Kastennroc est une forteresse légendaire et imprenable. Essentially an over the top Warcraft meets Lord of the Rings (with pinches of Night of the Living Dead and many other easter-eggs too...) retelling of the Battle of Helm's Deep and probably I should have read Redwin of the Forge before this one to fully appreciate the Dwarven hero's backstory, but I just loved every part of it.
And that grim ending, with more than one of the beloved characters taking this ride since volume 1 leaving the stage at last, was a perfect one in my opinion.
If you are into comic books and fantasy, do yourself a vavor and take a look to these series.
It's a masterpiece.

Lah'Saa the Dark Elf Necromancer has brought her undead army to Castennroc, the impregnible fortress. She is opposed by Lanwyn and even Redwin makes an appearance. The fight was a savage one and the end of the story is shocking in that some major characters are killed off.
Not much more I can say, without spoiling this tale, but I shall state this entire serieshas been top notch so far. Even the "average" volumes are four star material. A combination of good art, great story and interesting worldbuilding make this a fantasy tale to rank up there with the best fantasy novels around. This French comic series should be a hit, but I think many people are still unaware of it. That is a shame and I, for one, am glad that I've been able to find these superb stories for my own collection.

Take a Battle of Helm's Deep from The Lord of the Rings, add parts of battle from Legend and sprinkle with World of Warcraft and the army of undead from far North of A Game of Thrones and you'll get an idea what is waiting for you in this volume of great French fantasy series, Elves.
The ghoul army of Elven Necromancer Lah'saa is coming, growing ever stronger, and Blue Elves with their Human allies are making a stand at the impenetrable fortress of Castennroc. Lanawyn and Turin are there. but there is also an old acquaintance from another series, Dwarves. The one and only, Redwin, who we've first met in Redwin of the Forge.
It's a fast-paced story with great art and amazing panels, especially wide ones, with several plot twits and a bitter end and a promising cliffhanger.
This series deserves more recognition.

Brilliant and fast paced, full of three-dimensional characters, plots twists, great art which ties in perfectly with the script, full of adventure and action! Brilliant and recommended! Crisp high five! Get it when you can!

Still going strong, this arc. The whole battle at Kastennroc between the Man-Elf-Dwarf triple alliance and the forces of Lah’saa was so intense, and so tragic in the end, with a twist I'd not expected and that packed quite the punch.

This one reminded me (in a good way) of a big battle in the Lord of the Ring movies.

On peut dire que ce tome, au vu des goules présentes dans cette histoire, ne manque pas de ... mordant ! Blague facile j'avoue. Onzième tome de la saga Elfes, ce tome se lit après le tome 1 de la saga Nains, qui lui-même succède aux dix premiers tomes de la saga Elfes, pour suivre l'ordre des histoires.
On se retrouve donc ici avec l'armée de goule que l'on avait croisé dans le tome 9 de la saga Elfes, où elle avait décimée les remparts de Cadanla. En tous les cas, cette armée de goule avait à sa tête un elfe noir, lui-même possédé par une entité elfique, Lah'saa, qui veut régner comme un tyran sur tous les continents. Les Elfes savent qu'il faut arrêter la progression de l'armée et contacte la cité de Kastennroc. Malheureusement, les hommes sont assez cupides, surtout le roi de la cité. Bref, parmi les personnages, on retrouve Redwinn de la Forge. D'ailleurs, le premier tome de la saga Nains lui est consacré.
Dans l'ensemble, l'histoire est assez bien montée, écrite, j'ai bien aimé revoir Laewyn et Lanawyn, les deux elfes bleues ; pareil pour Redwin, qui jouit d'une énorme reconnaissance, autant parmi les siens que parmi les humains. On peut voir qu'il ne faut pas l'énerver, ce nain car lorsque l'armée goule arrive, on peut voir ses talents à l'oeuvre. J'ai tout autant apprécié la vue de l'armée ennemie, et je sais que je me répète mais si cette saga est un jour adaptée (bien adaptée), ça serait vraiment super de voir cela. La vue de l'armée ennemie fait un peu pensé au second film du Seigneur des Anneaux, lorsque l'armée de Saruman arrive devant le Gouffre de Helm, sauf qu'ici, nous avons des engins de sièges montés sur des bêtes et qu'il y a des mercenaires gobelins.
Enfin bref, en conclusion, un excellent tome, des traits de dessins toujours aussi superbes, rien à redire de ce côté là, une bataille un peu courte à mon goût (j'en demande souvent plus, plus d'actions) même si très intense et une fin ... On croise un personnage qui semblait avoir disparu depuis bien longtemps, recouvert dans la neige. J'ai hâte de voir la suite comment cela va se dérouler.

