E. J. isn't sure if her couch potato hubby's disappearance is some kind of mid-life crisis romp or something far, far worse. Susan Rogers Cooper is an American mystery novelist. A self-proclaimed "half fifth generation Texan; half Yankee", she sets her novels in Texas (the E.J. Pugh and Kimmey Kruse novels) and in Oklahoma (the Sheriff Milt Kovak novels). She is currently living in Central Texas, coming up with fresh new ways to get her characters into trouble.
E.J. Pugh is a romance writer who has been married many years and they have three children (one they adopted after her family was murdered) and a full-and-normal life in Texas. Just a week before his 40th birthday, her husband does not come home from a rock climbing trip. The tension and uncertaintly mount as E.J. tries to keep a normal home front and find her husband.
Then the story shifts to his perspective, and then back again.
This book is hilarious. The absurdity of the situation linked with the realizations of the husband and wife shaken out of their normal routine and (dis)comfort zones make this book a terrific outing. Funny, touching, and just plain crazy. There are lots of stupid people out there doing stupid things and sometimes normal people get caught up in the riptide of idiocy. Great book!
Recently found this gem amongst my fiction and realized I couldn't remember having read it. This was my first foray into the mysteries of E.J. Pugh, and I was completely entertained. The characters were so tangible you could feel them in the room with you. In my mind's eye I was casting them from a combination of experiences, neighbors and even tv shows I remember watching as a kid. One of the most interesting things I found about this story was that it was written from 2 perspectives, male and female (E.J and her husband), and how they seamlessly segue in a way that feels natural. There's no part of the husband's perspective, when taking into account the story is written by a female author, that feels like pretense.
I am currently reading Home Again, Home Again by Susan Rogers Copper.

The husband is missing and E.J.is beside herself. Her husband Willis took a short camping trip with his business partner. His partner has returned but where is he? E.J. pulls out all the stops to find her man at the same time hiding the truth from her children. This one is a roller coaster although there manages to be some comical moments.
