When her canine sleuthing partner, Claudius, uncovers the drowned body of Rocky Martinez, a former handyman and thief, in a nearby frozen lake, New England antiques dealer and B&B owner Annie O'Hara joins forces with Claudius and handsome local detective, Cary, to investigate a possible link between his death and that of a popular English teacher. Original.
It's difficult to say I liked this book. I had a lot of things happening in my life so I wasn't reading it the way I usually read books so it seemed to me there would be more and more interesting activities coming. However, as I got to 80% read, I figured that was it.
The author goes into too much detail on the thoughts and feelings of the characters for my liking and the ending is tied up in a very Scooby Doo type manner in the final 10 pages.
Overall, the book was something that wasn't a waste of time however the author could definitely have communicated the story in a far more concise format.
Claudius is a retired police dog. I like the dog better than Annie, his owner. There were a lot of things going on that had nothing to do with the mystery. I don't mind that in a book if those things are interesting, but for the most part they weren't.
I didn't think I'd have a shelf of abandoned books, because I usually manage to finish a book, even if I find it interminably slow. Just couldn't get into this book at all. Didn't like the characters, didn't like the writing, wasn't interested in what happened next. :(
