Who among us has not reached a barren place in our prayer life? Perhaps our circumstances overwhelm us and our thoughts and words refuse to flow. Or the need of the moment seems so enormous we aren’t certain how to ask. Like the disciples asking Jesus to teach them to pray, we yearn for guidance on re-energizing our prayers. PrayerPoints offers hope for those in need of prayer help. Stamped on the cover is this reminder:

The LORD is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth.
Psalm 145:18 NLT

The book’s leather-like cover and detail give PrayerPoints a collector’s feel, but the handy size reminds the reader this is not a book intended to occupy space on a shelf. PrayerPoints is a practical tool we can utilize in our daily walk.

I paged through looking for the names of the contributors for the 200+ entries in the work, but found none listed. The authors created this helpful work but left the credit to God alone. Each article points the reader to God’s Word as a basis for hope in prayer.

Readers will find a common format in the entries. The topic is coupled with a sub-title and a short paragraph defining the problem. Does this apply to me? If so, I can read on. If not, I can move on. In the section, God’s Promises, readers are pointed to applicable Bible verses in easy-to-read versions of Scripture such as NLT, ESV, MSG, and NIV. Next is a paragraph with suggestions on how to pray and claim the promises. Last is an action for the reader to employ in digging deeper and asking God’s help.

PrayerPoints offers two indexes. The first, Guide to Prayer Topics, organizes the entries by topic (emotional, physical, relational, or spiritual). The second, Scripture Index, also organized by topic, allows the reader to locate Scripture that addresses the problem under investigation. These features make PrayerPoints a ready-reference.

Who might enjoy a copy of PrayerPoints? The attractive volume makes this a thoughtful gift, and the book is small enough to tuck into a book bag, purse, or briefcase. Pastors, counselors, and friends who reach out to help others will enjoy the book’s practicality. Believers seeking fresh air in the prayer life or guidance on overcoming prayer blocks will appreciate the lessons in PrayerPoints.

"Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere." (Ephesians 6:18, NLT)

There we have it. We are to pray at all times for all things for all believers. Everywhere. Everything.

Every single aspect of life can be affected or impacted by the power of prayer. Most of us would readily agree. So why can prayer be such a struggle at times?

There are times when a need strikes or emotions run high when we just cannot think clearly. Yet those are the moments we desperately need a Scripture to hold onto for hope and courage. It is then, we need to pray the most.

In his book, PrayerPoints: Praying God's Promises at Your Point of Need, Ken Petersen has compiled Scriptures and prayers to guide us in our time of need. This little book contains 250 entries addressing 170 varied topics.

There is a description of the of the emotion or problem faced. Each topic includes Scriptures pertaining to the need and a prayer. There is also a little action point after each prayer which gives opportunity to sit and listen for God's voice and direction.

The topics are arranged in alphabetical order making this a resource not only wonderful for personal use but one that is a quick "go-to" when looking for encouragement to give to others. Some of the topics included are abandonment, addiction, adversity, insecurity, physical ailments, relational problems, disappointment with God, finding the will of God, and fatigue.

There is also a guide to prayer topics and a Scripture index located in the back of the book for quick and easy access in ministering to others.

The book is bound in a beautiful imitation leather which is sure to hold up as this will be a book used for years to come by each reader.

Do you ever need a verse to claim that pertains to a certain situation in your life, and you just don’t know where to start? Do you ever need recommendations on how to pray about that situation? This is the book for you! This book takes many common topics and gives you a few of God’s promises, several verses and a sample prayer to make your own dealing with each topic. Topics include things like cancer, depression, life as a mother, etc.

This book reminded me of the Bible Promise Book, but a little more in depth than just listing verses for each topic. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because a lot of times I feel like I need a specific verse to claim when I’m dealing with something, and often I can find them on my own, but I love that this book had several topics that spoke to me and with each topic verses that I can claim as my own and take them to God in prayer. I highly recommend this as a great resource for all Christians, because sometimes you just don’t know how to pray for something, and this gives some good jump starts for when you want to cry out to God but just can’t find the words.

What a beautiful book, from the soft immitation leather cover with trees and Psalm 145:18 ("The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.") embossed into it down to the silken book mark, this is such a lovely book. It is very small and could easily be tucked into your purse. But the real draw of this book is the topics of prayer enclosed in the pages.

Say for example, life is starting to bear down on you and you are feeling overwhelmed but you are at a loss for words as to what exactly to pray for. An index in the back will point you to a page in the book with a prayer written especially for how you are feeling. Whether you're dealing with emotional abuse, addiction, depression, church problems, conflicts in your marriage or your kids are driving you nuts, there's a suggested prayer as well as scripture suggestions to provide encouragement.

This is a book perfect for a newish believer like myself who finds prayer both difficult and somewhat awkward. While I'm working on my communication with God, I feel grateful to have this tool when I know I need some guidance and suggestions when praying for the really important issues in my life.

PrayerPoints: Praying God's Promises at Your Point of Need is the perfect for when you are not sure how to express yourself regarding challenges you are facing.
Prayer Topics are listed in alphabetical order in the back. They are also listed by scripture; this gives you the specific scripture and the page number in the book which I found very handy. For each topic scriptures are listed for that topic and then a prayer using God’s promises on that specific topic.

This book is a great addition to anyone’s prayer life. In addition to using it for your personal reference, you can also easily share a scripture with a friend when they are dealing with a specific issue.

My copy of Prayer Points has a leather-like cover and great detail which gives it the feel of a gift edition. You can also purchase it as an ebook.

As a new Christian, I often have problems discerning the "holding God accountable" part, as I don't exactly know what I'm holding him accountable to. I'll be the first to admit I don't know all the scriptures. I may never. I also don't know what to refer to when praying for something specific.
So when I had the chance to review this book, I jumped.
First impression: I love the beautiful look of this book. While the small book cover is a little awkward, the feel of the covers itself is wonderful. It's very soft and sleek, and smooth to the touch.
The book allows you to search for any topic you want to pray over, and it will assist you in locating the scripture associated, and how to pray God's Promise over you.
There are great topics you wouldn't ordinarily search out, including the challenge of being a parent, and fear of dying.

When I first saw this book I was surprised it was so small but then I realized, its a good thing because it can fit in my purse and I can take it everywhere with me. I also noticed how beautiful the cover its leather or faux leather like material. I love that the front of the book has the scripture:

Psalm 145:18 ("The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.")

This book is a blessing I love the fact that you can tap into gods promises when you are at your point of need. For instance say you are feeling worried about a certain situation in your life, you can look in the book and find scriptures related to gods promises like: Philippians 4:6-7( "Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying pray".) No matter what you are going through you can go and read the prayer points and meditate on gods promises, this is a must have book its a bless that everyone needs to carry with them daily.
