Grouse Feathers

Rate this book
This is the classic grouse hunting book, "Grouse Feathers". Responsible for creating more interest in the sport than all other grouse-related works put together, this book offers the reader practical, hands-on advice on hunting these birds, the choice of bird dogs, decent hunting spots throughout the New England states, and much more. This book is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the sport, and it would make for a great addition to collections of allied literature. This antiquarian book is being republished now in an affordable, modern edition - complete with a specially commissioned new introduction on aviculture.

If you enjoy the stories of aged men recounting a lifetime spent in the woods then Grouse Feathers is for you. Burton Spiller’s tales are engaging and pleasantly reminiscent of an era of hunting and dog work that I will never know.

a nice reflective account of grouse and upland hunting , like talking with an old friend or Grandfather, lots of wisdom and good stories.

There is a reason this book is considered a classic. This was my third reading and I have enjoyed it more each time. Spiller's ability to write about his outdoor adventures is like sitting next to a fireplace in a north woods cabin listening to your grandfather tell stories about his dogs and days in the field long before you were born. Wonderful!
