Küsse auf Gansett Island

Rate this book

This was primarily Owen and Laura's story where their relationship progresses beyond friendship. However, many of the couples of past stories are featured with significant updates along with future developing relationships.

I'm a big fan of multiple storylines as I love the continuity, especially in series with small town communities as is the setting here in Gansett Island. Each of the stories was interesting but because of the large number of people appearing, the book suffered from too much fragmentation. Owen and Laura's situations were meaty and deserved more page time. The ending felt rushed with a big gap between the last chapter and the epilogue, time I would have appreciated experiencing.

Despite my issues with distractions, this still was an interesting book. I just wanted more of Owen and Laura.

FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED

Let me begin by saying that it is GRRRRRRRRREAT!!!!

It just doesn't get much better than a trip back to Gansett Island where the lovefest between Owen Lawry and Laura McCarthy continues to heat up in Book 6 of this popular series. In addition, readers will find a separate short story bonus package at the end of SEASON FOR LOVE where a much anticipated invitation to a special holiday wedding awaits.

Owen Lawry is a travelin’ man. As that old song goes, “he’s been a lot of places and seen a lot of things” and, until he met Laura McCarthy, nothing has ever given him a reason to change his ways. How is that when love finally does come calling, THE ONE is already married and pregnant, too! It’s not by choice that Laura finds herself still married to the scumbag jerk. After all, he caused all the problems when he failed to stop dating after he met Laura at the altar and made her his wife. Now he refuses to turn loose and let her proceed with her life. Oh, yes, there are problems to be solved and decisions to be made – and it’s going to be a great journey to happily-ever-after for Owen and Laura.

Marie Force once again delivers a first-class addition to this series. She has succeeded in creating a place you want to keep visiting time and time again, where old friends return often with updates on their lives and new ones arrive to begin their journey. I don’t know how she keeps doing it but this author always does a fantastic job of keeping her stories and characters fresh and unique.

I’m a huge fan of all the “McCarthys of Gansett Island” books and highly recommend and encourage you to read each and every one. Caution: They are addictive!!

When’s my next trip to Gansett Island scheduled? I’m already packed and ready!

I feel so guilty giving this only two stars, but it just didn't work for me.

I loved the main characters of the previous books in the series, but their completely sappy anecdotes in this book just interrupted the flow of the story and completely threw me out of my reading trance several times.

Anyone who hasn't read the other books in the series will have NO clue who these people are, and it's a waste of exposition to give us their backstories. Readers like me who have devoured the previous books already know that McCarthys & Friends have the most romantic, sex-filled marriages ever, and one book for each couple is enough.

And then we get more Tiffany and Blaine. And now Carolina and Seamus. And now Dan and Kara. And now Jenny and whoever (probably Adam). It's just too many couples to care about, and I don't want to have to choose which chapters to skip.

I'm also getting very frustrated with the continuing emphasis on the "Let's Rebound Into A New Relationship With No Downtime Whatsoever!" theme. Janey. Sydney. Laura. Tiffany. I think the tourist brochures for Gansett Island must have a tagline like "Where Fabulous Single Men Appear Out Of Nowhere Whenever A Damsel In Distress Needs One."

Laura and Owen actually do discuss "she can't live without a man" (a thought planted by the Evil Ex-Husband), but it's quickly glossed over and forgotten. As a divorced single parent, I get *really* tetchy reading romances that ignore the struggle for self-esteem and self-sufficiency or treat it as an afterthought.

I'm also confused about Jenny the Lighthouse Keeper. We get an entire chapter of her sob story at the beginning, and then she's reduced to cameo appearances in two throwaway scenes. I know it's setting her up for her own storyline, but why include the tragic backstory here? And a "Tell Us Your Life Story" essay question might be believable for a college application, but not for a job.

I'm not ready to give up on this series yet, but I hope the next installment features more relationship building and less soap opera.

Season for Love is Owen and Laura's story.

