Great quotes. Some useful reflections about coaching as it relates to wellness. At times a little over the top.

I personally like the idea of wellness coaching. I constantly work with patients in an outpatient setting who are literally killing themselves and who want to do better. Unfortunately, the current structure of healthcare does not have time to address real and meaningful lifestyle change.
That said, though it would be a large upfront investment, the pay off would be huge in the long-term and well worth it for individuals and society. Health care costs were over 3 trillion last year (about 1/5 of the GDP). We are paying out the nose now yet the structure in place is ineffective as preventable diseases continue to skyrocket.

One of the things I see is that even when people lose the weight, they almost always gain it back. I think the problem is that the strategies people to use for weight loss are unsustainable or unrealistic in the long term. There is also so much misinformation/quick fixes being promoted that may work initially, but that fail ultimately. I can think of dozens of patients I know who would benefit from coaching.

Excellent recap of the various elements that go into wellness coaching. As a project manager, I'm interested in learning new skills to use with team members in the workplace to make a place we spend so much of our lives a healthier and more welcoming place. Learning skills about coaching of all kinds (health, wellness, life, business, etc.) seems like a good place to start!

Poorly written and poorly formatted. The author needs to get the kids or grandkids to format his book. I’m studying for my graduate degree in nutrition, this waste of a book was a requirement. If this book is meant to do anything it’s meant to say: You there, you can write a book. Anyone can publish anything.

The book could have been a YouTube video. Not sure who the publisher was, but the last pages were spaces for journal entries. The author could have easily linked the pages rather than waste MBs on my kindle.

It’s very basic wellness coaching. I mean day one of week one. Save your cash. I had to get this for school and it was a wasted 40 bucks.

It’s a good look into what coaching is about and has some helpful information in it. I had to read it for my FMCA coaching class.

Wellness coaching is helping people to improve their lifestyle behavior. It applies the principles of life coaching towards the goal of lifestyle improvement to higher levels of wellness. The clinical goal is to increase patient compliance and preventative health. A distinction is made between life coaching that focuses on health and wellness and wellness coaching. The later includes a more clinical approach trying to target specific health concerns. Many healthcare professionals merely pass along information where a coach helps the client affect the changes required to improve their health. Wellness coaches are either traditional coaches interested in wellness or wellness professionals interested in using coaching techniques to bring about lasting change. This book presents solid information about coaching foundations that meet the model recommended by ICF. It also places a heavy emphasis on Maslow psychology.

The book offers an overview of a number of wellness models. It gives just enough information to the reader to lead them on their own research project and provides a hefty reference section to help in that regard. Most in line with my own practice is Ardell's model that states every individual is responsible for their own health choices. A person can't move forward to positive change until they recognize and accept that responsibility. Ultimately, it's all about choices. You need to be aware of the choices you're making and decide whether they help or hinder your well being.

The number one threat to company profitability is healthcare costs. Over half of what determines our health comes from our lifestyle choices. Investing in wellness programs that include coaching can greatly decrease healthcare costs and improve quality of life.

At times it seems a bit over the top and hokie, but in general I learned a few things and am excited to pursue a career in the this field.

I guess to me, he just seemed a bit to preachy. While I personally have many goals in common with Arloski, I think he's a bit presumptious at times about what the goals of clients ought to be and what a person needs to be. I prefer a more open-ended outlook.

The writing style was dull and uninteresting. The intro and conclusion were the pieces that engaged me. A verified call to arms about the evident health behavior crisis and the demand for solutions that work to mitigate disease-risk and increase general well-being.
