The Alastair Affair #2

The Alastair Affair 2: Sylvain

Rate this book

Sylvain Alastair.

A man of darkness, power, and great wealth.

A man of secrets.

Showing Dani only small glimpses of his true self, he nonetheless snared her in his web.

But what makes a man seek the dark and embrace it like a long lost lover? What makes him wrap it around himself and revel in its existence?

What happened in his past that gave birth to his depraved desires?

Seven years ago Sylvain emerged from prison ready to take his rightful place in the world. Instead the Alastair family estate called to him. He could not resist its pull. There, he found his sister broken by his father's hand. Bound to her by the promise he'd made long ago, Sylvain was thrust into the world he'd tried to leave behind.

But betrayal lies close at hand. A new, unexpected love affair catapults him into a twisted game of passion and intrigue that pits him against his father... and brings him face-to-face with the true Alastair family legacy, which corrupts all men and leaves no one untouched.

--

The Alastair Affair 2: Sylvain  is told from Sylvain's perspective. The story begins with his release from prison seven years ago.

Future books will alternate perspectives between Dani (in the present) and Sylvain (in the past). The timelines will converge for the climax and ultimate conclusion of the series.

The Plot Thickens

In this second serial in the series, Sylvain's past is explored. From his young adulthood, to his rise to success, to his downfall and subsequent incarceration, this serial offers a glimpse at some of the pivotal life events that shaped Sylvain Alastair.

Yet, despite all of these revelations, the core of this man remains shrouded in mystery. Is the same man that strived to rescue and protect his mentally ill sister now the tormentor of someone else? What exactly is this family's history of mental illness and abuse? Does the family's castle have anything to do with this? So many questions remain unanswered.

The story of Sylvain Alastair continues to be a captivating read. However, I missed Dani in this serial. I'm sure that Sylvain's history will prove to be an integral piece of this story, but I couldn't help but feel like it was just that. I felt like this serial was a big lead-in for whatever will happen in the next serial episode. It lacked any big, climactic event, but was filled with details that will, no doubt, prove to be important in the future of this series.

All in all, I liked it. It was a quick read and held my attention. Some new characters were introduced to the story and a softer side of Sylvain is revealed. It wasn't as intense as the first serial, and Dani was noticeably absent from this installment, which was disappointing. I will continue the series, but am hoping that the intensity of the first serial, and Dani's character, will be predominant once again.

I have no idea where this is going

I'm a fan of the first series but this one seems to be out of order. We get it, family is messed up. Abuse is a horrible thing and this guy is bad. Now what's the point. You know I'm really tired of these ninety nine cent serials that don't really say anything. Put out the whole book and enough already. And no I didn't know this thing was a serial.

Sad

I love this author. Whenever I become tired of reading lighthearted romance, I turn to Scarlett Edwards.
So far this series is very very sad. I'm sure the darkness is coming.
I wonder how far Scarlett will take me into her dark world.
Dani seems so fragile already
It's a bit frightening that it will only get worse.
Sylvain is a tortured sole.
This will be a hard read, but sometimes, especially when written by Scarlett, it's so
Worth it.

I'm still confused. Though I'm appreciative of the fact that this installment is told from Alastair's pov, it doesn't really clear up anything. It gives a bit of background to add substance to his character, but I'm still left floundering trying to figure out who he really is. A boy genius. An embezzler. A hacker. A victim of his father's violence. A protector for his sister. A lover of an older woman named Alicia. But I still feel no connection to him. I couldn't even understand his love of Alicia. I saw no evidence of why he would love her. All I got was lust. Actually, there was no love to be found in this book in my opinion except for the love he has for his sister Bianca.

I see that the next book is once again from Dani's pov. Though I cannot stand to read her voice, I'm still going to give it a chance because maybe it will provide some enlightenment.

Love the second part this this book I like the fact that it's gone to the mans point of view on what he's been doing . I also like the fact that they explained his back history.

Dark

A little piece of the dark journey this series takes you on. Just wish the installments were a little more revealing but then again, that's what makes it fun.

I really liked that Ms Edwards decided to dedicate a novella singular to the male Dominat. It gave great perspective and back drop.

The Alastair Affair

I wish to finish my first review before my submit button got in the way of completion. The Alastair character that Scarlett I agree is very sinister and doesn't offer aftercare for his submissive or at this point a show of protective behavior towards Dani. Alastair is a dark character with deep seed behavioral tendencies brought on by his father cruel up bring of Sylvain. Who references to himself as Alastair when committing the violent acts toward Dan I in the first novel. Now for the second gives insight to Alastair which was great but I felt it was cut short. The readers need more rather than a few ending sentence of what happened to the characters that Scarlett introduce in the second novel. I felt I was on my to understanding Alastair and was cut short.

Scarlett is actually Edward Airiants, this author is a boy. Not a young woman. He writes as a women to sell his crappy stories as being a females perspective. FRAUD... BEWARE.