It is the sweet, heartwarming, and entertaining and is the sixth book in amazing Gansett Island series. It features drama, angst, secrets and desires that kept me interested and invested.

Laura has finally found something worth staying for after leaving her husband for his cheating ways. But trouble comes when he won't give her the one thing she wants, a divorce

This could be read as a standalone but each book features another person on the island so I would read them all in order because if not you are missing out.

Make sure this one is on your TBR. I read it a few years ago and fell in love with the characters then and rereading now makes me realise why I loved this series so much.

I've been a fan of Force and the Gansett Island series since the first book, "Maid for Love". I've thoroughly enjoyed the progression of the series until this book. As with any series that is more than three or four books long, the weight of the previous books and the characters that populate it make this read too heavy. This book almost felt like an anthology. There were several separate sub-plots that were not related to the main characters of Owen and Laura (I love the main character's names in this story, which is probably why I didn't want to read about anyone else). The secondary stories didn't enhance the primary one, and in one case, actually eclipsed the main story line. Though I have read all of the previous books in this series, keeping up with everyone wasn't easy. I would have liked to explore more of Owen's past. I also would have liked to have seen Laura's previous relationship resolve differently. I didn't quite believe how easy it wrapped up in the end. Also, if anyone out there has not read all of the previous books, I would not recommend this one. The story lines would be too confusing if one didn't have all the background information.

In the beginning of the book Ms. Force says that this is the first book out since she has gone solo. Please, Ms. Force, concentrate your story and keep the sub plots to a minimum. The story lines taken individually are great, and the characters in and of themselves are very entertaining to read about. There are just too many of them running around in this book to keep track of. That said, I will definitely be on the pre-order list for the next book.

YES.
Y este maromo es que.. AYYYYYYYYYY. MADRE MIA DE MI VIDA.
Leed a Marie Force si queréis algo sencillo, contemporáneo y cuqui. De verdad. Lo vale.

2.5 Stars - I was looking forward to Owen and Laura's story, but this book just didn't work for me. I felt like it rambled all over the place without ever really going anywhere. Given the circumstances with Laura's soon-to-be ex and her condition plus budding relationship with Owen, I expected an emotional read with some angst, a little conflict, and lots of "feelings" before a hea. For me, it flat-lined. I bumped my rating up because I have enjoyed this family including friends & neighbors and the beautiful setting of Gansett Island. There are some great characters in the series including really good-hearted, hot guys and beautiful, strong-willed women. Many love this series and this book. I really wanted to, but it just didn't happen.

Another marvelous addition to The McCarthy’s Gansett Island series. This story was jam packed with love, love , love and sex, sex, sex. Not that it was erotica, there were so many side stories, engagements, new pregnancies, old pregnancies and I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the previous stories’ H&h’s getting it on. I like that Marie Force keeps the love stories from her previous books in the series alive. You invest so much time with them it is good to feel they are still going strong or still overcoming conflicts.

The main love story between Owen and Laura started playing out in the previous book, Hoping for Love. So much was already set and in motion for their relationship that although this was suppose to be their book it was filled with much more of interactions with the rest of Gansett Island townies. Owen was such a good caretaker of Laura. He always knew the right words and just how far to go or push in their relationship. Since Laura was 3 months pregnant with her douchebag, soon to be ex-husband’s baby, Owen was there to comfort her and pick up the pieces.

Even though I thought the book was wonderful there were a lot of subplots and situations that aren’t what I think as stimulating or in my comfort zone. I sort of put on blinders at first and that being said they didn’t overly bother me as I read further and I ended up loving Owen and Laura’s relationship.

I am also very excited for future books and relationships that were hinted to. Jenny Wilkes fiancé was lost to the World Trade Centers in 2001. Her story she told for the set up of a future book was gut wrenching. It came right at the beginning of SfL and had me sobbing. Another new character was Kara and she has come to the island for a new business venture with the McCarthy’s. Both look promising, as well as, the hot Blaine and his nature to take on lost causes. Can’t wait!!

