When you think about it, Delmer Holden spent his entire life in this valley. It was only fitting that he died here.
"Sixty-eight years of joy and pain. Hopes that turned into regret ... happy memories slowly fading." He looked morosely around the coffee shop. "Not much ... ashes to ashes ... dust to dust, as they say."
"Hmm?" Alvis was focused on the behind of that cute young waitress that started. Didn't matter that he was widowed and old enough to be her grandfather. A man can still have feelings.
"What else is there, except to go out with a bang?" Delmer continued.
Nice short story that touches a nerve if you work in blue collar. Simple story with salt of the Earth type of characters. I enjoyed the story and look forward to more of his stories.
