Waking up early was the most LIFE-CHANGING habit I ever did. In just a few weeks I was waking up 2 hours early every day and feeling more productive and happier than ever. This book will show you how I did it.
* Are you dissatisfied with your life? * Are you overwhelmed with obligations to everyone else but you? * Do you want more time to yourself? * Are you confused about your purpose? * Are you worried about the future? * Do you feel unhappy at work? * Are you seeking peace and quiet? * Are you feeling depressed and powerless in your life? * Do you feel like life is passing you by?
That's how I felt.
Trust me, I've tried and failed many times! I was addicted to the snooze button and lost momentum when I slept in on the weekends. I couldn't keep the habit and went on Amazon looking for morning routine books. Sound familiar?
I was able to string together days, weeks, and months of waking up early every day. I started feeling more alive, more enthusiastic, and more in control of my life. After a few months I felt like I had woken up to a deeper part of my self. My true self. I call this my awakening.
There are lots of books out there about waking up early and habit change. What you get withWake Up is a personal story of how someone just like you put all the advice into practice and saw massive change in his life. It's real, it's honest, it's inspirational.
But Jeff, I would love to wake up early, but I can't because...
Let me stop you there, friend. I know what you're going to say. You don't have time, right? You are already get too little sleep and there is NO WAY you could possibly wake up early. Maybe you have kids or family obligations that make it difficult to carve out time for yourself. All I can say is I hear you loud and clear. But this isn't the only excuse I've heard.
Do these excuses sound familiar?
* Not enough time * I'm not a morning person * Lack of self-discipline * I keep hitting snooze * I'm too tired in the morning * My family makes it difficult * I can't keep the habit consistent
Fortunately, I help you with all these excuses and more in Wake Up. After reading the book, you will have no excuses left! Now's the time to take action my friend!

I enjoy books that challenge me to see a particular subject differently than I did before. It's always refreshing to see another persons perspective and read about their life experiences that I can apply to my own life. Jeff captures his journey to find the right morning routine perfectly in his book "Wake Up". After I read his book front to back I felt like I had woken up! It really did change my life!
I'm someone who considers themselves a night owl like Jeff and a creatively driven individual that likes to switch up my routine to get the most out of my day and keep my life from becoming too mundane. This book has phenomenal tips and tricks on how to do just that! I've tried a handful of Jeff's suggestions in the book for ways turn off my brain before going to bed and ways that I can prepare for the morning that motivate me to get up and get going!
Not only does he talk about creating a morning routine that works for you but he also addresses creating new habits and how our habits affect us daily. He talks through his struggles and is very transparent which I appreciate because that resonates with me and I can relate to so many of his experiences.
I also appreciate all of the book, apps and podcast recommends at the end of the book. Eventually I'll get around to checking out all of his recommends!
Jeff FinleyWake Up: The Morning Routine That Will Change Your Life, is a how-to-guide for designing your ideal morning routine. Finley argues that waking up early, even if it is just an hour earlier than your usual time, helps you to build healthy habits that allow you to make beneficial changes in your life.
Finley suggests that the concept of night owls and early risers is myth and that everyone can learn how to become an early riser by preparing adequately for the attempt and sticking to the plan despite obstacles and other challenges that may make us question our habit-seeking purpose.
Finley wrote the book as a result of his own personal experiences in overcoming depression. Although Finley was extremely successful in his career, he was depressed because he didn’t feel as though he had time to pursue additional habits that sparked his creativity and curiosity. Finley started waking up early to focus on himself and take time to develop his own personal habits before becoming busy with the demands of every day life.
Wake Up: The Morning Routine That Will Change Your Life details Finley's experiences with learning how to meditate and including meditation in every day habits; journaling (Finley journals about his dreams each morning and writes in a "gratitude journal" each evening); exercise, and general learning.
What I really enjoyed about this book was the straightforward manner with which Finley lays out the way to become an early riser: essentially, just do it. Keep in mind all the reasons you've chosen to focus on yourself and use the book to help you carve out time in your daily life for meditation, journaling, exercise, and any other beneficial habits or pursuits that may ignite your passion.
If you think you don't have it in you to become an early riser and wake up early each day, think about what you really want in life? Are you truly taking time to pursue your own interests? Are you listening to the creative spirit inside of you that is nagging at you to learn more about a particular subject? As Finley asks, "Why are you here on this planet?" Taking time to reflect on these questions will definitely give you more perspective on your life and let you better determine whether or not your capable of putting in the effort it takes to use the extra hours in your day wisely. After all, even the busiest (and often, the most successful) individuals are often creatures of habit that often take time to exercise and pursue other interests in addition to their high-power, high-pressure careers and their families (umm..hello, Mr. President).
This book is absolutely worth the read. It's quick to get through and easily digestible in one sitting or broken up into multiple chunks. I would absolutely recommend! Are you ready to wake up??
love this book. its super motivating and simplifies the hows and whys of this (simpler than you think!) practice. I love how it opened my mind up to new ideas and ways to discover my own self improvement tools. I even started my own gratitude journal -- its really been a great tool in mindfulness and mybrecognizing my appreciation for things every day. i recommend reading with a highlighter nearby so you can highlight sources and other references for further reading on topics that could help ya along your early wakeup journey :). And I really appreciate the tiny handwritten thankyou inside the book. Thanks, Jeff!nice fewlnlikenwe have a lot of things in common. a great read 👍🏻👍🏻🙂
Way more than just a how to book, this is loaded with great resources and information for those looking to overcome inertia, depression and to live a better life.
Why do they allow anyone to write books pretending they’re experts? Why can anyone take their personal example, put a really tiny pinch of research and give the results to the world as it was a self help book, talking about personal development? This book makes me sad and quite angry.
Easy to read. It's a bit too much of a motivational kind of book which can get into your nerve. Also I believe there is nothing original in the book but more of a collection of other people ideas: Alan Watt's, Leo Babauta, Richard Rohr, the Pomodoro Tehnique etc...
I received this book through a Goodreads Giveaway.
written in an easy to read, conversational style, this book is half memoir, half lit review. But the lit review is not properly cited. Because the author does not always back up his claims with any evidence other than his own assertion, it lacks authority to me. Their are places where he acknowledges the information he is sharing came from a book he read, and there is a recommended reading list at the back, but it's a far cry from proper citation and a bibliography. There are also spots where the details of the author's personal narrative don't relate very well. For example, his early wake up time carving out extra time in the morning has him getting up at the same time or slightly after I already get up to make sure I get to work on time. In other places he uses phrases where he seems to expect his readers to know the insider terms used in the other books he's read or forgets that most people don't.
So, am I going to start waking up between 4:00 and 4:30 to carve out a morning routine similar to his? No. No, I'm not. But I have tried a couple of the smaller items he discusses as I was reading the book.
I believe that the author is being completely genuine in his belief that this has been life changing for himself and his desire to share it with other people. But maybe it fell into the wrong hands with me. I'm going to pass it on to someone who I think will appreciate it more.
I gave up a bit more than halfway through. This might be of interest to some people -- I've certainly enjoyed other books with a similar theme. But something about the author's style just didn't work for me.
