******Spoilers*******

Let me start by saying that I had a really hard time rating this book, and I find myself having a equally hard time writing this review. I am conflicted on my feeling of this book. I tried two times in December to read this book but couldn't really get into it. I gave up and tried to come back at a later date. This time I made myself sit down and finish it. So now I sit trying to piece together my thoughts. I didn't like this book but I didn't hate it either. Truly I never connected to the book or the main couple.

 photo wzOJM_zpsrdkyhlhw.gif

One of the problems I had was there was way too much going on in this book. It would bounce from one point of view(pov) to another, to another, to another, to another and not just the main couple but like 6 or more different people's povs. It was so busy it made it hard to get invested.

 photo 3759e4ea2298fd5922285e9c3df19684378bc4f165e63e55ec29a8cff252e55d_1_zps5sin42ms.gif

Another thing that bothered me was there was some dark stuff in here. Now I read dark romances and I love them but 1. I like to know when something is going to be dark so I am in the right frame of mind for dark. And 2. I don't like dark when it is young children. I have a harder time reading about rape, abuse, and torture of children. In this book we had an 11 or 12 year old girl name Kelly. And we readers have to read about how her mom is this evil man's sex slave and the girl lives listening to this man beat and rape and chain her mom. Then in the story the man beats the mom to death and decides to take Kelly and make her his slave. So I had to read about him hanging Kelly, a child from chains, naked, and beat her repeatedly and talk about raping her. He never does rape her because she escapes but it was really hard for me to read. I cringed many times.

 photo raw_zpsiih2dmpm.gif

And the other reason I feel I didn't really connect with this book is I felt there wasn't much meat to it. I felt that Dominic, Adele, their relationship, and the plot were all pretty much one dimensional. There wasn't any depth because there was just too much going on for anything to dig deep. It just jumped from Dominic, to his brother , to his father, to evil rapist, to Kelly, to Adele, to Cop etc.. leaving me feeling like I only scratched the surface. So while this book wasn't for me I didn't hate it.

Summary

Snow Leopard shifter Dominic feels the pain and grief coming from his mate. But he has no idea who she is or where she is. After seeing his fathers advice, he learns that it could be years before he finds her but will have to feel every drop of pain she may feel and he won't be able to do anything about it. Four years have passed, and he finds his mate at a accident scene his team arrives to aid. He never imagined that he would find her here in all places. But he will need to tread carefully to not scare her away especially knowing how she views men. Adele doesn't know what to make of Dominic even though he makes her feel more safe and content than she has ever felt before. But right when their relationship begins going deeper, they discover a young girl in need of help, a girl that will make them a family unless the villain behind it all destroys them...

Plot and Story Line

This is one of those books I saw at Netgalley, and there was just something about it that drew me in and I knew I WANTED to read it so badly and I am so glad I listen to my instincts about books. And I was so right, this book totally beat my expectations. I love a fun and mysterious shape shifter romance that pulls me right in, and this totally did it for me. What I really found a bit different was seeing how shifters in this world, dream and feel their mates sometimes years before meeting them. The scenes of their dream sharing before they meet are quite priceless. And I know not everyone is a fan of having children put in a romance, but I enjoyed the way that Kelly is put in the story. Now her story is quite heartbreaking but I really loved seeing the way that they love her immediately since she has been through hell all of her life. She has never really known safety or love, and I found it so endearing seeing the way that Dominic and Adele just accept her unconditionally as if she was born to them. The romance that develops between Dominic and Adele is pretty tender and sweet, what I liked most was how even though Dominic keeps a secret from Adele, she doesn't punish him forever or too badly for it. He does have to work for it though in the end.

The Cover

What I like is the way the focus of light is on the cover...adds a certain dimension to it that I just like.

Overall View

Guardian's Heart is a heart wrenching story of sacrifice, healing and love....a romance that will keep you in suspense from beginning to end!!! A PURE DELIGHT!

not so enthousiastic after the reading.
The heroin has french blood in her, and she speaks a french with some mistakes...
I would have prefer less french in it, because I'm french and it's quite boring to read bad french
And to finish with her, she cried too much, quite all the time ! I'm sure she has swelled red eyes all the time.