4 stars because I was very confused with all the extra plots and characters thrown in the mix and I wanted more time for just Owen & Laura however I love getting reaquanited with the rest of the islanders. I feel connected to them even though they are fictional characters. Each couple is still going through their little dramas or big milestones that endure me as a reader and keep me coming back. Like the big news Joe & Janie had! I loved their book, so it's great hearing about them. That said, there are an unusual amount of sideline stories going on. One was with Joes mother and the very sexy Seamus another which I'm most looking forward to is Tiffany and Blaine. Even though this could be read as a stand-alone I do not recommend it. You will be very dizzy and more confused than me. Many great stories progressing, plus a bonus Luke & Syd story at the end. I'm not spoiling what it's about, you have to read it yourself. Until next time Gansett Island.

I’m enjoying this series. And one of the reasons why is because you get glimpses of all the characters from the previous books. But this time it seemed the author was determined to make sure we knew ALL the couples were still happy and they were ALL having fantastic sex. As good as that is to know, that means less actual time spent with the main couple of the book. I hope it’s not a new pattern with the series because I want actual stories, not just steam!

Another great read in this series. Owen has been a favourite character of mine throughout this series, so it's great to see him get his happy ending. I also loved that new characters are still being introduced. That's means lots more books to read!

Season for Love is the sixth book in Marie Force’s Gansett Island series. This one focuses on an HEA for Evan McCarthy’s best friend, Owen, and the McCarthy’s cousin, Laura. The pair met a couple of books ago when Owen started renovating his grandparents’ old Victorian hotel, The Sand & Surf, and hired Laura to manage the place. Laura was nursing a broken heart after finding out her brand new husband hadn’t been faithful, while trying to figure out what to do after discovering that she was pregnant with his child. At the point where this story begins, Owen and Laura have been living at the hotel for the past few months while working on it, and during that time, Owen has been there for Laura every day, through her bouts of morning sickness. At the end of the previous book, Owen, a formerly itinerate musician, had just decided to give up his winter gig on the mainland to stay with Laura. They’re both longing to deepen their relationship, but her husband has refused to give her a divorce and is making life difficult for them. She also has yet to tell him about the baby, and Owen feels it’s important for her to at least do that before they take things any further between them. Unfortunately her husband doesn’t react well, insulting Laura and letting her know that he hired a private investigator who’s been following her around. Laura reluctantly gets her father, a respected judge, involved to try to put pressure on him, but it leads to him making an ultimatum that neither Owen nor Laura have any intention of giving in to. About that time, Owen’s mom makes a surprise visit, revealing more of the childhood Owen has been hesitant to talk about and it isn’t pretty. Worrying about how the events unfolding with his mom might affect Laura’s divorce, he suggests that it might be better to temporarily separate, but Laura is determined to stand by the man who has always stood by her. Meanwhile, we get lots of updates and romance from the other residents of Gansett Island.

No one except his best friend, Evan, has ever known about the terrible struggles of Owen’s growing up years. The only respite he got from those times were the summer visits to his grandparents on Gansett Island, where he has wonderful memories of the Sand & Surf hotel. Because of his Air Force general dad, the family moved around a lot, and that nomadic lifestyle continued into his adult years. For most of the past decade, he’s spent his life on the road, living out of a VW van and playing gigs as a musician at various venues that included summers at the Tiki Bar on Gansett. When his grandparents retired, they gave stewardship of the Sand & Surf to Owen who has decided to renovate it to its former glory. He hired Laura to help out and run the place once it’s ready to serve guests again, and has been enamored of her since the moment they met. Since he found out that she’s pregnant, he’s barely left her side and even canceled his winter gig to stay on the island with her. He never thought he’d find a reason to settle down, but Laura inspires him to want to stay in one place for the first time in his life. The only thing standing in the way of Owen taking his relationship with Laura to the next level is her loathsome husband who refuses to sign the divorce papers. Or at least he thought so until his mom unexpectedly shows up, leaving him having to explain his horrible childhood to the woman he loves and worrying how it might affect them moving forward. Owen is the sweetest guy, a giver and a caretaker, who has definitely become one of my favorite Gansett heroes. I started to fall for him from the moment he tenderly cared for Laura through her first bouts of morning sickness, and he’s still there by her side every step of the way, holding her up through all the difficulties they face. There aren’t many men who would stick by a woman who’s pregnant by another man and wholeheartedly want to be a father to her baby. Owen, without a doubt, has Golden Retriever energy, loyal and kind to a fault when it comes to those he loves.

