This is the final book in Steve Genis"s Obsession Series, and it is by far the best.
BUT PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: YOU MUST READ 'TEMPTATION' AND 'OBSESSION' PRIOR TO READING 'RESIGNATION' - IT IS NOT A STANDALONE!!!!!
This book covers roughly twenty one years of Rick's life.
Resignation is the continuing story of Rick and how he copes with the death of a close friend and how it affects his life. It is touching emotionally, I cried laughed and screamed whilst I read this story. I grew frustrated with Rick and his attitude to himself and those around him. So many times I just wanted to throw my Kindle at the floor and yell at him, "Grow up - get on with your life!!!" That is how mush this book affected me.
Steve has done an exceptional job in writing the finish of this trilogy. He has brought back all the characters from his previous books, yes that's right, all of them - even those who are no longer with us. But the way in which he has done this is brilliant - it does not detract from the story at all. In fact it actually adds to the story - it makes you wonder is Rick going insane!
We watch as Rick loses control of his life and we all hope that he begins to realise just what he is doing to himself and to the friends and family who love him dearly. There are many lows in this story but there are also highs that make the reader feel that maybe, just maybe, Rick is going to turn over a new leaf and pick himself up.
I actually couldn't get enough of this entire trilogy. Resignation totally drew me in and had me turning the pages faster than what I actually wanted to. I literally didn't want the book to finish. It was just that good!!! I was glued from the very first word to the final one - and that takes a lot for me to do!!
The ending was phenomenal - it was so unexpected that I had to go back and read it twice!!! Absolutely spine chilling is how I would explain it!!! An ending to top all endings!!!
To quote a friend "holy sh*t, what the f**k have I just read!!!!"
Congrats Steve you well and truly deserve for this to be a best seller!!!
I had the honor of receiving this book as an ARC. This book was bittersweet for me. On one hand I couldn't wait to read it because of how much I love these characters. On the other hand, it's the last book in the trilogy and I just didn't want it to end.
Now with that being said, I will say as sad as I am this book is over, it was absolutely a wonderful read. I didn't have a dry eye the entire time I read the book.
The main character, Rick is very dear to me. The book starts off with Rick dealing with the loss of his love. He tries to find a way just to get through it all. He finds the only way he can deal with his still raw emotions is by drinking and smoking in excess. His family and friends try to help him get out from under the dark cloud of Rick losing his love but he fights them every step of the way.
The book leads you on Rick's destructive journey and you can't help but feel what he feels. Reading about his heart ache just broke my heart. Not many get to find the kind of love he had and I can never imagine ever suffering that kind of loss.
I don't want to give too much of the book away but I will say this book, and the entire trilogy for that matter is a must read. I am a huge fan of the m/m genre and have read my fair share, and I will say this trilogy is one of my favorites. Steve Genis did a fantastic job of bringing Rick and is heart ache to life. I felt everything in this book and loved every minute of it. Steve did this trilogy justice and I'm a fan for life.
Well done Steve Genis. You knocked this one out of the park.

Congrats Steve you well and truly deserve for this to be a best seller!!!
It started with Temptation and Obsession. Following Rick's journey through the beginning of his young adult life, His secrets, his turmoils dealing with and experiencing life.
Resignation took the series to whole new level, that is very difficult to put into words. Rick's journey continues through heartbreak, sorrow, loneliness and total devastation. Life has ended as far as Rick's concerned he goes through the motions not realising what he's doing to himself or those around him. The emotions are powerful and very very real. Steve Genis has written a finale that will knock you off your feet and then kick you while your down there. Its compulsive reading that broke my heart but then gave me hope. The twist if you can call it that is massive!! That will take you from "Oh here we go" to tears and smiles. It made be look around and see what I've actually for, not what i think i have. He made the unbelievable, believable.
Resignation will stay with me for a long time for my own personal reasons. Its a book that should be read by all.
Alcohol. tissues, lots and lots of tissues oh and cake would be highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Rick is spiralling into depression. In his saddened state he turns to cigarettes and alcohol to dull his pain and his fear. But they are just a crutch and things always have a way of making themselves known.
