“The characters are the Key"

Somehow I've missed this series. Evidently I joined in the fun at book eight. All the components are there for a great series. Mick Murphy is a larger than life character, with a lot of friends who enjoy mixing it with the bad guys. I imagine that if I went back to the beginning I would be treated to more of the same; a strong story line, good characterisation and well written descriptive passages that set the time and the place.
In this story we read of corruption in high places, greed and the unending fight against drugs. At times the action fizzes along and the pages are turning faster than a Catherine Wheel on Bonfire Night. Just now and then there was a little too much information on which brand of beer the guys were having, who was going for the takeout and other random ramblings. Perhaps the author thought we needed to take a breather? Personally, I would have liked to keep fizzing along, hanging on for dear life - but we're all different. Despite that minor 'niggle' it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read. (Only seven to catch up on!)

A very good read.

Michael Haskins has delivered a tale that made even the dreadful greyhound round trip from Key West to Miami almost a pleasure. Mick Murphy and his cohorts had me locked in from the very start. Enough twists to keep the pace and my interest.