Laura is a cousin to the main McCarthy clan, with her father, Judge Frank McCarthy, being a brother to Big Mac. After her mother died, she, too, often spent time on Gansett with her uncle and aunt while growing up. She recently married a lawyer who she discovered right after the wedding was cheating on her. She immediately ended things with him and filed for a divorce, then went to Gansett to nurse her wounded heart. There she found a friend in Owen who hired her to manage the Sand & Surf and help him get it ship shape. When Laura realized she was pregnant with her ex’s baby, Owen was there to scoop her up off the bathroom floor every morning and gently care for her through the worst part of her pregnancy. Now he’s given up his winter gig just for her, and she wants nothing more than to deepen their relationship, but her ex won’t sign the divorce papers. He also doesn’t yet know about the baby and Owen thinks it’s important to clear the air with him about that before they take things further. He accompanies her to the meeting with her ex and stands by her side through more nastiness. Laura hopes that her father can put enough pressure on her ex to convince him to let her go, but only time will tell. Meanwhile, when Owen’s mom shows up out of the blue, she learns the terrible truth about his childhood that he’s always been reluctant to talk about. Owen worries how that might affect the divorce proceedings, but Laura isn’t about to leave the man who’s given her so much. Laura is a kind, big-hearted person who’s been through a lot. In the face of her ex’s shenanigans, she shows a lot of grace and fortitude. He does manage to get to her when they meet, but Owen is there to help pull her out of her funk. I love that when Owen is the one who has to face his past, Laura is there for him in the same way he’s been there for her.

Because Owen and Laura’s story has already been unfolding throughout the last couple of books, their part in Season for Love only accounts for a fraction of the narrative. The rest is populated by the continuing stories of past and future heroes and heroines. We get updates on all the former characters, including Mac and Maddie (Maid for Love), Joe and Janey (Fool for Love), Luke and Sydney (Ready for Love), Grant and Stephanie (Falling for Love), and Evan and Grace (Hoping for Love). Without getting too spoilery, I’ll say that two of these couples take the next steps in their relationships, one hits a rough patch and must find their way through it to the other side, and one receives a very unexpected surprise. While waiting for news on his recording contract, Evan gets a tempting business proposal from Ned. Tiffany and Blaine haven’t seen each other alone since their passionate encounter in the previous book. Tiffany is still working through her own painful divorce, but Blaine makes it abundantly clear that he expects her to let him know when it’s finally over. Theirs is the next book, Longing for Love, and I can’t wait to see more of them together. David puts in a couple of appearances when a doctor is needed. He’ll be the hero of the ninth book, Time for Love. We’re introduced to Jenny, the new lighthouse keeper who has a tragic backstory, but she’ll get her own HEA in the tenth book, Meant for Love. We get a quick visit with Slim when he flies Owen’s mom to the island. He’ll be the hero of book #15, Desire After Dark. Although they aren’t really seen in this book, Laura’s brother, Shane, and Owen’s sister, Katie are mentioned, and they’ll become the focus couple of book #12, Kisses After Dark. We were also introduced to Kara and Dan who just got a new spin-off book. Additionally there’s a steamy, age-gap romance that begins between Joe’s mom, Carolina, and Seamus, the charming Irishman Joe hired to run the ferry service while he’s with Janey in Ohio. Once they get going, these two can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, but Carolina is reluctant to take things beyond a one-night stand because of their age difference. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next for them, as I’m sure their story will play out as a secondary romance in future books.

