This is the sequel to EMP 1500 Miles From Home. Wayne forms a trading caravan to travel east from New Mexico to Indiana and try to get home to his family who he has had no word from since the EMP. If he fails, the entire caravan, and his family, will die. Complicating matters, Wayne must choose between love and duty. Wayne’s major ally is Yeti, a fifteen-year-old boy he adopted right after the EMP. Yeti, an orphan, wants to keep the family he has found and win the heart of a special girl. This is a full-length novel of 94,000 words.
I'm not sure if I feel this book was rushed a bit in places, if I wanted more detail or if I just didn't want the story to end. As the story continues, I was fully engrossed in the characters, the story line, and wondering how I would be reacting to the events.
I certainly am looking forward for another EMP story from Mr. Whitworth. If you enjoy this genre, you will enjoy this story.
The struggle to get home continues, and we find that Wayne’s makeshift family has him torn. Remain faithful to his wife, or give in to his overwhelming attraction to his travel partner. He has adopted Yeti, the young man he grows to love as much as his son. Struggles abound, and there is a constant fight for the caravan to get home. A good read - full of adventure and human struggles.
I generally liked this book. There were parts when the narrative changed characters that the plot seemed to skip in an uneven fashion. Seems to set up well for another book.
