This is second in a weird little series and it picks up right after the first with plot and character arcs already on track. I definitely recommend reading in order. Let me rephrase. Don't read out of order.

You know most of what to expect with this in terms of relationship and character progression. So I'll leave out those parts. And it turns out that the only thing I want to talk about are huge, story-long spoilers. So take the spoiler warning to heart and stop now if you ever want to read this book yourself. You have been warned.

What killed it for me is that there's a buried conflict that presents itself right up front and it remains the sole source of conflict for the entire story. And it shouldn't be a spoiler, unless you've never read a romance story before, that it eventually produces a dark moment as it blows them up.

So I was prepared for that and followed the fall-out wondering how this could ever be reconciled. And I'm not happy with the result, and this is the huge spoiler I warned about. I hate, so very much, that we get the reveal at the end that it was all a plot/manipulation by Jasmine the entire time. I'm sorry, but that tore the heart out of this story for me, sucking all of the love and romance and replacing it with a puppet master calling the tune the entire tune. Jasmine told Moirai to keep the secret and let it blow up for reasons so it was all a manipulation the entire time. And that means Moirai is keeping a secret in the end that would devastate Sapphire to learn. So we end, not with honesty and a reforged relationship built on trust and lessons learned but with caving to a manipulator. And it doesn't matter if that sentence is aimed at Moirai or Jasmine because Moirai has become as much Sapphire's manipulator as Jasmine is by following Jasmine's guide and not telling Sapphire about it.

And I just dropped this from the three stars I had planned when I thought it was all just weak to one star now that I realize it was way worse than weak, it was a betrayal of Sapphire on the deepest level possible. Sapphire deserves better and I'm sad she has been left tied to these heartless automatons masquerading as people.

A note about Steamy: While there is lots of sex happening, only a few scenes are on-page leaving this on the low end of my steam tolerance. I hate that I don't like any of the characters now because they felt genuine and intimate at the time.

this author is clever…

And builds world unimaginable. I wished I could experience something like this, well outer space. Right now in American history, we could do with an alien invasion to save us from ourselves. This part of the story definitely resonates with me.

After reading the first book with Sapphire, Jasmine and then subsequently her mate to be Moirai I was so excited about this story. I wanted to see what would happen once Sapphire was finally in the life with Bronze. And to be honest, I disliked everything about Sapphire. I understood her in the beginning. I understood and was on her side for the longest time. Until sometime when we reached about 1/2-3/4 through the first book. Then she grated on my nerves and her arguments became weaker.

I found her to be a whiny and imperfect human that was selfish and wanted her way only. It was understandable to a point. Right? Then I hated every time she opened her mouth. She was confusing. She played emotional games. She pulled Bronze close and then pushed her away. This went on through the end of the book really. After a while I believed that Bronze made too much of a sacrifice for someone like Sapphire. She came across as moral but she took it to a whole other level. She lied many times herself. and I found her to be mean to a lot of people. I also found her cruel. She would say one thing and then mean or do another.

She wanted Bronze to take ALL responsibility for their relationship because she was lonely and had altered everything about herself for Sapphire. Sapphire played so many games and after a while I felt she was utterly immature. Bronze forgave her 7x7 and then again 7x7. Sapphire held Bronze captive to her flawed whim for affection and emotions that could only be done on her terms and on demand when she snapped her fingers. She was more than a tease and wasn’t as principled as she thought she was. I didn’t like her.

She was dominating, hard to like, but felt she deserved to be treated with kid gloves all the time. This character and these traits can be seen in other characters from this author…Michaela, Sidney, Melissa, Nicole, Moira and Rani. I have a love-hate relationship with these types of characters. They can be endearing. But at the same time they way too unbending and unyielding. I understand showing people how to treat you, but this is too much.

In the end, I didn’t feel the love Sapphire had for Bronze, but I felt it the other way around. Perhaps because the whole two books Sapphire was always threatening to leave Bronze and to get her way. And in the end, the secret Bronze kept from her that was hinted at was stupid. It was insignificant in my eyes and that led to what happened between the two of them going the way it did.

I actually found most of the story boring. I found Sapphire boring even though she held Bronze responsible keeping her entertained. I was ready for it to be over. It was still left on a cliffhanger.

Was this planned? Was it already part of it? Or did this develop on one of the calls mentioned when Bronze called Jasmine? And just what is this “key” and how is it used? What is it for? And now Liz too? I guess we know the “greeting” was a further set up. But do I even care at this point? I just wished they had found a better mate for Bronze. Hell, pick me.

My first instinct is to give this book four stars. Why? Because while it wasn’t anything mind blowing, I enjoyed reading it and didn’t want to put it down. So why the three stars? I recently read the Seer books by Robin Roseau a couple months ago, and it almost feels like I’m reading the same characters with different bodies. The main character is emotionally fickle and obsessed with fairness. The love insterest is dominate and enjoys the chase- literally. There’s a sense of “you want this subconsciously and I know you do even though you’d never admit it” that’s employed through both books. I seriously hate that one. It seems incredibly invasive and makes the MC appear emotionally immature for being unwilling to admit what she desires. The constant whining directly conflicts with the whole “incredibly empathic” thing that’s going on. And since that’s a lot of complaining and I don’t want to look like MC I’m gonna move on to the good.

I found the diverse species thing cool. I would have liked to see more, but I think that’s probably gone into more depth in later books with the new characters. The world building is done very well, even if the MC is blind for half of it. The pacing was nice, nothing felt too fast (which is a serious issue in many lesbian novels) and nothing felt too slow (not as big an issue, but it happens). I felt myself shipping Bronze/Moirai and Sapphire, which is really important considering the author hinted at Sapphire and Jasmine during the first book. The prose is nice, there’s very few grammar/spelling issues, and since this is a kindle unlimited book that’s got a double thumbs up on me. Cheers for being vigilant.

Overall worth the read but be prepared for extreme parallels to her characters from Seer. Perhaps even other books, I haven’t read enough of Roseau to distinguish.

I know there's more to this story when I read that Sapphire's 'the key' to something that Jasmine & Moirai are aware. It made me want to read through the entire 7-book series!
This book was interesting because Miss Roseau took the time to create a whiny, unhinged, Earth female's point of view and allow the reader to feel her vacillating emotions. It was intimate, hilarious, sad, and so much more.
I'm tempted to read the other books in the series but I don't know if I can stay up until 4am each time I pick up a book!

Good story

I have enjoyed this wonderful heartfelt story but you find that not all is what is seen the aliens that took Sapphire use herself to get what they wanted.

Great Story, but...

There has to be another book. Too many unanswered questions:
1. Why is Sapphire terrified of men?
2. What does Jasmine mean by 'she's the key'?
3. How do the Aliens solve their problem of kidnapping their 'mates'?
4. Does Jasmine become a permanent part of the Termierian trio, since that is their 'natural' family unit?
5. What about Liz and Lotus?
6. What about their hybrid cubs?
and many others. Again, not a satisfactory ending.

surprised by the complete thought placed in this actual novel. Glad to finally have a novel where the main character is "the gay aspect" rather then the story. i like it when the story is dominate and the characters are just who happen to be there while the story is happening? this story is dealing with arrival of aliens and the affect on society when it is peacefully done? and secret agendas abound.

Couldn't put it down because I found the continuation of Bronze and Sapphire's relationship interesting. Although I did like Sapphire in the first one, I became plenty frustrated with her in this book. I mean all she did was whine and get upset. Other than that I did enjoy the ending and what we found out.