I really don’t know how Marie Force does it, but somehow she’s made me love every book in the Gansett Island series so far. Season for Love is certainly no exception. It’s just the latest of her books to land on my keeper shelf. I adore Owen and Laura and think they’re perfect for each other. They make a great team, both in their work on the hotel and in their personal lives. They share a heartwarming bond and are so giving and loving toward one another. Their chemistry is also off the charts, making their love scenes equal parts emotional and sexy. I loved the secondary romance for Seamus and Carolina. I instantly fell for Seamus when he was first introduced. I was hoping he’d get a book of his own and was a little disappointed when I didn’t see his name attached to any of the other books of the series. I’m glad that he’s finally getting some page time. He’s a dream lover who’s tied poor Carolina in knots over their age difference. However, since he doesn’t seem inclined to take no for an answer, I have a feeling he’s eventually going to wear her down. I adored all the updates on our past couples and where things are in their lives now. There’s lots and lots of romance and loving going on, on Gansett. There must be something in the water.:-D I also enjoyed meeting new characters, as well as the updates that will propel characters we already know into the spotlight. I can’t express how much I enjoyed Season for Love and the series in general. Gansett is such a warm and welcoming place that seems to provide healing and hope for all who come there. Not to mention there are so many hot, sexy men who know how to treat a lady right. It all makes me wish it was real place so I could visit. (Yes, I know it’s based on a real island and maybe someday I’ll make it there, but Gansett will always just be a place that only lives in the hearts and minds of the author and her readers.) In any case, I’ve loved the journey so far and can’t wait to continue, because there’s a great deal of story left to explore.

A Gansett Island Wedding – Bonus short story. “A Gansett Island Wedding” is included at the end of Season for Love and it walks readers through Luke and Sydney’s wedding day, which also happens to be Christmas Eve. High school sweethearts separated when she went to college, they were reunited years later after Sydney went through an extreme tragedy in which she lost her entire family to a drunk driver and Luke was there to help her pick up the pieces. These two have waited so long for their happy ending, so this bonus story was very welcome. It’s obvious how perfect they are for each other. Neither feels much trepidation on their big day, only a sense of calm and rightness that they’re finally together. It was a beautiful moment with all their closest friends and family present, followed by a joyful party and some red hot lovin’. I look forward to seeing a lot more of this core couple in future books of the series.

Here is the deal. I have enjoyed every book in The McCarthys of Gansett Island companion series, but I have definitely enjoyed some more than others. I have been waiting for Laura and Owen to get their happily ever after for a long time. They were first introduced into to the series a couple of books ago and they have been flirting around each other ever since. I was really looking forward to this novel, but unfortunately, I was left a little disappointed.

Season of Love was a good story, but it wasn't my favorite story in The McCarthys of Gansett Island companion series by Marie Force. I keep having the same "issues" with this series. In my opinion, Ms. Force spends too much time going back to old characters and introducing new characters and not enough time focusing on the main characters. I really enjoyed every second Owen and Laura were the focus of this novel, but unfortunately, they didn't get enough attention for my liking.

There was a new character introduced in this novel that I really, really loved. She has had a heartbreaking past. Her back story brought tears to my eyes. I can't wait to see her get a happily ever after.

I am also really excited about the next book in the series. Tiffany, Maddie's sister, has become one of my favorite characters in this. She is a tough character, but she also has a soft, more vulnerable side too. I can't wait to get to know her character more in the next book in the series.

I gave Season of Love by Marie Force 3 STARS (3.5 STARS). I recommend this series to adults who like to curl up with a good romance novel.

-XOXO

I loved this book.... Owen and Laura are great... That's saying a lot coming from me... I'm totally in love with Mac and I thought nothing could top Maid for Love. But Season for Love is definitely up there.

