If He Really Loved Me...

Rate this book
An enthralling story of love and romance, heartache and betrayal, set against the exotic backdrop of Barbados and the stunning Gower peninsula. If Holly can’t trust her own son, who can she trust? Single mum, Holly Wilson, and her twenty-year-old son Harry have an enviably close relationship but when Harry finds out that she is pregnant and, for reasons unknown to all but herself, intends to raise the baby alone again, he begins to question her decision not to tell him about his own father, who abandoned them before his birth. Upon discovering his father’s name, Harry secretly embarks on his search for the truth, a search which takes him to Los Angeles where he uncovers a tragic story. Still reeling from what he has learned, an extraordinary twist of fate brings Harry and Philippe, the father of Holly’s unborn child, face to face. Should Harry tell him about the baby and risk damaging his relationship with his mum forever? If he does, will Philippe want to be a husband and father? And will Holly be prepared to give Philippe a second chance?

Author Julia Roberts, best known as a QVC UK presenter, brings us the second book in her Liberty Sands Trilogy. Another enjoyable read that sees Holly back and continuing her secret missions to exotic holiday resorts around the world. Following on from the first book Life’s A Beach And Then, which follows Holly’s passionate island romance with Philippe in Mauritius, she has some real-world family issues to confront. Plenty of relationship surprises for Holly, her son Harry and their friends new and old to sort out for the reader’s entertainment.

Holly’s close relationship with her son is threatened when he begins to start to ask difficult questions about his father. Holly a single mother has avoided the subject all of Harry’s life but a turn of events makes him press for answers. How much should she tell him and where will it lead and what might the past stir up? Philippe’s growing success as an author is making him richer but not happier without Holly. Why won’t she see him and what did he do to make her cut him off and refuse to be found?

Julia Roberts writes believable story-lines for characters that come across as real and imperfect. Love, rejection, heartbreak and betrayal befall us all and Holly certainly gets her fair share as she struggles to balance her emotions as the men in her life pull on her heartstrings. Holly’s story is captivating and emotional and leaves me looking forward to reading the third and final book of the series.