The guy is okay !

And there is a bad guy and a poor victim too.
If it has been possible I would have given 3.5 stars and not 3 !

This is the first book in the Fire and Snow Series by Khloe Wren. I haven't read anything by the author before, but I am always on the look out for another excellent shifter story. This one in particular intrigued me because of the shifter type - snow leopards. I have always had a fascination with them. They are just incredibly beautiful creatures. Add in the setting of Australia and those lovely accents and I was hooked.

The story opens with an introduction to the male lead Dominic, talking with his brother and then father about the dreams he has been having about his future mate. He has seen her in his dreams since her 21st birthday, a few weeks before and is developing an emotional connection to her. This would be fantastic, except for the fact that she is in emotional pain and it is affecting Dominic. He consults with his father on what he can do to help his future mate. His father suggests joining her in her dreams or bringing her into his.

Meanwhile, several hundred miles away, 21 year old Adele is dealing with her mother's advanced Cancer situation. When she lays her head down on her mother's bed and cries herself into exhaustion, she finds herself dreaming about a snow leopard. She feels a connection to him and before she knows it is telling him all about her mother. Adele names the snow leopard chaton, or kitten. Over the next four years she will come to rely on her Chaton and their emotional connection to get her through her mother's death and struggling at university on her own.

Dominic and Adele will finally meet face to face when she arrives to help at an accident scene, while out applying for paramedic positions in the area. Dominic recognizes her right away, but Adele doesn't trust the draw she feels toward him. Dominic has won her over as Chaton, now he has to win her over as Dominic. But Adele is mistrustful and caution around men, especially men trying to hit on her.

There is also another story coinciding with Dominic and Adele's romance. That of an abusive man and the slave that he has chained up in his house. This isn't the safe and consensual BDSM that we read about, but the sadistic torture and abuse of a human being. This monster has a woman that he keeps chained to the wall that he whips, beats and rapes regularly. The scariest part, she has a child that is trapped in this nightmare right along with her. These parts are very tough to read, but it's not just there for shock value. Their stories are intertwined, interconnected and a vital part of the over all story line. It's just not a pleasant part, so fair warning.

Overall this was an excellent story. The author did a fantastic job of giving us information about the world and history as it was needed in the story, without just doing an "info dump" in the beginning. The characters were unique and mostly quirky with excellent dialogue and vivid imagery. The story went by very quickly. I just couldn't put it down. I don't normally give out 5 star reviews on the first book in a series, but I think this one is worth it. I will be reading the next book as soon as it is released.

Apart from Twilight, I had never read a book with shifters in it. I think Khloe has written a wonderful book dealing with the loss of a loved one, rescue of someone being ill treated and the difficulties of being different.
Choosing a Snow Leopard for the shifting animal is a mark of brilliance. Others stick to the normal wolves or cats, but a snow leopard is different.
I really liked the way the story flowed and how easy it was to read.
Well done and I look forward to reading others from this new Author.

Dominic is a snow leopard shifter searching for the mate he sees in his dreams. Trying to put the pieces of her life back together after the death of her mother, Adele is alone in the world except for the beautiful snow leopard in her dreams. Finding each other may be the easiest thing they do, once they cross paths with the sadistic Cole.

This book has some great twists. I love a story that surprises me with things I never saw coming. I can't wait for the next book in the series to be released.

.. typical reading time 4h12min, book 1/6 in Fire and Snow series, ended on Jan 17 at 9:40pm

I’ve been adding the date and hour as of now cause I have been having some trouble with my phone and sometimes — you know what, not important. What’s important is that when I picked this book I only thought shifter romance and didn’t even read the summary, so, the outrageous violence surrounding this story (torture, rape, etc) really fucking surprised me.

Dominic at the age of twenty-one starts dreaming of his mate. His dad tells him all about it, his brother has his ears pealed for the bees story a là snow leopard style. Dominic spends foursome years visiting her dreams, getting to know her (her dreams, her hurt, her hope, etc) but when an accident suddenly brings these two together, the wait for a mess up slip up of the tongue is expected from the readers, but dude has a strong will, so he ain’t about to scare his future mate.

