The Psalms form a praisebook for God's people, a collection of hymns and petitions to lead us in worship. The variety found in the Psalms reminds us that worship is personal and, that while each worships differently, each should worship. With scripture reading, inspirational readings, questions to answer, space for journaling, and a prayer, it's like studying the Bible with Max Lucado.
With more than 150 million products in print and several NYT bestsellers, Max Lucado is America's bestselling inspirational author. He serves the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Denalyn, and their mischievous mutt, Andy. His most recent book published in August 2024 and is titled What Happens Next.
We used this book in one of my Bible study groups and did one lesson each week. I was disappointed that none of the harder-to-understand psalms were in this book. Most of these were pretty easy to understand. I love Max Lucado's books, but this one was not one of my favorites. This should not be a review of the kindle edition because we used the written book.
A good chunk of this book is just excerpts from Max Lucado’s and other authors’ books, most of which seem like a stretch to relate to the Psalm they’re supposed to be unpacking… The book felt very disjointed and literally pieced together.
did this as a short study with friends. Not really what we were expecting nor wanting. too superficial. ended up doubling up on the lessons after a few weeks.
Last year I read the Bible in a year. But I struggled getting through Psalms. They seemed so redundant, hundreds of them covering the same topics over and over. What could they tell me about my modern life? I bought this book to help me with further study. I enjoy Max Lucado and he helped me read all the Psalms and learn Max’s insights about what the psalmist was writing about, in cases, how it applied to the New Testament and how I can gain value from it today.
Max Lucado is loved by many for his ability to help us understand the Bible and God’s love. He does that in this short Bible study as well. It works as a great guidepost as you venture in to studying the Psalms. It is definitely not a deep dive as each day is only studying one or part of one of the Psalms.
I am in love with this series. He breaks the devotional into easy to digest pieces and directs you to further reading if you are attempting to complete a reading of the entire Psalms during the reading of this book. He provides opportunities to write down reflections and really engage with your own spiritual walk. I highly recommend this book.
Great thought-provoking questions for certain Psalms. I do like the ones Rev. Lucado picked out wish he could have done a little something for each chapter of the Psalm. I would recommend this book to use when studying Psalm.
A light topical resource of the book of Psalms. Not too deep. Not too difficult. Good for beginner Bible studies and for those looking to understand the book of Psalms
