Graphic album which assembles 35 new stories from the creators at the bleeding edge of comic art. Scott Morse, Jordan Crane, Jeff Campbell, Marc Bell, Nick Bertozzi, Brian Chippendale, Jesse Reklaw, Jef Czekaj and many more.
Brian Ralph (born 1973) is a U.S. alternative cartoonist. His illustrations have appeared in Wired and the New York Post. His debut graphic novel Cave-In was nominated for three Harvey Awards, one Eisner Award, and listed as one of the Comics Journal's "five best comics of 1999". His second graphic novel Climbing Out was awarded a Xeric Grant in 2001.
The SPX anthology has several very strong contributions (the stand-outs being Scott Morse, as always, and Jesse Reklaw, with a surprisingly touching art spiegelman riff) and lots of mediocre stories, as is the case every year.
But the proceeds benefit the CBLDF, so I buy it every year no matter what. The good comics inside are just a bonus to the cause that I'm supporting.