Other shit happens and a lot of discoveries too. I cannot bring myself to say more, otherwise I feel like I’d been giving too much away, and if you cannot tell, this restraint is making this review somewhat shitty, doesn’t do the book any justice (I really loved it, just struggling to say the necessary bits without giving anything of the plot away, while feeling I’ve done it already).

Okay, I’ll say it: Adele, the mate, isn’t wholly human and she’s gonna find out soon enough after the truth is revealed. There will be a massive plot hole with someone’s family member, so — be aware of that. Bye.

This was an incredible Leopard shifter romance book. This was the first book in the Fire and Snow series and wow what a read this was. I loved the setting of Australia. The characters were very entertaining from beginning to end. I read this in less than 24 hours as I was hooked. This was the first book I've read by Khloe Wren and wow what an author and made me think how she came up with this story line as it was epic.

Guardian's Heart (Fire and Snow Series #1) is a paranormal romance and it is a unique shifter story and I soon found myself engrossed in it. It is extremely emotional and the story may shock some readers as there is abuse and violence that will definitely turn your stomach but it is well written and I fell in love with the characters and their strength.

Dominic finally starts seeing his mate in his dreams and soon realises she is in pain and wants to help her but until his dreams leads him to her he can’t. Fate has other ideas and he soon finds her in the most unlikely place.

Adele has met the man of her dreams but he is more than she bargained for, finding out that he is a shifter is a little shocking but what she finds out about herself completely throws her.

Very well written and enjoyable. The main character were flushed out and unique, with flaws and strengths. The second main character (the guy) was a bit more simple BUT still entertaining and easy to connect to his internal dialogue.

Snow Leopards are the only supes.. in the world (i’m like 98% sure lol) and there is a reason and explanation about how that came to be.

This is half a love story between two people, and half a story about a little girl trapped with a monster. Then, in the middle of the book, both stories come together and the characters interact. The vivid emotions and clear detail made the book very mentally visual and entertaining. It has an obvious build up to the conflict (monster man vs little kelly and FMC not being told the whole truth by male MC). I apologize, I don’t recall their names. Nevertheless, when the build up crashes into the conflict it is page gripping (lol?) and unique.

Enjoyable

This was easy reading and a nice touch with the snow leopards and their history. The addition of the ‘bad guy’ certainly gave an extra unexpected dimension to the plot. It did however lack an edge to the romance, and depth was also missing at times in the characters behaviours although in saying that they were very likeable and overall the book enjoyable.

Good story

This was an interesting story, although it was a little confusing at first. It took awhile to figure out that the story about Kelly was not put in the book by mistake. It ended well.

Geez I knew disaster was coming once the predator realized his pet had escaped. I wish Dominic's mate's shifter DNA had kicked in earlier, then things would have gone differently. I'm ready to see what danger lies ahead for Connor and his mate.

I loved the rerelease of Guardian's Heart by Khloe Wren, the first book of her Fire and Snow series. Dominic White is a man who shifts into a snow leopard. When his mate turns 21 he starts to dream about her. As more time passes and he does not find his mate the dreams become more detailed, in order to find them. Adele Petit dealing with a loss of her own, finishes her nursing degree and moves away from home. She ends up in Rosebery where Dominic quickly finds her. He must court her, eventually win her trust and reveal he's a shifter. A tall order when a young girl, Kelly, stumbles into their life severally injured and beaten. Now besides winning his mate, Dominic and Adele feel protective over Kelly, and want to remove the danger from Kelly's live and make her feel protected and loved.

