I'm a beginner at drawing and recently started drawing classes. However, my instructor assumes we already know the equipment and some basic things like how to shade and so on. I got this book out of my local library because it covered shading, but I read the whole book. It was useful at explaining some of the things my art teacher has skipped over and quite likely will teach a beginner to making drawings like you see on the front cover. However, if you look at that drawing, it's not very detailed and it's somewhat simplistic. My art teacher had me drawing realistic, detailed pictures (which is my intent) after 5 hours of classes and doing surprisingly well at it. If I'd only followed this book, I never would have attempted anything more detailed and probably gotten discouraged by the "sketchy" look taught by this book. So it's a good book but don't stop here unless that's the look you want in your drawings.