POPKULTUROWY KOCIOŁEK: Jedenasta odsłona serii skupia się na konfrontacji Niebieskich Elfów z nekromantką Lah’są. Jej horda ghuli sieje spustoszenie, zagrażając nie tylko Nodrenn, ale i całym południowym królestwom. Elfy, zdając sobie sprawę z powagi sytuacji, podejmują trudną decyzję o konieczności nawiązania współpracy z ludźmi. Nie wiadomo jednak czy taka współpraca będzie w ogóle miała szansę zaistnieć i czy to wystarczy, aby pokonać potężnego przeciwnika.
Kolejna część Świata Akwilonu (jak wszystkie wydane do tej pory albumy) to dzieło, które można czytać bez znajomości innych komiksów cyklu. Zaprezentowana tu fabuła stanowi jednocześnie dopełnienie wojennych przygód opisanych w tomach 6 i 9, co na pewno będzie dostrzeżone i docenione przez fanów serii.
Jean-Luc Istin od samego początku oferuje tu czytelnikowi intensywną, bezlitosną wojenną opowieść, która poświęca jednak odpowiednio dużo miejsca do bardziej intymnego zaprezentowania niektórych bohaterów. Autor z każdą kolejną stroną zwiększa ponadto napięcie, które mocno angażuje odbiorcę i nie pozwala mu się oderwać od lektury, zanim nie zobaczy on ostatniej planszy.
Scenariusz jedenastej odsłony to także misternie tkany labirynt tajemnic i różnorakich emocji. Twórca z niezwykłą dbałością o szczegóły buduje ten magiczny świat, w którym mrok i dramatyzm wysuwają się na pierwszy plan. This one reminded me of Lord of the rings and battle of Gondor, a castle siege, an alliance between man, elves, and a single dwarf, it had some great moments. This is the first book in the series which can’t be read without reading the previous books. It also ties up with the Dwarf series based in the same world, introduces my favorite character. I loved the whole epic battle sequence but not much was provided on the story front, or character development, this was all about action and some great artwork.

A big fortress, a big army it sounded like the battle of Helmsdeep all over again. it certainly looked like it and then the enemy wasn't dumb enough...
The humans were though... it is sad you think you are safe because of race, because of a deal... Idiots, treators, gamblers are everywhere...
It looked some much like the second movie of the Lord of the rings except a different order it hurts...
Still I can totally tell it isn't going to get better... I'm suspecting way worse...

This series keep getting better and I like how they're all connected even to the Dwarves series. There was one little detail at the end but I'm willing to overlook. By the way these are better read in order along with Dwarves and Orcs and Goblins series. Check their official site for the release order.

The seasonal zombie feel to this volume was definitely not my favorite. The story is still epic and strong. The plot twist was a bit weak in this one but the drama was right on the spot and I loved it!

A bit too close to The Lord of the Rings that it makes you lose focus on the story but very cool as well. I was very intrigued by the end...

Le tome 11, Kastennroc, poursuit l’histoire du tome 6 et est dans la continuité du tome 9. Une histoire épique et tragique, avec une belle bataille digne des romans de fantasy !