The story had you on edge of what to expect next. Putting down the book to drive home was aggregating since I do not have the audio version. I immediately felt Adele’s pain, her sorrow of her loss. Her internal battle with herself, believing she doesn't need a man, but her undeniable pull to Dominic. I could feel the turmoil that Dominic was facing being near his wait, but having to be patient, The conflict brings you further into the book and has you on the edge impatient to know what will happen next. The shifters have a complex carefully thought out characterization, and history. Although, I have never visited Australia, I found myself looking up the places in Australia and feeling like I was there while reading. Khloe was also thoughtful enough to add terms used in the book, providing definitions and explanations, making it easier for this American. The book is well paced, well written and like any great author leaves you wanting more! I honestly can't wait for the next book in the Fire and Snow series, Noble Guardian. Khloe Wren did not disappoint me with this book in the slightest. I have read another of her series, but this series will be replacing it as my favorite of Khloe’s without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you Khloe for bringing the world of Fire and Snow to us. I can't wait to return.

In an already crowded field of paranormal books Khloe Wren has joined in with this steamy read that lays the groundwork for a series that has set itself apart through some unique aspects. Her Guardian Angel deals with snow leopard shifters who've been in existence for centuries and focuses on a shifter family of firefighters in Tasmania. Setting the story in Tasmania lends a bit of exoticness to an already exotic theme. Along with a burgeoning romance comes an out of left field secondary story dealing with a psychopath that is ultimately the catalyst in cementing the main couple's HEA.

Ever since she was born it was always just Adele and her mom against the world. Being ignored by her birth father has turned her off men and made her very untrusting of what any man says. She never felt alone though as her mother was always there for her. When cancer finally claimed her mother's life it sent her into a deep sadness with the only thing keeping her sane the dreams of a snow leopard who comforts her with its closeness. In these dreams she pours out her soul and is given the strength to move on. She starts completely over as part of the firefighter's team in the small town of Rosebery.

Dominic is part of a long line of firefighters as his father and brothers are all part of the force. He's been haunted by feelings of sadness and after talking with his father he discovers that it's the beginning of his journey towards finding his mate. Once their kind turns 21 their mind, heart, and soul start dreaming of their mate with the images getting stronger and more specific as the years progress so they can find them. For four years he comforts Adele through dreams waiting for the day he can comfort her as a man. He knows she's wary of men so he tries to move slowly in forming a relationship with her. The way he talks to her though shows a man obsessed with his woman as he constantly calls her beautiful and sexy....so much so that it was used in place of her name oftentimes. He knows he needs to tell her the truth about himself but he's scared she'll turn him away. Starting a sexual relationship is daunting enough as they're both virgins which is apparent as Adele seems frightened at first by many of the deeds they do. Ultimately she shows her wild side which leads to many erotically charged sexual interludes. It's not until a life or death situation that he's forced into revealing the truth about himself and everyone discovers an even more shocking truth about Adele that has a big impact on them and future stories.

Dominic is over-the-top romantic in both words and deeds, almost too much at times. Adele is a likable and caring person who hates to see others in pain. I wish she'd been a bit more badass though, especially in dealing with the psychopath. She spent way too much time crying. The parts of the story dealing with the psychopath and his brutalization of women felt very out of place. It felt like a completely different story. It's only purpose seemed to be to bring the hero and heroine together completely and introduce us to a young girl who I sense is going to be someone's mate eventually. The history of these shifters and their hierarchy is intriguing and is what sets it apart from other shifter stories. Finding their mates through dreams forms a bond slowly and makes for a more romantic premise as their true love is just out of reach. Their plans to find other missing shifters opens up the possibility for many more stories, especially as Dominic has many sexy brothers still looking for their own mates along with some intriguing friends who grabbed my attention. This was a fast-paced story with numerous sexy scenes alongside some truly vile and bloody scenes courtesy of the psychopath. I enjoyed the story, small issues and all, and definitely plan on reading the next book in the series as it appears that the heroine is in a wheelchair and in need of rescuing by Dominic's brother Conner who's super sexy too.

3.5 STARS!

okay, really quickly, the plot:

Girl meets boy. Boy and his fam and friends are all snow leopard shifters ( as a cat person, I totally dig this) unbeknownst to the girl. Boy knows girl is his mate and has been, literally, dreaming of her for years. So again they meet. Boy does everything he can to win girl. Girl is wary because she lost her mom (as a mom person -as in I love mine- i did not dig this) and is scared of losing someone else she cares about. Boy works hard to convince her, it's worth taking a chance. Add in an unnecessary suspense sub-plot featuring unbalanced bad guy - and another featuring the guru of shifters ( not a fan of this word choice, couldn't he have just been intro'd as their leader? ) and there you've got, the gist of Her Guardian Angel.