One of the things that I love about Marie's writing is that she is constantly introducing you to new characters. This is a good thing, because it leads you to think that the series could possibly to go on forever.

In this book we’re introduced to Carolina Cantrell, Joe’s mother, Sarah, Owen’s mother, and a couple of others who I think have the potential to become lead characters in other books.

There are some surprises in the book, without a doubt.

Owen, the laid back surfer dude, has a very interesting past. You definitely find out more about him. However I just wish there was a little bit more. Despite everything, he’s wonderful.

I felt as if Laura’s ending was a little rushed. I just think that some of the steps should have actually played out for us the readers to see and happen a little sooner, if not differently than it did. (I know, I’m not telling you very much. But I hate when people give away all the details.)

Season for Love is definitely one of my top ten books.

I highly recommend it!

***SPOILER ALERT***

Owen is used to life as a musician, always on the move & going where the gigs take him. This winter things take a change in his life.

Laura is a recently married woman (cousin to the McCarthy clan). Laura's marriage has gone terribly wrong in short couple of months.

Laura is now back on the island she loves with her aunt, uncle, & all the cousins she loves. Owen steps into her life & turns everything including his own life upside down.

Laura & Owen fall fast & hard for one another but can not be together officially until Laura's husband releases her from there situation. Laura's father & Big Mac's brother has to step in to make that happen.

I like this relationship for the fact that I have a major crush on Owen. His whimsical ways & charm take my breath away. Owen's love for Laura is unquestionable. The "surfer dude" is a romantic & great caretaker. We see more of Owen's story of how he became such a wonderful man & giver with his mother entering the picture.

This story ends wonderful & there is a short story on Sydney & Luke's wedding. I just downloaded the 7th story of this series. Hopefully I don't have to wait to long before the next one is out.

The story line was well written and the characters were great
but it was a bit confusing at times. There were just so many
different stories going on. I wanted it to be more about
Laura & Owen, there were just so little of their story and
more of the other couples stories. Don’t get me wrong, I love
the other couples but I wanted this book to be truly about
Laura & Owen.

Owen Lawry has made a living as a traveling musician and
enjoys his footloose and fancy free lifestyle. But after
meeting Laura McCarthy and helping her to land the job as
manager of his grandparents' hotel on Gansett Island, Owen
decides there's something to be said about a roof over his
head and a warm, sexy woman in his bed. As Owen and Laura's
attraction simmers during months of close proximity, they form
a tight bond that will be tested when her estranged husband
refuses to grant her a divorce.

I was a bit disappointed because I wanted this book to be
more about Laura and Owen, they’re love story is so sweet and
I wanted more! They were barely scenes with them and I was just frustrated. At times I wanted to burn the book. Don’t get me
wrong, the book was great but confusing at times.
I just wish the book was written differently with more of Laura
and Owen.

This book was terrific! SO much page time spent with former characters. Not just a sentence to catch you up either, there were pages and pages updating each couple from the previous books. It was like sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner with the family you only get to see on Thanksgiving. :)

And we got a look at characters that I hope will be getting their own stories soon. Ms. Force can do no wrong!

If I had one teeny, small caveat it would be that all the catching up left us less time for Owen and Laura. But this isn't a problem as we've gotten to know them already and they did get plenty of face time.

Wonderful installment. Might be my favorite.

I really did enjoy reading this series up until this point. I kind of got attached to the characters, and I was eager to see where the author went with them. However, in Season For Love, I was super disappointed. There were far too many subplots, and everything wrapped up just a little too neatly at the end for Laura and Owen. And as for Seamus and Caroline? YUCK! Honestly, I have no problem with age differences, but I had hoped for something else with Seamus. Something that didn't involve a 56-year-old woman. The whole situation just wasn't convincing, and was kind of...EW.

I can't say I'll read any more of this series after this book.

