Title of Item in APA Citation: Minecraft beginners guide. (2013). San Francisco, CA : Cherry Lake Publishing.

Citation By: Lauren Rataj

Reference Type: Handbook

Call Number: Ref 794

Brief Description: This resource explains how to take your creative ideas and build them using the video game Minecraft.

Content/Scope: This handbook is targeted for younger student’s ages 9-12. It provides information on how to take creative ideas and use them using the virtual world of Minecraft. This guide will turn you into an expert in no time!

Accuracy/Authority/Bias: Cherry Lake Publishing is a company that provides resources to libraries and classrooms. They focus on creating resources for both teachers and students to prepare them for the 21st century.

Arrangement/Presentation: This resource is organized into sections. It begins with the basics on how to set up the game and begin creating your own virtual world. It then gets into more detailed skills within creating your own world (how to use the specific tools). There is an index, which makes referring back to topics easy to find.

Relation to other works: There are many types of handbooks out there within entertainment. Many are very specific by topic like this one. Other handbooks include Pokémon, Stitching, Star Wars, sports, etc.. I think that this is a great resource because many students are highly interested in this game, it stimulates creativity and problem-solving skills and it supports information inquiry skills for real-life purposes.

Accessibility/Diversity: This resource meets the needs of a specific interest, but can be used by students of all abilities. This resource does include illustrations and text features like headings, subheadings and graphic organizers throughout to support visual learners with the understanding process.

Cost: $14.21 paperback or $28.17 hardcover

Hardly counts, but it gave me a good idea on how to start with Minecraft and with an 8 year old, that's what I need!