Now then,

what an awesome amazing setting! Freaking Tasmania! How cool is that (says the chick who's never been overseas)!

As for the rest of the book....so I've got mixed feelings...On one level, the realtionship b/w the H and h was super super sweet. So sweet it's almost dull, but sweet none the less.

On the other hand, so much doesn't make sense... And so much else contradicts itself...

Like the hero's a cat shifter, yes? So wouldn't that make it hard for someone to sneak up on him? I mean at the very least shouldn't he be able to scent someone before they can surprise him? Except that's what did happen, and I couldn't figure out how the hell it happened...

And why would the hero leave his heroine (who may be in danger) all by her lonesome in order to set up a protection detail instead of just using his freaking cell phone? I mean, at the very freaking least, he could call someone to keep an eye out while he takes care of business? how hard is that? It seems so obvious, that it calls the H's intelligence into question, that he didn't think of it.

Also the suspense side plot is resolved too easily and way too early! There's a whole other side plot that comes out after it's resolved and it made me drop my rating a half star...I feel like the end of the book is the wrong place for an info dump...especially a confusing one. The info about the shifter 'verse could have (and IMO should have) been worked into the rest of the story. Really the entire plot line featuring should have been part of the overall story, rather than tacking it on the end... By then I was just waiting for the book to be over so I could move on to something else.

okay, now maybe this is just me, that was bugged by this, but at one point the h and a child are both in need of rescue...For some reason the h is rescued first...and given precedence over the kid...IMO, it should have been the traumatized child that received aid first. Or simultaneously with the heroine, rather than having her treated like an after thought.

so... i did have a few other issues, but I'm really just ready to move on, so I'll just say 2.5 stars. KW has promise, but this one just wasn't for me.

*I voluntarily read a free Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one else's*

Wow, this was an amazing book from start to finish and I absolutely loved it. This is the first book I've read by Khloe and she didn't disappoint, in fact I'm adding her to my favourite author list.

Dominic is a Snow Leopard shifter and since his mate turned 21 yrs old, he constantly dreams about her. He doesn't know how to find her and her pain is becoming his own. His dad advised him to dream bond with his mate but will it be enough? Four years have past since his dreams started and now his wait is finally coming to an end: but will his mate want him?

A accident catches Adele's attention and she stops to help but when she meets Dominic, a firefighter, her heart starts beating frantically. She's drawn to him but she doesn't understand why. Why does his presence affect her?

Kelly's arrival in town brings brings out Adele's and Dominic's protective instincts. Will Kelly's arrival bring unexpected danger?

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The two separate storylines are quite different but they blended together really well.
The dream bonding was unique and i liked how Adele got to bond with Dominic's Snow Leopard. She bonds with his animal before him as a man and that gave their story/connection originality. I loved Dominic: he was sweet, romantic yet sexy and protective. Adele was quite an emotional character with a lot of insecurities: she cries a lot throughout - perhaps a bit too much.

Kelly's terrible ordeal was heart wrenching and her abuser's evil smirks literally sent shivers up my spine. Kelly's story was like a bad nightmare coming to life; it was heartbreaking and her experience bought tears to my eyes. The basement of horror and the awful blood stained collar were horrific, frightening but incredibly realistic. When poor Kelly dragged her broken yet beaten body out of the house - I couldn't help but admire her fighting and surviving spirt.

This was an incredible book to read: it was exciting and had me gripping the edge of my seat. I loved Dominic's Snow Leopard: he was majestic yet cute. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.