Mmmm.. I love how Ms Force writes and I love her books, but in this one there's too much things going on. I'm used to have each book in series concentrating mostly to one couple, while the others previous ones are mentioned in the background; here all the couples are main couples! And, in addition, there're other, new couples are in making! It's just too much! I'll read the next one 'cause I want to see what happens, but I would like the return to the "normal" way! :D

quattro stelle e mezzo oneste

SEASON FOR LOVE is the book that broke the camel’s back. After five other books, I would think that reintroducing all the characters and giving a brief synopsis of their ‘book’ would not be necessary. Don’t get me wrong, I like having a brief reminder of couple and book, but not the constant repetition that has plagued this series since book two. I’m a series reader, which means I make sure I start a series from book one. If the author is on book five, I read book one first. If others can’t do that than they should just accept not knowing about the past characters. I swear a hundred pages could get knocked off if there wasn’t so much ‘catching up’.

My other complaint, I promise I have good points too, is the side stories. This book went towards left field with bringing in parents and new characters. The storyline that really turned me off on this book was Joe’s mother Carolina getting together with Seamus O’Grady. Three reasons, one he’s 18 YEARS YOUNGER THAN HER. Sorry but that type of love isn’t for me. The woman has to in her fifties since Seamus is 38 if I remember correctly. I mean seriously? Force couldn’t give him a woman closer to his age? I mean Joe is two years younger than Seamus! That’s like dating her son. My second irk over this love interest is that Seamus is who Joe hired to run the business while he’s away with Janey. Lastly the constant back and forth that Carolina went through. The “I can’t be with you, it’s not right’ phase, to “I deserve to be happy” phase!” Ugh sickening to read about.

The time warp at the end was really uncharacteristic for Force. The book ends relatively unsettle as Laura just convinced Owen she’s not leaving just because his family mess might blow up and then next thing is the epilogue and she’s having her baby….what happened to the four months?

And it’s not like nothing happened in those months. Luke and Sydney got married, her brother Shane came to help with the renovations and his mom Sarah helped her with the hotel as she progressed through the pregnancy, so a lot was skipped over that I found not satisfying.

Now, the long awaited good parts…..let’s see, I liked Laura and Owen to an extent. This was sort of like the Luke and Sydney book, in a way that I just hadn’t connected with Laura like I had the McCarthy boys and Janey. I felt having so much of Owen and Laura’s story build up in the previous book really let the steam out of this one.

Owen had already committed to stay and their feelings were already developed. I did like how they dealt with her husband Justin, but felt the end resolution between them happened too easily since they hadn’t made any headway throughout the book.

There wasn’t too much other the McCarthy sons. Grant and Stephanie had a hard time until Grant changed the one thing that made Stephanie doubt their relationship by putting a ring on her finger.

Evan gets a music offer from Ned that picks him out of the dump he was in waiting for news on his Cd.

As for Owen and Laura there big ‘upset’ was facing Justin and his mom’s sudden appearance and the reveal of his abusive childhood. But Laura doesn’t hold it against Owen for having an abusive father.

Their love was nice and I enjoyed them together, but this story just wasn’t close to being as good as the others for me, but don’t let this totally ruin your opinion because I had doubt coming into this that probably colored my feelings. I’m interested in reading Tiffany and Blaine’s story next.

Before talking about 'Season for Love', I'll talk about the short story Marie included at the end.
The short story's about a wedding in Gansett Island and I absolutely loved it. I'm so happy to know that certain characters from book 3 had come this far. I got so emotional that I almost cried (happy tears of course) while reading it. 5 stars to the short story (which I wish could've come separately so I could rate it on its own with the stars it deserves).

Now, let's talk about 'Season for Love'. (3 stars)

It is book 6 in the McCarthy's of Gansett Island series and can work as a stand alone but you won't enjoy it as much if you haven't read the previous five books, because Marie Force is so awesome and selfish (love her for it) she couldn't not include previous characters. That alone made extremely happy. I loved loved that we got to keep up with the other couples.
One complaint of mine about the previous book was that there wasn't enough of them and this time Marie didn't disappoint because there was information about every one . And if you're like me, who's loved the series from book 1, you won't be disappointed and will love it as much as I did. Different from other people, I didn't think their participation took the spotlight from the main couple:

Laura & Owen.

