Once again Callie is forced to take part in her mom's latest crusade. They head into ranch country to camp―bloodthirsty mosquitoes, stinky outhouses and all―at a protest to save a rural school. Callie's grandmother shows up with her biker buddies and the singing grannies. Callie hates camping and wants nothing to do with the protest. To make matters worse, Callie's only possible ally, her cousin Del, is mad at her. The last time Callie visited, she was thrown from Del's horse, Radish. Callie claimed the horse was vicious and now Del's parents are forcing her to sell Radish. Callie wants to help her cousin, but she's terrified of the horse. Del is just as tenacious as the rest of Callie's family, and Callie is forced to admit that she's not going to be allowed to go home until both the horse and the school are saved.

Horse Power by Ann walsh, published in 2007. It’s a fiction novel and told in first person and is told by the protagonist,Callie who is being forced to go with her mother to protest for a school closing. This all takes place in the country, and Callie doesn’t like the outdoors and doesn’t like anything about it. Callie’s cousin goes to the school that is being threatened to be closed, but Callie wants nothing to do with the protest or her cousin Del. Del is being forced to sell her horse Radish, all because of Callie and what she did. All though Callie denied all signs of being scared of horses and she is always denying what happened with Callie and the horse, but in the end she ends up doing the unexpected and finally confessed and told everyone that Del doesn’t have to sell Radish because what happened wasn’t Radish’s fault. In the end, the school was saved and was part dude ranch and other half the a school.
I think that this book was definitely more of an easy level but it was it was a very good book with many moments where I couldn’t stop reading because it was very easy to get into and not stop. I recommend this to kids that are around fifth to seventh grades because it wasn’t a challenging book, but it was it was good. I also recommend that if any horse lovers read this there is a part where I got mad but that’s because I know how horses are and it made me mad.

This book is a companion to Flower Power. I looked forward to meeting Callie's crazy family again and was not disappointed. A bit predictable, but always engaging.