I liked this story but I do have to give a warning as well. There are some very disturbing scenes in here, closer to the start. To be honest I had to put the book down and I probably had a good cry, I had to get back into the right headspace to continue reading, I was actually worried about continuing, but pretty much it got better after the scene I stopped at. The reason I'm saying this is because If you have had any history of abuse or rape or torture it may set you off. I know from my own experience that this has happened to me, a particular scene in a book that has set me off and made me relive something terrible, but if I've been forewarned I am usually good. so I'm forewarning you. And If anyone is pissed at me thinking I'm giving a spoiler, I don't care and I am giving you a one finger salute. Your attitude is not my problem.

Did I enjoy this story? Did I like the hero and heroine? Did I hate the bad guy and want to scratch his eyes? YES YES and YES!

I enjoyed that it was in Australia (my backyard) and in one of my favourite places in Australia, Tasmania. the fact that Khloe Wren used snow leopards makes me want to hug her. and the idea of how mates find each other is amazing and I like the start of how their mythology and world works. I also like that they have real jobs, important jobs at that and I have major respect for he Fireys, with all the bushfires we've gone through I tip my hat off to the author for including them as well as her respect and knowledge of them.

Dominic and Adele were very likeable as well as some of the secondary characters, which I'm sure we'll hear more from in later books. The one thing that was kind of sweet and irritating was the

look forward to the next in the books, just have to make sure I read the right extended editions

I found myself engrossed in Guardian's Heart the story was well written and I quickly fell in love with the strength and emotions of the characters. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Adele Petit grew up with just her mother and now her mother is dying of cancer. Adele has worked hard to become a paramedic but the thought of knowing she is losing her mother is tearing her apart.

Dominic starts dreaming of his mate and it is destroying him knowing she is in pain, but not knowing where she is. After advice from his father he reaches out to Adele in her dreams as his snow leopard. Four years later with her graduation complete Adele chooses to make a fresh start and move from Melbourne to Tasmania to look for a job as a paramedic, meanwhile, Dominic has decided that he needs to go and find his mate. So Dominic is totally shock when Adele appears before him at an accident scene in Rosebery. As Dominic tries to break down Adele’s wall and get her to trust him enough to let him in tragedy strikes and Adele and Dominic find a young girl who has been abused. With the girl’s abuser still on the loose Dominic and Adele are determined to keep the child safe. But when the girl’s abuser returns and takes Adele as well, Dominic is desperate to reach them in time. Dominic is a snow leopard shifter. When Adele turned twenty-one he starts to dream about her. Dominic also feels the grief and pain coming from his mate- Adele but he doesn’t know where she is. Adele’s mother is dying from cancer and Adele becomes a paramedic and moves away from home. Four years goes by and finally Dominic finds his mate at an accident scene. But he has to approach Adele carefully as he knows how she feels about men. Adele doesn’t know what to make of Dominic although he makes her feel safe and content. Then Dominic and Adele find a young girl- Kelly- and she had been badly injured from a beating. Then Adele and Dominic want to protect Kelly and make her feel safe and love. Dominic and his brothers work with their father as firefighters . then Kellys' abuser returns and takes Kelly and Adele. Dominic is terrified he won’t find Adele and Kelly in time.
I liked this story when a story is dark and have young girls being beaten. Also there was a lot going on which took some of my enjoyment away. I also went through too many POVs. i liked the part with Dominic and Adele and them finding each other and wanting to protect Kelly.I also liked that Adele moved where Dominic ended up finding her at an accident sight and that he was a firefighter and she was a paramedic. So I was tore on this story. Some things I liked and some I didn’t.

Guardian's Heart

3.5 stars

Dominic and Adele's story was both sweet and suspenseful. I loved the unique background of how the snow leopards came to be and the search for the Lost.

For me personally, the story was choppy at times. It felt like three different books. Dominic and Adele's love story, Kelly's (a young girl they find and help) story of survival, and then Dominic, Adele and Kelly's story. Too much time was spent on what was happening to Kelly and I think it could have been told in flashbacks instead, once they found her.

Dominic was a bit of a contradiction, both innocent and experienced. Adele, she was an emotional train wreck, but she had the biggest heart. I really enjoyed his pursuit of her and how she came out of her shell. She bloomed, he turned into gentle alpha caveman.

A good story, it kept me entertained for the most part. The dream sequences and life mate elements were really lovely.
