Osho speaks on the relationship between freedom and consciousness, defines his neo-sannyas, and elaborates on the mysteries of initiation and disciplehood. Review from www.sannyas.org: This book is a timeless classic that has long served as an introduction for many people to Osho's vision. Eight discourses to push the reader over the edge of the intellect into the mysterious, the esoteric and the transcendental. Osho talks on the meaning of initiation, disciplehood and meditation - a loving invitation to begin the journey toward the ultimate truth: "A sannyasin to me is a person who decides to live to the utmost, to the optimum, to the maximum; it is just like a flame burning from both the poles." A helpful reader for those new to the world of Osho. Subject Early Talks and Writings Translated from Notes A series of 8 discourses plus an extract of an interview by Ma Anand Pratima Time Period of Osho's original Discourses/Talks/Letters from Apr 1, 1971 to Jun 30, 1971 Number of Discourses/Chapters 9
Wonderfully written and compiled. You get a peek into how great and timeless this man's thoughts were. The clarity i received is so very different and exhilarating than countless other books on spirituality.
An amazing book of unimaginable depth and dimension. When I started on the first page, I was hooked line and sinker with Osho and became his fan, disciple and lover! One thing led to another and I started on Osho meditations and till now continue doing them. A book of exceptional clarity and vision only an enlightened master can provide!
Amazing book for any seeker of Truth, especially for people who are interested to go deep on Osho path. He speaks very clear about new sannyas and master-discipol relationship, about initiation, love, divine grace, ego, sex, theosophy & ezoteric groups. The most impactful for me was the big picture he provide about the essence of different spiritual paths.
AN "EARLY" BOOK OF BHAGWAN'S LECTURES/ANSWERING QUESTIONS
The Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (born Chandra Mohan Jain; 1931-1990; he changed his name to "Osho" shortly before his death) was a controversial Indian spiritual teacher with an international following. His teachings on Tantra and sexuality earned him the name "the sex guru" in the mass media; he moved his ashram from India to Oregon in 1981, where they had substantial conflicts with the local community (including a criminal food contamination attack on Oregon residents ordered by the ashram leaders); he was deported in 1985 [see 'Bhagwan: Twelve Days That Shook the World'], and finally settled in India again, where he died. His teachings continue to be promoted by the Osho International Meditation Resort. His daily lectures were recorded for many years, and turned into books such as 'Book of the Secrets Three,' 'Philosophia Perennis Volume 2,' etc.
Other books about him include 'Dying for Enlightenment: Living with Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh,' 'Bhagwan: The God That Failed,' 'Ultimate Game: The Rise and Fall of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh,' 'The Promise of Paradise,' 'The Quest for Total Bliss,' 'The Golden Guru,' etc.
He said in this 1975 book of lectures (where he answered questions from his followers or "sannyasins"), "Metaphysics can only lead us into absurdity... Always begin with yourself if you are to escape from metaphysics. And if you cannot escape from metaphysics you cannot be religious. Metaphysics and religion are opposite poles. Do not begin with God at all; always begin with your mind. Where you are---always begin from there. If you begin from your mind, then something can be done." (Pg. 78)
He asserts, "Jesus feels responsible for the whole sin of man from Adam up to us... He takes the cross on his shoulders in order that our sins may be pardoned, forgiven. Jesus is in no way responsible. If Adam has done something, if the whole human mind has done something, why should he be responsible? ... He has not committed any sins. Still, he feels responsible because he is awakened. By the very phenomenon of being awakened, he has become responsible for everything that the sleeping ones have done. His burden has grown; his cross is heavy. His crucifixion is symbolic; he dies for us so that we may live... But even with his death we are not transformed... we create churches and dogmas, then we create sects... The whole nonsense continues in many ways, and the world remains the same... It becomes a Sunday affair. For one hour a week we go to him and then we continue in our own way... we feel religious." (Pg. 135-136)
He explains, "Our energy lies in the sex center... we have become so tense about it, that it goes on becoming more and more difficult to help. That is why I have created many new devices and why I talk about different things from many dimensions. for example, I have talked to you about 'from sex to superconsciousness' so much only to relax you. If you can become relaxed at your sex center, if there is no tension, then the energy can be released upward." (Pg. 150-151)
He asserts, "the difficulty always comes when someone dies and there is no one who can replace him. There is a missing link... you cannot be helped by the group because the gaps cannot be filled. There are gaps in Christianity now, many gaps. There are gaps in every teaching. If one part is lost, it cannot be replaced unless a person like Jesus happens again. But that is not predictable; that cannot be arranged; that cannot be planned." (Pg. 172)
