Georgia by Craig M. Tanner (photography) and Rheta Grimsley Johnson (essay)(Graphic Arts Center Publishing 2000) (975.8) is a beautiful oversized book of photographs taken from across Georgia. Craig M. Tanner's photos are masterful, and Rheta Grimsley Johnson wrote the introductory essay which evinces great love and affection for her home state. Most Southern readers will be familiar with Ms. Grimsley Johnson's writings about various other parts of the South. My favorite quote from Georgia is as follows: "...(A) lot of people have asked me many times how Georgia compares to the rest of the South. In my vagabond life I've lived in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. I lack only Louisiana and the Carolinas to hold a royal Southern Flush." (p. 26) (quoting Rheta Grimsley Johnson). My rating: 6/10, finished 2/18/11.
This is a coffee table keepsake of Georgia, from the turn of the millennium. Photographer Tanner uses color to excellent effect, nicely printed and presented here. Essayist Rheta Grimsley Johnson is good, too. Recommended.
