Clay Parker's exit from this world was less than The former cowboy movie star was shot to bits over dessert at a deadly dull charity dinner. His Las Vegas funeral was no more dignified but a whole lot more entertaining, with a two-dozen-showgirl salute and an appearance by Wayne Newton. Parker was the spokesman for an unpopular family-owned land company that's carving chunks out of Wyoming's wide-open spaces. Kellog has a fascination with tony folks (or, judging from her bio, maybe she is one). Anyway, her PI/federal marshal comes from a rich Wyoming family, which shortens her investigations, as she can hie off to Las Vegas at a moment's notice in her private jet. The opening scene involves the theft of her family's private helicopter! The murder victims and the suspects are all pretty unlikable, but the plot has sufficient twists and turns to keep you reading. I could wish for less description of clothes and more character development, but it's appropriate enough for summer reading.(