Thanks to the previous books we know that:
Laura is Mac, Janey, Grant, Evan and Adam's cousin who found out her husband hadn't stopped dating (little time after they got married) and decides to stay in Gansett after Janey's wedding. There, she finds out she's pregnant and one amazing guy aka Owen (the handsome musician who's best friends with Evan) decides to help her.

Their story started as friendship and slowly grew into love which finally exploded in a wonderful way in this book. Finally, both decided to fight for what they want.
Me, being a witness to their love story from day 1, couldn't stop smiling. It was a beautiful progress. It was real. So... why only 4 starts?

Unfortunately for me, I felt it ended abruptly. I turned the page and there was en epilogue and then there was no more. I'm pretty sure we'll see more of them in upcoming books but still, it ended all so fast. Don't get me wrong, I loved that one of their main problems was fixed, but a part of me didn't believe it entirely because I've already believed that Justin was a douchebag. Anyway, I could've easily ignored that part and give it a better rating, but then Joe's mother appeared and she got a story with a friend of Joe and it was totally unexpected. But not the kind of good unexpected and that... that's the thing keeping me from giving this book more. Love comes when you least expect it with someone unexpected and shouldn't be ignored, but in this case... I couldn't get used to it.

Still, in spite of that storyline, 'Season for Love' is a great addition to the series and can't be skipped.
I'm certainly looking forward to 'Longing for Love' (Tiffany and Blaine's story *happydance*) and then Adam's, who I'm curious about because he's been the McCarthy with less participation. I want to know more about him.

I can't wait to have those two books in my kindle, so Marie, don't take long pretty pretty please. :)

First and foremost, with this series all the books are basically the exact same so you can’t really say much about the storyline or characters. The characters are all one dimensional; they haven’t really changed at all in entire series it seems. So the only thing you really can review is the author and book in general. First let’s get to the negative… again this book also gives insight to the other residents/McCarthy’s as well and normally I don’t mind it…I love hearing about the others…but in this book I wish 90% of it would have been more about Owen and Laura….there story has such a great love story potential….also after all these books I’m kind of getting annoyed with the author giving the other residents real life issues to overcome but they don’t really struggle to overcome those issues..they just treat it as no big deal, brush off their shoulders…meaning…with Mac and Maddie…where Mac was waiting for Maddie six week check b/c they haven’t been intimate together in a LONG time. It’s always so lovey dovey and perfect…no marriage is that damn perfect, or how Janey wasn’t at all distraught and overwhelmed about finding out she’s pregnant while still having 2 yrs left of school to go..these are certain issues that can come between a newly married couple and they could fight together to overcome the disappointment…but noooo they were just as perfect as Maddie and Mac…if you are going to insert these characters into the ENTIRE book at least throw a monkey wrench in there so we can still see how strong their love really is…make this book a great romance/drama series… I want to see these characters true/raw emotions during a serious crisis, I want to see them grow and mature through the years..not always I love you, I love you, I love you, let’s have sex…it’s unrealistic…so I guess that’s the kind of books Marie Force writes…”Fantasy” books… which if she put a little drama and creativity into it she can be big as Danielle Steele.
Ok so let’s get on with the positive stuff now…which isn’t long to talk review because nothing has changed from the last time really…In regards to Owen, it takes a special man to take care and love an already pregnant woman…especially with all the issues Laura has surrounding her…but I just love Owen to death…he is such a damn good hero. You can just breathe in the love he has for Laura and feel the emotions he goes through to keep her and make things work with her. You can tell he loves that baby too. I was excited to see their love grow into something special. I’m very glad this couple has another book out just for them.. (I hope it’s more about them)…Gansett After Dark.