What can I say about this book? It was on a whole other level. The twists and turns in this poor guys life are devastating. How much bad luck can one person live through. In saying that I could not stop reading this book. It drew me in and kept me there oblivious to my surroundings. I did cry a lot but it's so worth it. The author leads you on an amazing journey from low point to low point only to shock you and leave you gasping with the ending. A definite must read.
A late comer to this series I read it in its recommended order and I must insist if your starting or with this series that you also read it in that order so that you can gain the full experience from start to finish: - Temptation - Obsession - Resignation
Well what can I say....WTF Steve you totally out did yourself with this book.
There was so much going on and what a total mind F$ck. It was fantastic. I have to say out of all three this was my favorite. I can tell you went out of comfort zone and really and truly put your heart and soul into this book.
I can’t really give too much information about the book because I don’t want to ruin it for you...Just trust me. Rick goes through so much in this book. There were so many emotions that this book gave me. I felt bad and sad for Rick but his petty party drove me nuts.
You get to meet some old favorites...like Josh, Kyle, Evie, Amanda, Jared and my favorite Nate. If you haven’t read the book now is the time. It was fantastic. I couldn’t put it down. It takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and so much more.
Steve I must say you truly out did yourself on this one. You gave us your heart and soul and now I know why it took so long for this one to come out.
***PLEASE NOTE: This is book 3 in the Obsession series and CANNOT be read as a standalone. To avoid spoilers, this series MUST be read in the following order: Temptation > Obsession > Resignation***
** Beta copy provided in exchange for an honest review**
This book was fan-flipping-tastic! This book covers Rick's life over 21 years after Obsession's ending. We see Rick spiral out of control as life throws hurdle after hurdle at him. Steve brings back old characters resulting in new and surprising situations. My heart was broken and a lot of tears were shed as I read this. Being able to relate to some things in this book made reading harder at some points but I was ultimately completely sucked in and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Explosive doesn't cover what I think of this finale. A truly remarkable end to this trilogy that will leave you shouting 'holy sh*t, what the f*ck have I just read?!' by the last page. You smashed it out of the ball park with this book, Steve.
So i was lucky enough to have an ARC of this, i'll be honest i was a little hesitant, i knew my heart was going to break but i wasn't sure but how much.
I love how he portrays Ricks loss, its real, its confusing to him and it shows loss extremely well.
For such a book that spans the timeline it does, you don't loose interest and if you're a softy like me, will probably need a tissue refill. I did get to the point of being how much does he have to go through for it to be enough, as i said i knew with the ending of Book 2 that i was in for heartbreak, but my heart actually shattered throughout this book. Shattered to a way you don't think it will go back together. This is my far my most emotional read of the 2015!
WOWZERS !!!!!!!! How to do a review for this....... So we know what happened at the end of book 2 and could see that something wasn't right with Rick, well this takes us through what happened up to that point of the book, explaining a lot of things to that point, old faces keep re-appearing, some are welcome, so not so much so. The things that happen in this book made me hate Rick all over again and then when something critical happens i wanted to hug him. But he has to go and spoilt it by messing things up AGAIN !!! Gah he's such a frustrating character as 1 minute you'll loathe him then you'll love him then you're back to loathing him !! But is everything as it seems ?? Such a brilliantly written book and the ending really was a "twisted, mindf*@k" !!! Total brilliance !!! Loved it !!!
Read this Arc and here is my honest review. I'm rating it 4.5 4 at first because I wanted to strangle Rick for being so pig headed. 5 at the end because Steve Genis pulled my heart strings.
This book is the final part of Rick Santini's story. His life has been complicated since he was a young man. Everything that has happened to Rick has made him jaded. He is a very stubborn individual. Even through the toughest time of his life he refused help from his family and friends. This book is angsty. Its heartbreakingly sad. But the ending.......made my heart melt. The need for unconditional love and support from family and friends is most important in life. That is what I felt in the end. Great ending to this series. Thanks for sharing it with us Steve Genis.
omg just when you think you know whats going on in this book the ending comes and your blown away all over again. rick has definitely been through the mill in this series but this book bring an end to all of that. ive followed this story gripping the edge of my seat guessing and hatching what could happen next never in a million years did i expect this just wow
wow what an ending to an amazing series. This time Steve Genis blew it out the park with the concluding part of Ricks story. Emotional and at times a little overwhelming in all the best ways. The storylines are amazing and keep you gripping the seat until the very last page.
