments I really didn't see coming. I've had a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around the 'mental' side of the aliens- er, Astrals. When described in regards to their connection with Meyer, the whole psychic/telepathic schtick seemed confusing, or vague at best. But that stuff has some huge changes this time around, as well as some other aspects of the Astrals' secrets revealing themselves. Very fun and looking forward to the next book in the series. Bingo! Spoiler: Meyer is a copy and I did guess that the Ark of the Covenant may be the secret holder of the knowledge. I still don't like the real Meyer or the copy. Have been thinking that their is another alien presence that is trying to disrupt the violence of the invading aliens. I feel that the invading aliens want the 'key' to destroy the secret knowledge in the Ark. The invaders are not the true race that came to the planet to seed it, they may have corrupted it. We shall see,
This is another good book in the series, and true to form for the others, ends on a cliffhanger. My only complaint, is the first 2 books are narrated by Ray Porter. Then, Audible switched narrators to Kevin Pierce. Both are absolutely wonderful narrators & are my top two picks for an audio book. However, when 1 narrator starts a series & gives a life to the characters, it's obviously just not the same as when a new narrator picks up the series. It made it hard to listen to this book.
Truant and Platt tell another wonderful story in Annihilation. Annihilation is the fourth book in the Alien Invasion Series and this book begins right after Raj shots Meyer and Cameron Piper escape from Cottonwood. This a great addition to the story and I can’t wait to start Judgement.
Im not a huge fan of the characters, not that theyre bad, but theyre not what keeps me coming back. The story is just fun and strange, which always makes me want to know where a story is going, and the writing is noticeably improving, which is fun to watch.
Just downloaded the next book while riding this f-ing treadmill 'cause I can't wait til I get home to start it! Get this series and prepare to miss work, sleep, and the company of those you love!
So Raj is a jerk. That's made abundantly clear throughout this story. The aliens are screwy and not as omnipotent as they seemed. I hope the next book is good.
After reading the last book, i felt that something was missing. Then after reading this book, it brought back what i love about this series. The what ifs and the a-has. The questions are being answered, slowly but surely. Cant wait to read the next one
This is one of my favorites in the series so far. We find out quite a bit more about the aliens and how things work. I enjoyed Clara's character getting more developed.
This book is a solid meh. This series started as a post apocalyptic prepper story with an alien twist. Later it moved to an alien invasion story. In this book it gets resurrection and becomes very metaphysical. I'm not sure I'll continue.
Well...I hate to jump on the bandwagon with other reviewers...but this book was tough read. I'm not one to abandon a book series, so I toughed it out...but...PHEW! Sure hope Book 5 is better!
The main characters have all become much tougher by this fourth book in the series, which is always an exciting dynamic. They become both more cautious and more willing to take risks with their own lives because their battles are over the survival of the human race. The character of Lila's boyfriend/Clara's father, Raj, is a really strange and pathetic young man who just never made it to adulthood with a good sense of loyalty to family, when to break rules, and when to follow them. His character does help the story move in unexpected directions. Even though he's the guy you'd wish would vaporize for no good reason, lots of action happens to everyone else because of his screwed up sense of duty. My favorite character is Piper, young wife and stepmother to two teenagers. She starts out as very sweet and somewhat self-centered, and becomes the strongest member of the family, holding everything together. When she leaves the family bunker to take a bigger role in the riskier action, her strength really starts to take shape. One character that never makes much sense to me is Lila's little daughter Clara, who talks and behaves like a mature person even though she's only a toddler. [She reminds me of Ren-esme – the hybrid human/vampire baby from the Twilight series of vampire books.] I think it's asking a lot of me as a reader to believe that a little human baby can talk and make sense of complicated relationships and far-away places because she's been affected by the clairvoyant aliens nearby since before she was born. Aside from that weirdness, I do really like the story.
I didn't review each book in this series as I read them, so I'll just say about Alien Invasion Books 1-4, by Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant, that I read them with great enthusiasm and stayed up late several nights to do it. I'll probably have to re-read a bit when I dig into the final 3 installments of the series because there are so many details and characters, but I look forward to the ride.
This book 4 of a 7 book series was a bit of a plodding filler that lost my interest. Time to move on to book 5, Judgment, to see if it can get back in gear and move the story along.
Lots of twists and turns in the latest edition of the Alien Invasion series. There are plots and counter plots, fast action, mysteries and finally some answers to questions we've had since the beginning. Of course the answers create more questions so don't think you'll walk away fully satisfied with your hard earned knowledge. And OMG this story has LOTS of death and destruction. You'll wonder if anyone is getting out of this thing alive. The humans who aren't busy being toadies are chasing after the key that unlocks Thor's Hammer and its a race against time and the ever present Astrals to find it before it's too late. I can't even get into details without giving a lot away so I wont. Just know that this book picks up the pace from Colonization and starts you on your rocket sled to either disaster or victory. According to the notes from the author there are 3 more entries planned to finalize this series - I can't wait to read them all.
I wasn't expecting to like this series as much as I did. The first book was free so I though why not try it? I thought it would be a predictable alien invasion book and in a way it was but for some reason it caught my interest. It took all the typical alien theories and incorporated them while at the same time turning them on their head. I was bummed that there are still 3 more books in the series but happy that they will all be released this year so I don't have to wait that long. I will definitely be reading more of Sean and Johnny's books - next up is Robot Proletariat.
Another cracking good read, with plenty of twists and turns. The authors promised answers and tying up loose ends. What I didn't expect was that there are three more books to come! So, not all the questions were answered or tied up. I was disappointed not to find a conclusion, so I deducted a star, but I do recommend it.
This Christmas, because of Annihilation, I slept way less than I would have, otherwise. I simply couldn't put the book down as I had to know what happens next.
I feel that at this point in the series, things are really getting up to speed. So, if you've read this far, picking this book is really a no-brainer. You'll like it.
Just finished this & couldn't put it down. The story moved the plot along nicely & left me anxious for the next one. It was nice to see all the characters getting back in the city together. Can't think of too much to say that wouldn't involve spoilers so I will just say that you won't be sorry if you buy this book.
