Private Investigator Dani Ripper works her way through a bevy of nuthouse clients while trying to maintain her delicate personal relationship with Sophie Alexander. Dani desperately wants a life-changing case. But what she gets is a killer case.
Abbey Rayne is a hilarious novel with an edgy, dark side that will piss you off even as you’re laughing.
PRELIMINARY COMMENTS FOR ABBEY RAYNE:
“I defy anyone to read this book and think it was written by a man.”
“With the possible exception of Emmett Love, Dani Ripper is Locke’s most complete character. I know her and love her and will undoubtedly catch myself searching the crowds for her next time I’m in Nashville.”
“Abbey Rayne is a crazy, silly, funny, delightful romp! I laughed out loud many times—even though the subject matter is serious.”
“With Abbey Rayne, Locke has fired a warning shot at colleges, fraternities and The System. Despite the almost nonstop humor, this novel offers a powerful message.”
“Dani cracks me up! Her relationships with Sophie and Dillon are spot-on and hilarious. While the entire novel is great, Dani’s new game, Countdown, is worth the price of the book all by itself. I guarantee people will be playing it in restaurants all across the country!”

John Locke never disappoints. I couldn't put it down, and can't wait to see what comes next for Dani. Very happy with the way this twisted mess ended! Thank you again for your twisted mind, John Locke!
I loved the other 4 books in the series, but this one just didn't match the balance of serious subject matter and comedy. I especially didn't like that Dani disappeared for at least a third of the book. I understand that campus rape is an issue, but the book felt more like a thesis than a Dani Ripper novel. Hope the next one is better!
John Locke Dani Ripper novels are definitely not great literature. They are easy to read, funny, and non-stressful. The plots have a lot of complexity, sort of a mystery genre, but it is more of something to be interested in rather than to try to figure out and guess the answer. I know that I won't be able to guess the answer, so I just let him lay out the story and amuse me. Abbey Rayne is another fun book. It may seem strange to give 5 stars to something that is definitely not a great work of art, but sometimes all I want is some light entertainment while I sit on an airplane. I really enjoyed this one.
I remember from my misspent youth in central Ohio (Go Bucks!) a shoe commercial that went something like "Half the fun of having feet is Red Goose Shoes." To me the fun of your books is the clever turn of phrases throughout. I usually smile a lot as I read and some times actually laugh out loud. (You can always tell a person of substantial intelligence and sophistication. His opinions will be substantially the same as your own.) At the same time (for me) the endings tend to be a little thin. I've read nearly all of Locke's stuff, except the Emmett Gantry series which just doesn't interest me, so this should qualify as an informed opinion. While most of his books are crap-tastic (which is a good thing), this one is just simply crap. At least 40% of the book had nothing to do with the main story. Instead, it was just uninteresting gibberish that totally lacked wit or entertainment value. Is his run coming to an end? I hope not, but fear so.
Abbey Rayne is excellently written, serious and funny at the same time about a serious and important topic. The story features two important John Locke characters: Abbey Rayne and Dani Ripper - both are needed to tell this story. I had to remind myself, several times, that this book about women was written by a man - - The story is about a murder - brutal, yes, but you'll find yourself rooting for the killer - - - Every page is important to the story or to the characters - you'll love the characters and you'll have learned something from the story - its important.
I have read all of John Locke's books (the fiction writer, not the one from history).
I have always thought his books rated five stars. However this one didn't do it for me.
The premise in the sub plot was right on and deserves to be written in loud words. But it didn't fit. Dani is a case and has always been fun to read, up until now.
Sorry, but that is my take on this book. I will look forward to more from this author.
Well I just finished book one of 2016 and enjoyed it a good deal.
This was one of John Locke's Dani Ripper novels. Dani is a novel detective and that is what makes these books a great read. The holidays were different from past years so I wanted to read something that contained mystery and humor and this book served the purpose well. I have read all of the Dani Ripper books and highly recommend them when you want this kind of read.
The first emotion I have felt after finishing and, actually, during reading this book of Dani’s series was disappointment. I huge one, may I add. And I hope, she will do something about it before screwing up with Sophie as the only one person in her life, who was so eager to help her with Ben and other stuff coming into her life later. But over all, I liked it and I need to know, if Abbey has been caught or not! And if Sophie kicked Dani’s ass, too!
I adore everything about Mr. Locke ( well except for two books) so I had to give him yet another 5. Honestly for anyone who hasn't read his books yet , and I mean anyone , no matter what your preference give him a try . His writing is so entertaining and you can't beat the prices . I've never loved an author more and I read a lot!
Another wonderful John Locke book, his typical--fast paced, tons of twists and turns, some naughty bits, some crazy people, some weird stuff and some really kick butt stuff too. What more could you want from a great mystery/thriller? And you know Dani's going to give the bad guy what he deserves in the end. If you like the other Dani Ripper books, you'll love this one too. Great stuff!
I like all John Locke books! This was a great addition to the Dani Ripper catalogue. The stories are so easy to read and cleverly written sense of humor, action, and sex appeal.
The first quarter of the book was like a stand-up comic telling a series of jokes. They seemed to be fillrr thst had little to do with whet ended up being the plot. That said, the book was entertaining, albeit at times ridiculous.
i love John Locke books. this one is another great one, a section of it is narrated by the Abbey Rayne of the title, but i enjoyed this too. Locke isn't great literature and the characters are not realistic but they are fantastic, fun, laugh- out- loud reads
I really like Locke's books even though the backstory on Dani Ripper does come across as borderline juvenile in tone at times. The meat of this story is pretty compelling, though.
